As a carp angler (as well as match) this is all standard stuff of which we’ve been doing for years. Still brilliant though how an anger of Tommy’s experience and age is still keen to learn and still gets a buzz when he discovers something new. His passion and enthusiasm literally makes you want to go fishing when you watch him 😁

Hi Tommy, if you try not to squeeze the discs and keep the air in them, you will find it will pop up. Its the air in the disc that makes it float.

Always done that with a polystyrene chip tray punch out a disc same size as bread

I have used your method of a punched neeonz and 2/3 discs but istead of pinching a couple of Stots on the line I have slid a single medium Stopz on. This protects the hooklength and also can be slid up and down to suit pop up distance required. Great tip by the way Tommy. Cheers

You could do a refined match style zig rig. Then you can pop it up at whatever depth you want. It works at my local lake in winter. Its 15ft deep in middle of lake, but the, carp sit anywhere from a foot to 5/6ft off bottom. Having a adaptable zig rig lerts you search more water. Good video tommy.

I bet the cast/impact affects if or how much it floats. I use marshmallows, they last longer and definitely float.
@newsmonger77

Tried that, they float great but the carp refused them which surprised me because I thought the sweetness would attract them.

@@newsmonger77 last winter I couldn't buy a bite on bread, yet marshmallows were better by a mile. Different fish, different fisheries.

Ive always used a slice of white pop up boilie, but white neonz seems a lot easier so ill have a tub of them. The other bonus of doin it this way Tom is if there are any small fish pecking at your bread, you can be 100% confident youre still fishing.

Cold water is very dense … warm water less… So at home 20deg… the bread will sink… On a very COLD lake it’s more likely to float.

Good idea with the neon mate! In a small tank the surface tension is great and compact it needs to be dropped from a height as in fishing conditions it doesn't help things by hanging the line over the side which adds to the bouyancy of the bait in a tank! A couple of shot on the line will give you accuracy with sinking. It's what I do! 👍

Hi Tommy, Great informative content as usual. Please give this suggestion a go in your test tank, it works. Do everything as you as you do now, before you punch your bread discs, sprinkle the bread with "Robin Red" or any other favourite ground bait, I use Robin Red because it also adds colour. The ground bait gets trapped between the discs of bread and as it swells up in the water, is then slowly released into the water. Tip for you, use a plain disc as your first one.

I advocated a thin slice of pop up white boilie to pop your bread up on your part 1 as you say guarantees it floats like the zig rigs the big boys use, the other bonus is if your bread comes off you still have a bait on not perfect but better than nowt also a yellow or fluro bit of floater acts like a target and can get a bite. I like your soft floating neons better I’m using that next time !

just dont compress the bread in the punch, floats every time, if u want it to sink compress it in the punch
@newsmonger77

Once bread has sunk, that's it! It will not float again. Its the air in the bread that makes it float. Once the air it out it will sink. That's why pinched bread sinks.

You got a couple of new flavours of sensate on your table Tommy
@SensitivityIsland
@SensitivityIsland 10 месяцев назад
Simple physics ...press hard, volume decreases, mass stays constant ...liable to sink.. Press not too hard, vol bigger than the original but mass the samec...liable to float. Putting separate discs on ...not crushed tightv...liable to float. Bread structure isnt consistent either ...

Does the hard disc of Neon not make it 'hard' so defeating the point of fishing a very soft bait?

All about how much air left in bread pal. When you've squeezed the air out it'll sink. Even if it appears to swell in the water it won't float as its swelling with water. It needs air to make it rise but with it being underwater there's no air. Pretty basic really mate.
