On today’s podcast, Ashley Thompson and Mario Ritter, Jr. host the show. Ashley tells listeners what they are going to hear.
00:52 First, Bryan Lynn has a report on new research about dinosaurs that lived in modern-day Brazil. Scientists say heavy rains helped them discover a fossil in Brazil that might belong to one of the world’s oldest dinosaurs. The team said the bones make up nearly a complete dinosaur skeleton and are believed to be about 233 million years old. learningenglis...
06:21Then, John Russell reports on concerns about the environment in Peru. An advocacy group for Indigenous peoples has released images of an uncontacted Peruvian Amazon tribe’s members searching for food outside of their usual area. The group calls the pictures evidence that industrial tree cutting operations are “dangerously close” to the tribe’s territory. The environmentalists want logging rights to be taken away from a Peruvian company to protect the tribe.
11:33 that, Mario has this week’s education report. Political leaders are pushing state legislatures to pass laws banning student cellphones in schools. Opinion studies show that most schools have policies on students’ cellphone use. But some teachers say they cannot control students and a law is necessary.
Now many states are pushing measures for laws restricting the use of smartphone device by student in schools.
18:26 Following the report, Ashley and Mario discuss some key words. They are the contrasting words indicate and cite and the word distraction.
20:52 Finally, Andrew Smith and Jill Robbins talk about reported speech on Lesson of the Day. They use Lesson 20 of Level 2 of Let’s Learn English to teach about how English speakers show reported speech. In the episode, Anna and her friend are filming a car show for a report. Go to the website to find a complete lesson. The lesson gives examples and grammar points about verb tense and usage.
