Breakdown & Evacuation by Backstage - Pirates of the Caribbean - Disney World - Magic Kingdom 

Is there anyway to get a backstage tour of Pirates ? Or is that impossible . How about if you paid a cast member .

My Marching band got to do this too, sadly I got food posioning and wasnt able to march, I would love to get another oppurtunity to do it again.

YEP they dont like it when you video an evacuation ect ...but tbh i dont know why these days as there are so many vids on YT of evacuations at disney ect! ...could be that Pirates is one of the Orginal rides that is still popular and even with maintenment , upgrading things ect ...it opened in 1967 in disney land california and then opened in 1973 at disney world soooo yep IT'S getting on a bit at nearly 50 yrs old this yr ( 2022) i Can see them NEVER getting rid of it (especaily after the blockbuster movies ) but like i said its nearly a 50 yr old ride and Disney do an astounding job of keeping it going same with its a small world, peter pan, mr toad ect .....thats what i love about the Disney parks they try to keep their classic rides where they can ! ..I live in the U.K and Blackpool Pleasure beach here still has A lot of wooded coasters built in the 20s and 30s ect ..sadly they have got rid of some of their classic rides ( some that were the only ones left in the U.K) for more upto date rides and steel coasters as the park is on a limited footprint with nowhere to expand ...saying that its still i think the biggest park with so much fitted in that foot print per say ...unlike say alton towers that is in Acres of land ect

That was my question. There's an entrance back into the park right there, but they had to walk around the whole building. And the crossing the railroad at grade shouldn't be a big deal. It's been closed for years at this point.

My guess is that they do it for consistancy. Same reason they have the directional marking stenciled on the pavement.

I got stuck on the descent back to earth on Spaceship Earth once and that was an awkward position too! You have no idea just how steep that incline is until you are stopped there for a length of time, lol.

@@TheAverageServant I am going to give my opinion...Disney does make a lot of money and lately it does seem like they have forgotten what Walt's vision was for the Walt Disney Company, but let me tell you something about machines, it doesn't matter how much maintenance you do on them, they are going to break down. Also, when you start adding computers into the mix that causes problems to.

That's what I've been wondering too! Ride breakdowns we're a rare occurrence which was something that you were lucky if you caught. Now it's so common, you're lucky if you get to ride an attraction that won't most likely breakdown. It's at a point people are happy it breaks down. So backwards. It's really sad.

I wonder if different guests were brought out through different building exits, and a single guest-recovery team is easier. Also more logical to the guest to bring them close to where they started. And the evac is likely an extended procedure, so you run the risk of running into a parade or character cavalcade. Better to route the guests away from potential traffic.

Oh I've figured out why they do it with the huge amount of extra walking. There's a level crossing for the Magic Kingdom railway on that access road. Fine if you're well chaperoned, but evacuees may not all be well chaperoned. Of course, I believe train has been out of operation for years ...

it's the nature of stagecraft. if you go to broadway or any staged event anywhere in the world, the backstage always looks this way.

If guests can't see it, how it looks isn't super important. Pretty much any backstage area at amusement parks is going to look like a hot mess.

@@the_synack I suppose, but it explains why the rides break down so often. Underneath that fascade, the rides are cheap.

You do know that this ride has been operating for decades right? Why would they need to make backstage as good as the front. No matter how rides are maintained, they are bound to breakdown once in a while. At least when it breaks down it gets resolved eventually. If you go to a rollercoaster park, when it breaks down or has some issues it's closed for the entirety of the day.

@@NicoTineman Ride systems are complex, have many moving parts and many points of failure. In this case, it seemed like the pumping system that provided the current for the boats failed. Ride systems have TONS of fail safes that can cause a ride to e-stop for a reason as small as a sensor malfunction. Disney also runs these attractions 365 days a year, so there's no off-season for maintenance.

You go to any amusement or theme parks and you're bound to experience break downs. As long as they compensate you then you move on with your day. This ride has been operating since the 70s. You should be surprised how it's still operating well these days even with a breakdown or two,

While true, something like this is a cool experience for those that really love the ride. I’d kill to get a ride evac on Pirates so I can see all the sets and animatronics closer

Vehicles,. Airplanes,. Trains, boats,. Rides,. All mechanical,. Will break down,. &&. All the value $$ of above, can't avoid that occurrence. 🤕😌👍

Actually why on earth would they care about a video of people safely evacuating a ride after a shutdown I think something like this is the least of the Disney legal team's worries

@@Kettei you have no clue as to what goes on backstage. And it’s videos like this that ruin the “MAGIC”. If you want to see what happens backstage, buy a keys to the kingdom tour or get a job here.
