Apea cake is an Amish coffeecake that isn't really too sweet. The Amish are known for their delicious foods and tasty desserts. This coffeecake is dense but it makes it great for dunking in coffee or milk. Please try making this breakfast cake, you won't regret it!
INGREDIENTS:
Preheat oven at 350 F.
It makes 2 coffeecakes
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup Crisco
1 cup milk
1 egg
Combine the first 6 ingredients
Cut in Crisco until fine
Add milk and egg
Batter will be thick and sticky
Spray 2 - 8 inch cake pans with Pam and place parchment paper on bottom of pans
Divide the batter between the cake pans
Smooth out batter
Place in 350 F. oven for 30 to 40 minutes
Test for doneness with toothpick, if toothpick come out clean when tested in center of cake it's done
Cool on wire rack. Remove from pans and sprinkle with sugar.
This breakfast cake is really good! It may look plain but it is really tasty.
