They should have had more respect for Croatia and faced them with do-or-die mentality. This is something the coach should have done to the squad as well. It just sucks because this Brazil team had such an exciting dynamic.
They checked out mentally after their goal. You’re facing the FINALISTS of the last tournament. They’ve been here before, you haven’t, that’s what happens when you don’t respect that fact
Yes I don't know why they don't do it it would take pressure off the others a little bit they at least have two good penalty taker let one take the 5th one and one the first
Penalty shootouts have 1 rule : your best pen taker always goes first to set the tone. Your 2nd best pen taker goes last or sooner depending on the streak you're on
@@Abdullah-vg1uc Considering they practise pens in training, I’d assume the first five for every team would at least be decent. But things can go south quickly and usually the most successful penalty shootout for teams occur when the best player takes the first one. Compare Argentina the day later vs the Netherlands when Messi went up first to the 2017 confederation cup Portugal Chile tie when Ronaldo didn’t.
Not necessarily. I would probably put my best penalty taker at the third penalty since if you've missed either or both of the first two than that is a must score.
Not a good comparative, Brazil suffered a hard hit, Croatia did what they do in every World Cup. When you concede a goal with less than 4 minutes to the end of the match the mental goes through the window.
The selecao of 2002 had Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos and Ronaldinho. They had the killer instinct and were bent on winning the trophy. They did. This team is all about the spectacle. I expected them to fail and they did.
Brazil team didn't like to be put under pressure during the game, so when the players had the advantage they finally thought they would take the match to their control and then stop playing defensively. That was clear to me as a Brazilian.
NO. This Brazil 's defence is one of the very best I have EVER seen and a brilliant goal keeper, so they can handle pressure. The thing was that Croatia are a very good side and highly disciplined and organised, so it needed Brazil to increase the tempo and take their chances. They increased the tempo in second half but did not take their chances
it was close to 120 th minute. 2 hours intense football. Neymar was exhausted. Coach Tite needs to take him off. Instead of Pedro who were running for 50 minutes doing nothing play Martenelli more intelligent, skill and fast player. Instead of headless Fred who gave up his position play Fabinho, Bruno Gamuries. Put some defensive midfielder fill up the gape no space to run for opponents. it is almost 2 hrs everyone is tired so why take risk.
@@nohandler1493 you couldn’t take Neymar off in case it went to pens or created another magical moment (even though he never got to take a spot kick and was rather invisible before the goal)
Because Tite is stupid. Thats why. Nobody is saying It. He lost us the game. Fred? not Fabinho? For real? The way Fabinho would have controlled that game and maybe take a yellow card there at the end to stop the play. Casemiro and Danilo could not do that because they had one yellow card each. Martinelli was much better than Rodrygo and Antony this WC and he played 0 minutes that match. Also leave Vini there. He is physical and talented and was our best player this WC. A injured Alex Sandro entered because Militão was tired (the only one who did not rest in the third game) and that cost us the game. Gabriel Magalhães should be called up instead Dani alves since Tite clearly did not Trust him.
@@FredEPLk Bringing down vini jr and putting on fred was huge mistake. If brazil had won from neymars goal,i would say they eere very lucky.Because fred has been mediocre. He ran for the ball despitr two agressive croatian midfielder and defender following him.He could have passed it to neymar and then neymar would pass on defense. But he ran for the ball to score the goal by himself when it was absolutely not necessary. And tite could have benched casimero when he got yellow card. And another big mistake is neymar and paqueta chosen to ran to assist fred while casimero was alone covered by modric and other strikers.Neymar and paqueta could have stayed in midfield then it would never happen.
One of the things that make Brazil, Brazil is that they have to do it in their style. Their way. Most times they end up flying too close to the sun and getting burnt. But when they don't it is the most stylish football ever to be seen. Ref. Carlos Alberto goal 1970 final vs Italy.
as a brazillian, even though it hurts to get kicked out like that, we gotta praise croatia for never giving up, but also, we gotta remember, THIS IS FOOTBALL. having the "better players" will not garantee victory, this isnt basketball or baseball. this is what makes the sport the most popular sport in the world. being superior on paper will only carry you so far. and time and again we are reminded of that.
I mean Croatia got world class players too. Champions league winners. Best Midfield FOR SURE. They controlled the match for a LONG time. But he’s Brazil should have been more disciplined
Brazil has excellent players, but no team, no leader on the field, no team spirit of willingness to sacrifice. Video of what Neymar is doing during the action for Petović's goal, nothing, he walks slowly on the field. I recently had an exchange of opinions with an Argentinian fan. He says that the Argentinian team is ready to sacrifice it for Messi, but Modrić is ready to sacrifice himself for the team, at the age of 37 to sprint in defense and enter defensive duels, that's the "small" difference.
mate 33 year old tired asf perisic was sprinting down the field when orsic had the ball from the other side of the pitch and you see brazil's midfield and attackers slowly jogging back. that alone should tell you everything you need to know lmao.
As a big Brazilian fan, I never saw them as contenders.. They are skillful yes, but not mentally great at defense. First they scored and celebrated like they won.. and then they had 5 mins of defense to do.. and even when Croatia went on final attack, the Brazilian forwards were still walking and not running to track back and defend the final Croatia attack. they deserve to loose.
I watch ESPN all the time and the presenter is the best....how he makes jokes... 🔝🔝 greetings from Croatia.. actually from Germany but from Croat 🤣🤣🇭🇷🥇🏆⚽💪🔥💖🙏✝️

LOL you said that quite well. No longer teacher's pets, the curriculum gets hard and there's nobody to hold their hand, so they throw a temper tantrum. Just the start of the video Neymar saying he was paralyzed for 10 minutes, dude grow up, put your big boy boxers and get better.

Brazil seemed to assume Neymar's goal had already sent them through. While getting over the hurdle of winning a trophy is extremely difficult, a long pedigree of winning them can eventually lead to a complacency that Germany appear to also be suffering from.
Argentina didn't have good game management either . They got lucky in the penalties. This could easily be two south American teams out because of poor judgement in the last ten minutes. What this guy said about the penalties is so far fetched. If he takes the fourth whose available for the fifth? If he scores early it takes some of the pressure off and maybe that fifth pen goes in easier? It's psychological. Standing there watching miss after miss must be so hard.
Argentina got screwed by being forced to play extra 15 minutes of football with regulation time with 2 of their best defenders being forced to sub our bc of the booking with Romero on Netherlands don't score a single goal, and the saves Emi made were absolutely amazing all well shot powerful kicks, anyone who thinks "Argentina got lucky" is a complete idiot.
@@blooopzz the better team doesn’t always win, look at england who were way better than us french and they still lost it because when we have a chance to score in front of goal it goes inside, we are just ruthless and solid mentally. All other teams especially south americans are fragile and weak in their head, that’s why they won’t win any WC any time soon.
The psychology is against the goal keeper, imagine scored all first 3 again the same keeper, it’ll definitely makes him question himself and panicked during 4th and 5th try. It’s as simple as that… Everyone who plays sports knows about the momentum the key moment that changes team momentum for the better.
@@jibangkurbaishya221 that’s their problem. They think by having won 5 WC makes them the best and entitled to win it everytime they step into a match. Over confidence and underestimating opponents are their downfall and that’s already hard for them to admit it and they need to do some reflection on themselves to realize it. It’s great that their curriculum is impressive but that was a while ago now. What matters is the present and the future. De paul is better? Lol. I think croatia have more heart and gut to win this match since argentina will be playing with so much pressure to win a WC for messi. We all saw what happened back in 2014. And it’s messi’s last chance to win it so even more pressure and more chances for em to lose their sh*t.
Strange that some people say Brazil got punished for naivety or being risky (shouldnt have been so high up the pitch before goal by Croatia). I see it as Brazil got punished for trying to kill the game - that is why they were in Croatia's half, trying to keep the ball and take it to corner flag. After 1-0 Brazil didn't try to score another goal and to close the lid. They became passive and played too much according to the result. It was too early to do so they got punished for it. And there is no guarantee that you dont concede goal if you stay in your half defending deep. It's also risky. Ideally, you have to keep opponent away from your goal. Thats why you move your line and press opponent.
They were naive!! you defend and press at that stage …everyone on the team 3 walls of 4 and 2 chasing the ball!!… it’s Croatia you know they gonna go to the whistle!!
Neymar couldn't win World Cup, but his International Achievements is far ahead of most World Cup Legends. Neymar - 77 Goals + 56 Assists - 124 Games Pele - 77 Goals + 53 Assists - 92 Games Ronaldo - 62 Goals + 34 Assists - 98 Games Romario - 55 Goals + 27 Assists - 75 Games Zidane - 31 Goals + 27 Assists - 108 Games Maradona - 34 Goals + 15 Assists - 91 Games Ronaldinho - 33 Goals + 36 Assists - 97 Games
I have watched Brazil on more than one occasion involved in a penalty shootout where Neymar has ALWAYS taken the 5th penalty, and it was the right decision. I wouldn't change anything. Penalties are always a lottery. The only question I have for the coach is Rodrygo being in instead of Vinicious or Richarlison (I would put one of them as the First Penalty). But having said that, rewind back to 1998 Brazil vs Netherlands Penalties in the Semi Final. Who takes the 1st Penalty? 21 Year Old Ronaldo. Rodrygo is about the same age.
Indeed very naive. Why commit a lot of players forward when you have the lead with 3mins to go? I was like, what is Fred doing by chasing after the ball all the way near Croatia's penalty box, when he was brought on to help defend😂😂😂😂
Brazil were just unlucky. they almost had it. For me, Brazil is still the team that plays better football. However, winning the world cup is difficult because there are other factors like injuries, red card etc... For instance, Casemiro could have stopped that attack by Croatia. Casemiro could have stopped it but he was already sitting on yellow card, if he got another one, and Brazil passed to the semifinal, he would not play that match. So , that is world cup. The match was 1-1 and penalties is just like lotteries. So , Brazil did well, they did not lose in the 90 minutes, they lost to penalties shoutout!
Nothing about luck when France will win it again for the first time in a row since WC was introduced. Our French team is just mentally stronger than any other team and we have the talent + the experience that will bring us the final victory 🙌. Brazil’s team were already mentally fragile and not winning a WC for the past 20 years. Before we win, France will have reached 4 times the finals (which is another record) in the past 20 years. Brazil only one, that says a lot about their psychology and mental game which is kind of weak.
@@crobeastness in the modern times, not in the last century. And back then football was like playing softball, nothing compared to the level today. It’s like saying Uruguay winning twice the WC. Nobody remembers that and cares cuz it was at a different era when football wasn’t today’s football.
@@sebastianwilson8899 Exactly this - you score a goal in the dying minutes of extra time, then instead of consolidating and defending you decide to plant 6 guys forward and go for another goal. That and not have one of your best penalty takers take a shot, or that Croat implemented a game plan that shut brazil down and prevented them from playing as they want to, which Brazil couldn't find an answer to. That can be considered many things - arrogant, reckless, stupid - but not unlucky. Make no mistake, there is always an element of luck involved in football. But these are factors that Brazil had direct control over and chose not to act on. And if Brazil are going to continue kidding themselves that it was due to bad luck/keep making excuses instead of taking responsibility for their errors, maintain their deluded sense of arrogance and entitlement, and then react by having a mental breakdown/surprised Pikachu face, star number 6 isnt getting sown onto their jerseys any time soon. Seriously if a 7-1 thumping does nothing to change your mindset and approach, nothing will.
I said the exact thing zaba, like with 10 mins to go inna game, that's wen ur game management skills should kick in, I bet if that what Croatia then u would have seen game management for sure
Brazil believed the stories about how good they were, and expected, carried away by the surrender of their previous opponents, that Croatia would "take off their underwear and get ready" for you-know-what. That won't work, play it and then dance..
I thought each team has to submit the list of the penalty takers IN THE ORDER they will take them? If I'm right, you can't switch players. If it's still level after the 5 penalties, then anyone can go in any order. Can someone confirm or correct me, please?
The problem is the quality of our coaches. I cant believe so many people dont see that. We had the best players available (after France lost so many starters to injuries), but our coaches make stupid decisions from the squad selection to Key moments of the games. Belgium scored in 2018 because Felipe Luis was wrongly replaced for a injured Marcelo (and not as good defensively). Against Croatia the stupid Tite decided to take Vini so early which is the same as taking griezmann out for France. Nobody would do that. Instead of using Fabinho, he uses Fred (bench at Man utd). Instead of using Martinelli (who was the best against Cameroon), he used Antony. He even used a injured Alex Sandro because he didnt Trust Daniel Alves (who should not even be part of the squad). He also had to take out Militão because he was exhausted, and this happened because he did not call up enough defenders (like Gabriel Magalhães). The list goes on. Those decisions on penalties were pathetic, it shows no command, no planning and not enough training.
What I want to know is when Martinelli becomes even a more established footballer being on a CL team Arsenal and competing for PL titles and just being one of the best wingers ITW which should happen by the next major tournament, what is going to happen because at that time, Martinelli will be a starter for Brazil but Vini is strictly a LW so is Martinelli gonna be playing through the middle? Where does that leave GJ? Will the front 3 be Vini, Jesus and Martinelli by then?

With five minutes of extra time left, what did the Brazilians do, they started to slow it down as if they could naively run the clock down. THEY HAD THE WRONG MENTALITY NEEDED TO FINISH OFF THE GAME. I mentioned it to others as this was happening. They should have been playing HARD for the last five minutes. They have the skill to keep the ball, but they thought they were through. FOOLISH. If they were determined as a team to fight to keep the lead, which physically they are more than capable of doing, but apparently they were not mentally. Hats off to Croatia then and my favorites are out, but have seen this with Brazil before. Work on it
Lets be honest Croatia had just one shot on target and it went in because of a deflection. Brazil created many chances and dominated the game but sometimes the better team ends up losing. Cant be too harsh on Brazil
Brazil were not aggressive enough, sloppy, slow and lacked intensity, they are still not learning from previous world cup exits, if they ever want to win the world cup they need to change their approach because its not working...The most important step is to appoint the right manager clearly these Brazilian coaches cant do it, they have been given chances time and time again still they fail so its high time they changed, the right European tactician with those players will be a world cup win for Brazil.
Brazil didn't realize that it takes hardly 30 seconds to make an equalizer. They should have defended with tooth and nail in the last 15 mins. That was their cardinal mistake. The Manager has to be sacked if he didn't already resign. His strategy failed, the captain failed, the team failed.
Brazil national team has been super overrated since their last win in 2002. Brazil never won against a single European team in the knockout stages (after group stage) of World Cup since 2002.

At that world-class level, it's not an exact science. Just pick 5 guys who haven't been subbed out and deal with it. Let's say Rashford and Sancho makes their pens in the Euro final... would it have made Southgate a genius? Of course not. A stronger confederation (CONMEBOL) would keep the likes of Brazil and Argentina honest. Contrary to the popular belief that, for whatever reason, continues to circulate, the South American qualification system is not the toughest in the world. It's a walk in the park for Brazil and Argentina. Uruguay is the anomaly. Ecuador produces good teams on occasion but relies heavily on home advantage. The rest of the teams are absolutely dirt poor. It's easier said and done, of course, but strengthening the bottom five teams and their respective leagues would change things. It would raise the standard and expectations.
