LOL...the Cap'n certainly has a buttery, almost like shortbread taste and Apple Jacks is (in my opinion) just overpowered with cinnamon. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to note when eating BOTH is....the way they absolutely TEAR UP the roof of your mouth! Eating a big bowl of Cap'n Crunch and chasing it with a swig of high proof spirit is a sure way to just torch your mouth!

Cap'n Crunch is a corn and oat breakfast cereal. Cap'n Crunch cereal was developed to recall a recipe of brown sugar and butter over rice. It was one of the first cereals to use an oil coating to deliver its flavoring.

You said you couldn't put your finger on what Cap'n Crunch tastes like, other than that 'grain' flavor of course. That savory/oily note is peanut butter. Apple Jacks are sugar+cinnamon+sour apple flavored. 'Sour apple' is an artificial version of 'granny smith' apple flavor. They are green and have a tart/sour taste.

I'd say captain crunch would probably be the one I'd lean more towards but without tasting I'm not sure. I think you should try rice crispy cereal vs corn flakes next and see if it even does anyone flavor wise

Kind of think the winner would be the one that needed less fussing/experimenting/tweaking with to get something really good or to reach its full potential. If you only needed another batch, two at most, to get Cap'n Crunch as a good product and two or more with Apple Jacks, then Cap'n Crunch is the winner.

When I was a lad, Captain Crunch was my favorite sugary cereal. Not surprising it made the better spirit. Sounds like it would be interesting if oaked. Never was a fan of Apple Jacks. I agree, hard to explain the flavor of Captain Crunch, just sugary buttery yumminess.

I would describe Capt'n Crunch as a Buttery/ butterscotchy flavor and Apple jacks a sweet, citric acid/slight cinnamon flavor. Both have a grain base flavor.

If you are going to do any sorta of cereal run off you have to include frosted flakes cinnamon toast crunch and honey nut cherrios three of the most popular in the world. My first run like many was a cereal wash made with mini wheats and my favorite sugar was was with Weetabix. I love the meme spirits line they are very fun love to see skittles vs twizzlers

Glade you're doing this with the original Cap'tain crunch cereal so you are just getting the corn, oat flour, Brown sugar, palm/ coconut oil notes that the cereal might be able to come through the distillation process. The peanut butter flavored one just add to the many things that proplexes Europeans, Kiwis and Ozzy's and etc, "What is Americans obsessions with candy sweet cereals and peanut butter?"The Captain crunch berry flavor one might of came out weird tasting after the distillation process. Apple Jack's is mostly a yellow corn flour, wheat/ whole grain oat flour cereal. Any oilyness you might get is a blend of vegetable, coconut, soybean/ cotton seed oil. If you continue to do these distilling with American Kids cereals. Just wonder if you were to do a apple cinnamon vs a honey nut Cheerios cereal with lactose if that would make a difference?

The sweetened breakfast cereals in the US is aimed at kids. I remember growing up in the 70s watching Saturday morning cartoons and seeing nonstop cereal commercials. 2:51 "They had some sugar content...." SOME? I can feel my blood sugar rocketing up just looking at the boxes they come in!

I haven't had either one since I was a child, but I would say Apple Jacks is an oat-based cereal with apple spices - cinnamon, some nutmeg. Captain Crunch (my old fave) is a sugary, buttered corn flavor.

I Have a weird question would you mind testing it out if possible after distilled a batch of whatever whiskey could you add a bit of MSG into the cold mix to see what the flavor difference it has on the liquid I would say it's it might surprise us all if that would boost the flavor even more

Captian Crunch is Peanut Butter at least the plain one is then there is the one with crunch berries which are fruity so its suppose to be like a PB&J in a bowl. Apple Jacks is a apple and cinnamon like flavor profile.

Captain Crunch has a deep toasty thing going on along with all that sugar. Apple Jacks are basically cinnamon fruit loops, some times with an extra glaze of even more sugar. I don't understand all the added sugar either. Captain Crunch in particular would be even better without it.

I think Cap'n Crunch tastes like buttered creamed corn, but sweetened. Apple Jacks taste like sweet apple plus grain, but also not. That's the harder one for me to describe. A little sweet cinnamon, a little cooked grain, and the faintest touch of red fruit/apple flavor.

Saw a video recently by Brewbird and she was talking about "more methanol in = more methanol out" which did my head in at first, but might make sense when "like molecules" tend to stick together. So putting the high methanol heads back into the still for another "rectification" hoovers up the remaining methanol to make a more defined heads/hearts cut

Apple Jacks ARE Fruit loops. The only difference is a dash of citric acid in fruit loops. Mattpat did a video about it years ago.

Seeing as they are basically random rocket fuels for experimental purposes. You could go full Einstein on them and try mixing them like a college student with traditional soft drinks like coke, dry ginger, lemonade, Fanta ect and see which one wins out that way.

'Captain crunch' without the popular 'crunch berries' is a seriously sweet, crunchy (at first) cereal. It does have a cream corn flavor lying deep under that heavy sugar hit, and some vanilla tones. Left to soak, it becomes a soft milk sponge but still very sweet. I find it leaves an unpleasant oily feeling in my mouth afterward. 'Apple Jacks' is also very sweet, but perhaps not as much as Captain Crunch. It might have some apple flavor but I have to look hard to find it. What you do get is a load of cinnamon and not much grain flavor at all. I am actually surprised that it fermented at all. With all the preservatives present, I did not think it would, even with your sugar alcohol base. I think I would prefer the Apple Jack, but you seemed to feel it was much less finished on the pallet. Maybe it needs to age? Sit it in a corner for a few months and taste it again. As for the Crunch monster, I bet it would have been 'better' if you had used the crunch berries. It might have added a heavier 'artificial fruit' flavor. So, based on your response. I guess we can expect a new 'Party Booze' craze based on Cereal brands. "Captain Crunch vodka" anyone?

Companies play on the addictive qualities of sugar on kids. They get that sugar rush, crash, and want more. Then, the kids whine in the store to have it, and parents now-a-days can't say no, so they feed the addiction more. Pretty much selling cigarettes to kids, but legal and morale.... Cap'N Crunch sucks, besides the peanut butter one. The original has a corn like taste, but like you said, is waxy. Apple Jacks tastes like an apple pie made with Red Delicious apples, and a slight hint of cinnamon.

Cap'n crunch is straight peanut butter to me. Peanut butter plus corn sounds a lot like whiskey to me. Add in a bunch of sugar for a vodka or rum flavor. No surprise that it worked.

Those cereal boxes look so weird 😂 I recon I'd prefer the Apple/cinnamon drink... but anyway, if you can find the budget for it (I'm broke af lol) I recon it'd pretty cool to see some of your other favorite cereals but check on the box how much sugar is in it and work out how many boxes get to like 10kg of sugar and then ferment the whole lot as a mash instead of a plain sugar rum net. Sweet breakfasts are largely a consequence of cultures that subsisted on easy and quick to make non refrigerated shelf stable breakfast foods, which are usually cereal grains. Oatmeal or puffed corn, wheat, rice. It was cheap and able to be shipped around the country, and america is a big country with lots of central production so shippability of food has been important in our history. During the great depression there was a lot of starvation which still has great impact on american diet because our country-wide solution to starvation was cheap grain based foods. And if you have a little money, a little sugar on your grain really brings the flavor out and can provide an extra energy boost. As america moved out of the great depression a lot of the habits we picked up during that time kind of come around to bite us in the ass. Parents who grew up during the depression wanted their chidlren to never have to deal with the starvation they saw ravage their families and communities, and so they overprovided food, pouring on as much sugar as the children wanted, thinking back to their youth where they might have had a tablespoon of sugar split between the whole family. It's a very common sentiment among people who are around 60 at this time to talk about how their parents or family members would be a bit insistent on eating more and more. This rapidly turned america from a starving country into an obese country, because we weren't careful about the abundance we allowed ourselves, saying things like everyone should be able to eat a steak every day for the rest of their life However, while there is an abundance of cheap sugary breakfast food, americans also love savory breakfasts and a very classic american hearty breakfast would consist of coffee or orange juice, eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns, sausage, sometimes ham, biscuits and gravy, which can be served with sweet things like pancakes or a cup of mixed fruit. It's somewhat of a derivative of the full english breakfast culinarily i think

I cannot give a really good opinion on those two breakfast cereals because I grew up poor and most of my cereal was Raisin Bran, but usually the off brand or generics.
