When you have someone like Maradona in the team, magic can happen any moment!! He was a magician with the ball. Incredible assist and brilliant finish by Claudio Caniggia🇦🇷⚽️❤️ one of my fav game ever!!!
I saw this game Live as a kid with my Father while growing up in Football crazy Calcutta! ❤️ Omg When Caniggia scored that goal the way we screamed in JOY! ❤️ My Mother freaked out at us for the way we were celebrating! 🤣😂❤️ Best Game of that entire wc ! ❤️👌 very tough and rough! The atmosphere was just Electrifying ! Beautiful Memories! ❤️ RIP Mummy and Daddy! I MISS YOU EVERYDAY! ❤️🙏❤️ I ❤️ ARGENTINA
That match against Brasil sums up the very essence of Argentina team in Italy 90', Maradona was injured, the squad was designed to sit back and play for the counter attacks...even though they were far from being brilliant they struggled their way into the final where a controversial refereeing decision robbed their chances to survive until the penalty kicks ... Rudi Völler had clearly dived, even the most blind and die hard German fans could agree on that
The main problem during the final is Argentina didn't even try to score a goal. Their only tactic was to hold the 0-0 and wait until the PK because of Goycoechea.
It was one of the most awful finals in WC history. But Argentina shouldn't have been anywhere near that final. Maradona denied the Soviets a clear goal by punching the ball off the goal line with his hand.
We were seriously out played. But we had steel in our balls…. At the end of the day, Maradona’s drive and the finish from Cannigia was the difference. Vamos Argentina 🇦🇷!!!
As we all seen that match live ( still remember & discuss after 32 yrs - do we think any of the modern day match ( after 2006) will be remembered & discuss in 2040?? This is the greatness of those players ( Maradona, Zico,Platani, Zidane, Robarto Carlos & list continues
I watched the 1990 World Cup , this game was amazing. Brazil was all over Argentina but simply could not finish. Argentina reached the final playing with grit, the only game they played well was the Semifinal against Italy. And of course the final was already decided against them
Great comment!! Yes their best game was against Italy in Napoli for semifinal. And you're also right about the final decided against them. Diego played this world cup with an injured ankle also
Though i love the Albiceleste but that that final game vs Germany in 1990 WE played poorly,,,,but in 2022 u will be Witness to our Triumph in Qatar ,,,vamos Argentina
@@eddiewtong213 oh little boy. Not sure if you watched the game. Caniggia was given a second yellow card in the semifinal for a foul that was dime a dozen ruling him out of the final. Argentina missed four starters for the final game. Referee was a Mexican guy named Codesal in the Final. FIFA’s chairman was Joao Havalange , he made sure that Brazil’s 3 world cups at that point won’t be threatened by Argentina. Minor fouls decisions all went against Argentina , even the penalty wasn’t a penalty. Not saying Argentina played very well but neither did West Germany. it was a bad final game in which Argentina eventually lost temper and head because of poor referring and ended up with 9 players .
@@A_DRcontra quien amigo?
To be fair, its not exactly underrated. Its probably the most popular assist-goal for most Argentines. Caniggia won Copa America in 1991 scoring 2 goals + assisted 4 , yet football fans around the world only knows him from his goal against Brazil & Italy.
Wow, feels like a few lifetimes ago. Remember this well coming home from school and watching this whole match. I was delighted for Maradona as I thought there were shades of him being back to his best and his double-act with Cannigia who back then was top.
What are you talking about? Their attack in 1994 was absolutely magnificent with Romario (best goalscorer of the tournament alongside Stoichkov and Salenko) and Bebeto in the front. A legendary team that dominated every game.
@Alex the 1994 team had deadly finishers. That was what was missing from this game. If Romario was playing in this game, it would have been done with. This team was a bit of Brazil nowadays, with nobody to put the ball in the net. And whever said that the goals in 94 against the Dutch were offside: cmon man. The first goal Romario is behind the ball, how can he be offside? The second goal was the passive rule that FIFA implemented in 94 and is still a rule today: Romario was coming back and was passive. Bebeto was clearly onside. If the Dutch did not know the rule yet, it was not the fault of Brazilians.
Absolutely correct. Though the 1994 team was far better than that of 1990, the ghost of the past still hunted them seriously, especially 1982. Brazil played too cautiously in 1994 despite having the Best team in the competition; they did not want to go through the eternal agonizing experience of returning Home empty-handed again despite being the clear Favourites. Moreover, the Europeans had taught them bitter lessons over the Years with their CATENACIO (negative Footballing tactics). And then the message became very clear ,IF YOU CAN'T BEAT THEM, YOU JOIN THEM. And then Brazil adopted the CATENACIO themselves. Guess NICCOLO MACHIAVELLI was right all long.
how beautifull these times looks now, even the legendary Delle Alpi iconic and great looking stadium its a shame it was demolished after only 16 years of use
I mean, it looked nice here because it was literally brand new but that stadium was garbage. Awful sightlines with a running track, Juve would barely fill half of it despite being one of the best sides in the world.
@@calvinbaII That's true, though as a regular viewer of Italian football in TV in the 90s I know that low attendances were a problem in many Serie A stadia. I don't know if that was just in the revamped ones, it could have been. Certainly I think it's fair to say that as spectacular those famous edifices were to look at, they weren't ideal as football stadia. The infamous San Siro looks like no other but had a terrible effect on the quality of the grass, shading it so much that it was in appalling condition for much of the year (and often still is as far as I'm aware), wholly unsuited to being the home ground of AC Milan, probably the best team in the world for much of the early 90s. I've seen photos of the stadium before it got upgraded and it was an attractive, open roofed ground with an already considerable two tiers, it's really a shame it was altered.
Epic clash between the two South American powerhouses, it's astonishing that 32 years later and we still haven't seen them play each other again in a World Cup since this battle. Really hoping they will meet in 2022!
@@marijanurli1837 I suppose it's not meant to be. This will be the third time I've seen Argentina and Croatia. 1-0 Argentina in 98 and 3-0 Croatia in 2018.
I was 10 years old back then, it's the first time ever to hear the sound of a ball hitting the wood when Alemão shot that ball. He was a great player , one of the most underrated in football history.

I see it again and still can't believe that goal on the 80th minute! If you add to that the long-standing rivalry between both teams, the fact that both of them were the reference of good football by then, Brazil with 3 cups and Argentina with 2, and the first half in which Argentina almost didn't saw the ball. When you see the whole picture in a video like this, I was still afraid Caniggia would miss that goal...
I watched this game being at a neighbors boy anniversary. Everybody was supporting Brasil I was with the Argentinian side. They were all screaming and shouting at every Brasilian miss and against Argentina, I was just hoping Argentina would some how win. And you cannot even imagine my feelings when Maradona and Caniggia just found a way in the end to score. It was like a punch in the mouths of all the others. I did not even dare to jubilate. They were all just silenced in disbelief. All the shouting and screaming was just...gone. When I went home a while later after the match ended, I was happy just for that. 😄
Bebeto would not miss this chance, he was the best striker at the time, he had been top scorer in the '89 Brazilian championship. But for coach Lazaroni, Bebeto could only play together with Romario who was injured. Unacceptable.
@@iganpparamarta8813 Higuain scored plenty of goals. I wonder if he will be remembered more for the very few chances he missed than for the ones he concreticized.
I always remember this game because Brazil hit the wood work about 10 times. Then they got caught at the end by a bit of Maradona magic and a nice finish,
Our (brazilian) coach is the worst we've had in the history of world cups...a lot of mistakes, Romário was injured, but Bebeto was playing very well, a thousand times better than Müller...not to mention other mistakes in the defense. Anyway, Maradona was a genius and made that amazing move. PS - Caniggia was not offside, his first goal was valid. (1min).
Tiempo no fué off side. I was only 8 years old at the time this world cup was being played, can remember a couple of games but I have no recollection whatsoever of this game which is strange because I mean arguably the two best teams in the world facing off against each other in the world cup and obviously the rivalry between the two countries is huge!

This game shows how with an injured ankle, amid numerous mercurial tackles a 30 year old battered Maradona rose to the biggest occasion! It's just not the 86'WC that he single handedly won or the goal of the century against England or the marvelous solo goals in the semis vs Belgium or that brilliant pass to Burrzaga in the final amid 3 Germans surrounding him after Germany had equalized 2-2, It's that quality of Maradona that in the biggest knockout matches in the biggest stage of them all, the WC against the toughest opponents he shone almost everytime that elevate him above Messi! Yes Messi is more consistent through a long career with all the sports science and technology and grooming at barca. But how many chances did he miss upto 2022 WC? From how many opportunities did he finally make it? You measure the best footballer not by counting the number of goals he scored but by how many WC knockout games against toughest opponents he won!

In those days, every opposite player had the order to foul Maradona at every levels. As a matter of fact, an Atletic of Bilbao player broke his fibula bone (of leg) when Maradona played in Barcelona. Then, when he was in the Italian league, a player cracked the lower end of his tibia (ankle), so he played in the 1990 Italian World Cup in this medical condition.
