Our beautiful Porto Alegre has been devastated by a flood. A lot of places showed in this video are now underwater, like Mercado Público and Garcias 😢 it’s a bittersweet feeling seeing things the way it was before the flood. Our hearts and prayers are with the gauchos to get our cities back to normal.
You guys, I've been living in the US for 30 years, and seeing you guys explore my city of Porto Alegre brought tears to my eyes. I hope you enjoyed my birthplace and hope you were treated well. Thank you for all of your videos showing how diverse and immense Brazil is. I'm a fan of both of you. Keep up the good work 👍
Brazil is rich in landscapes, culture and history that few people in the world know. Several countries within the same territory. But with the same Brazilian spirit. Brazilians preach love and freedom. The best of Brazil are the Brazilians
Oh yes, I loved it and I like Brazil. I've visited it twice but still need to see and experience much more. The Brazilians 😍. We stayed with a Brazilian family, which was special in Rio.
My city was severed affected by flood and to see how beautiful it used to be brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for being here and to show how amazing my city is. Be always welcome and invited to come back.
I feel honored that you are visiting my state. Hope you like it! If you were in Gramado/Canela (or another cities of Serra Gaúcha region) in winter, you would get temperatures below zero, with a chance of snow. This isn't something new for North Americans, but I think most people don't expect to see this in Brasil. But it can be hot too, our summers are very hot, as in the rest of Brasil (as our climate is temperate, we have everything throughout the year). Good stay, enjoy!
Nothing compares to the gaucho barbecue. It's impossible to be unhappy while eating barbecue. I humbly recommend that you go to Canela and Gramado, two tourist cities that are very popular in winter.
I don’t eat meat anymore, but OMG when I did, the churrascos were awesome! We didn’t get to Porto, went to Parana state, Foz do Iguazu, and Argentina. Wonderful video!
Porto Alegre is by far my favorite area of Brazil. Just got back from doing a week there for work. Now back in the states but the tech industry there, I really enjoyed.
I loved this video. A curiosity about the mercado publico, at its center there is an amulet placed on the ground by one of of the workers who build this building. He had African ancestors, and the amulet is linked to african religions that still exist and are practiced today in Rio Grande do Sul. Some times you can see people dropping some coins near the amulet, it brings you good luck 😊 The buggest difference between a cowboy and a gaucho is the indigenous heritage of gauchos.
Guys, you MUST visit Ouro Preto (black gold) city in Minas Gerais state. it was the largest city in the Americas in the 17th century with 200k people. today it is the same with dozens of barroque churchs literally covered in gold
Yes, very rich history...entire city built by the blood of black and indigenous people. I think the streams were full of gold... We wanted to come and tell the story of Chico Rei. Maybe next time around.
You must be so relieved to be in a cooler place. I couldn’t handle the heat - I almost melted watching your last few cities. 🥵 Love the Gaucho clips! I did a fourth grade school report on the Gauchos of Argentina - great memories pouring over the Encyclopedia Brittanica for hours & hours! Yummiest BBQ, 😋, Rondel cracked me up “keeping it respectable!” The way you bit into that slow-roasted piece of meat - I’m so hungry now. 😳 The walk after was lovely - interesting about insulin levels - I need to start walking after meals. Apryl is looking glow-y from “chasing the Brazilian summer” (I’d be burnt to a crisp) and very pretty in braids. 🙌🏾 I’m enjoying Brazil through you two - thank you for the adventure - cause I’ll probably never go. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes, we were very happy to make it to a cooler destination and we're glad you're traveling w/ us! The south is a cooler climate during the winter months and a more reserved laid back people. It's been interesting witnessing the change in temperaments and temperatures.

If you go to the mouth of the Iguaçu (Foz do Iguaçu)be sure to take the tour of the Iguaçu Falls and there is the triple border where you can see shows of Argentines, Brazilians and Paraguayans interacting Russians cross the ocean just for this visit, it is magical and even have the option to fly over the site by helicopter in addition to seeing the birds and animals up close in their natural habitat
I’m from Porto Alegre and I’ve been in the US for 30 years. Thanks for your video! I was there with my kid last year and went to some of the same places you guys went to. Brought back memories.
You guys needs to go to Gramado, here in my state Rio Grande do Sul!! is called the Switzerland of Brazil! The landscape and architecture really reminds the country! The prices are not cheap, but I think it's worth it!
You have to drink chimarrão tea, the gaucho beverage from the guarani people. And eat a "X coração", our very only take on cheeseburguer with chicken hearts instead of ground beef. If you dig properly you going to find out a strong african community struglling to keep their roots alive. Seek the Batucada, a variant of Candomble. Visit aparados da serra, our grand cannyon.
Excellent video! You were accurate in your comment at the end of the video about the coldness of Porto Alegre residents. That's right! It's the first time I've seen someone comment, because it's impossible not to notice. But no one talks about it, as it looks nothing like the rest of Brazil. But it has always been like this with those who come from outside and among residents who do not know each other... You are a good psychologist. I live here in Porto Alegre my whole life
This is where Rafi Bastos was born. He is a famous comedian in Brazil, and now he is in the USA doing Stand Up Comedy in english. He also was in Joe Rogan's Podcast
Finally a gringo talking about my state!!! Thank you bro!!! I suggest visiting the cities of Gramado/Canela, if you want to enjoy a beach Capão da Canoa and Praia de Torres, and you can also come to the far south take a look and take a bus to Uruguay! My city is Pelotas, please let me know if you are around! Is 3,5 hours from Porto Alegre
Rio Grande do Sul é completamente diferente do resto do Brazil. One of the reasons that I left Porto Alegre was the cold 🥶. I remember Porto Agre being with a lot of history, tradition, food and proud. I am in NJ and took me 36 years to became American. It’s the proud of being Gaúcha that didn’t let me not being Gaúcha.
Thanks folks for documented this before the tragedy that vanished a good portion of what was presented in this video. I really hope that we can restore that back to original shape.😢
Wowww, you two had a culinary extravaganza!! Rondel got hurtin put on him at Garcia’s. 😆😂😂 Loved this town. Especially loved your editing & name page. ❤
I'm so glad you are visiting the south! Please make sure to visit Parana, my beautiful state! You will love it! Love your channel, I'm from Curitiba, leaving in Tennessee for 30 years!!
Living in Tennessee it bet you that was an interesting adjustment. We are visiting as many states as our budget and time allows lol. Thanks for keeping up with us! We appreciate you and your beautiful motherland!
So happy to see South of Brazil being shown. I grow up in Rio Grande do Sul, lived in Santa Catarina a couple of years, there so many beautiful places, and of course churrasco is the best barbecue in the world 😂😂..I miss the weather, the change of the seasons as I live in UK for about a decade..miss a proper summer ⛱️❤Thank you guys xx
I loved to see Porto Alegre through your eyes! I’m a ‘gaúcha’ living in the US for almost 30 years 😊 The only thing missing, and I hope you had the opportunity to see a little, is our folklore, gaucho music, dances and traditions. It’s what I miss the most ❤
I am leaving Porto Alegre tomorrow and felt the city was fine for a short stay because there is so many things to do. I did like the city but I can't see myself living here. It also got really cold on my last few days which I am not a fan of LoL. Very cool that Azorean families came here because my father was born in the Azores. Keep up the good work guys.
I’m so glad you enjoyed my birthplace and hometown Porto Alegre! Watching your journey here in Rio Grande do Sul made me emotional! Oh, and about Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, it was actually a hotel (called Hotel Majestic) where Quintana lived for many years. So that’s why I think it’s majestic :) Get back soon! 😄
I'm here from Rio de Janeiro, since you're in Rio Grande do Sul, don't forget to visit the beautiful cities that are out there, such as the city of Gramado and the city of Canela.
I used to go to a Brazilian steakhouse in Chicago called Fogo de Chao; about $60 per person. And I'm sure their meat is sourced a LOT healthier. Love the old footage of the gauchos! Brazil is HUGE! I hope you guys have Uruguay on your itinerary?
All I know is I hurt myself in that churrascaria OMG! We are planning on going to Uruguay buy our flights out are astronomical right now.... we're working in it and will keep you posted!
Hope you guys felt welcomed in my home city of Porto Alegre. I currently reside in NYC and I feel very welcomed by the people here in the US wherever I go. I feel that people in Porto Alegre are not that open for occasional chats and are more introverted. Enjoy Brazil🎉
Thanks for the share, I agree you do not need more ssace when you are just there for a short while. Dare I say April has this "happy girl" inner smile? Really enjoyed the video like always. Yes I see myself enjoying the Berbercue(what do they call it there)Roast beer roasted directly in open fire, is like nothign else, I do say you have to try it to know how good it is. thanks for the share guys
Yea, that airbnb was just enough. That fire roasted bbq is the best - hands down. It's called Churrasco and we're already on the hunt for the next one. Thanks for watching, Rika, and thanks for your comments!
Thank you fort he tips in Porto Alegre. I've been there long time ago. Must come back. The Maria Quintana Cultural space seems amazing. If you guys still around don't forget to tray the Queijo da Colonia and strawberry jam at Mercado Municipal. It is delicious! 👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉🇧🇷👍
Thanks for visiting my city. But you don’t need to miss Churrascaria, there is one or two in Manhattan and you can find a lot in Newark, NJ. But I really recommend at 45th and 5th a place called Imporio. Love that place. Expensive……
Hello friends welcome to rio grande do sul and thank you for being with us, before you leave try "Quentao and Pinhão", we are coming to the June festival. If you see some noisy birds in the fields, feel blessed, they are the birds that greet visitors and if you see caramel-colored dogs in the streets, you may not know it, but you will be in front of Brazil's greatest heritage, the beloved caramel dog. and don't forget to try the chimarao and guarana. Feel hugged with affection and welcome again.🧉
U need go to GRAMADO... in the winter almost the unique place in brazil if have SNOW...And for sure rio grande, is the best Barbecue in Brazil... I'm from PARANÁ, but all my family come from Rio grande do Sul to live here in paraná years ago... And DALE GRÊMIO!!!
Are you guys going to Gramado Ane Canela? Oh, could be nice watch some videos from you in my town (Brasília, the capital of 🇧🇷). It’s so nice watch you guys discovering and enjoying my country :)
Hi guys! Please tell me, if you can, if you had problems regarding communication in restaurants, streets, etc. I'm curious about that because I know it's not easy to find people that are able to talk in English. I hope you enjoyed Porto Alegre and our people. Thank you
Interesting historical remark: The state of Rio Grande do Sul seceded from Brazil during a revolution that lasted from 1836 to 1845, during that time they abolished slavery in the New country( 43 years ahead). Unfortunately for them they were defeated by Imperial forces in 1845.
@@TheYarbrosauchos are most definitely the Texans of Brazil! 😂 Im married to one and started noticing many things: he is prouder of his state flag than the national one, loves rural country culture, country music (musica gaúcha) and of course steak, and always talks about separating from the country. 😂
