NaNoWriMo week one is DONE! I've learned that plotting a mystery novel is truly just untangling a web that you're still in the middle of tangling bahaha. But I've had revelations! I've got everything named and titled! I'm editing while I write! (Truly the biggest shock of all, to me at least lolol.) It's been a great week, even if I'm a lot behind. :)

I wasn't planning on doing Nano this year because I am studying full-time and working full-time so my writing has taken a slight back seat. However, yesterday I decided that I wanted to finish my novel by December 31st so not doing the traditional write 50k in a month but writing 65k in 56 days! Thank you for reminding me that you don't always have to follow the rules

On this eighth day of Nanowrimo, I've written a total of 14,446 words so far (didn't write for three days). However, I recently watched a video that motivated me to write more consistently, and I'll try to write every day until I'm done. Wish me luck, and I wish all the other Nano writers good luck as well.

@milicadiy I'm planning on trying again, I'm hoping I can get the first draft finished so it's more of a rewriting process so I know the story and it's hopefully easier going; I'm doing full time school and a part time job too so we'll see :)

This is my very first Nano and so far I’m having a blast with it. After stagnating with writing for 2 years, I’m using Nano to jump start my creativity again. So far it’s working! It’s also helping me with the discipline I need to push through and write even if I’m not feeling it. I keep debating with myself on whether to go ahead and order the t-shirt, so I feel you on that one! 😅

@@KateCavanaugh I agree with Regina. I don't specifically edit as I write anymore (used to make me super slow) but now that I hand alpha readers chapters as I write (Regina is one of them), I will write and clean up what I can but then hand it over. The real revision and editing happens after I have feedback. It's kind of the best of fast drafting without me looking at my first draft thinking "why did I leave this mess for future me? I don't want it!"

I had a fully planned out novel in October. November 1st hit and hated every bit of the story so I just pantsed into a new novel. I am still behind, only at 8k right now but its still something. I love your videos! Thank you for normalizing not the normal NaNo xP

I'm so freaking excited about your novel. I love mysteries and especially the part with the Red Bull can's fake exterior being peeled off gave me goosebumps (sorry if that sounds silly). I'm really looking forward to learning more about Under the Influence as you go along. :D My NaNo has been going exceptionally well for some reason, I'm writing a lesbian vampire romance and having a lot of fun. I prepped really well this year, which I usually don't do, and I think the more thorough plotting is helping me produce exorbitant word counts haha. Your idea with the NaNo advent calendar is so cool, I might steal that for next year! Good luck with writing and your related health issues! (I got tendinitis in both my wrists last year & know how frustrating that is lol.) May your brain not produce migraines and your wrist be sturdy!

I felt like I had an incredibly strong Act 1 -- a direct result of using Save the Cat! -- but my Act 2 has been really chaotic. I'm learning that I should have brainstormed more story beats for the fun and games.

This is my second Nanowrimon and so far it's been great. I've gotten 18,044 words. Almost exactly 2,000 words a day, the goal that I set for myself to hit. Even if I fail at a normal Nano as I did two years ago, I still have a second story that I've been working on on the side along with the new one for Nano. So hopefully I'll still get 50,000 words in the mouth. Doing this has made me realize how slow I normally write can be and all the distractions when I write. I've forced myself to time my writing so I can get it done and over with for the day before moving on. Hope everyone else's Nano is doing good.

We had so much leftover Halloween candy that I attempted the baggies too. They're in a box in my room on my desk and I forget to take one every day! I was trying to go for more of a fortune cookie kind of thing with inspiring quotes and writing advice, but it's a project that's once again fallen into the pit of "started but totally forgotten" void so many other projects before it have been lost to lol

For nano I am continuing with my current wip that I originally started in 2019 and have rewritten the start and the outline over the past months. Right before nano started I rewrote one part of the outline that no longer fit with what my characters wanted to do and what would make the story more exciting, I feel like this will keep happening because I have so many things that I did not think to plan out before the first of the month and as my writing changed the outline. This makes the whole thing seem a bit more stressful and I am amazed at what I have managed to overlook in the planning stage!

I've written a little this month. I had started planning a serial in October, but ended up pantsing a new story idea that sounds great, but I have no idea where it could go! Definitely order that winner shirt! Even if you don't hit 50k, you're still a winner because you got as far as you did.

Week one went really well!!! But week two is starting off kicking my butt. I put most of my prep into plot stuff because usually that’s where I struggle BUT I just did a 180 on myself and now I don’t have enough character plot and my main character is SO FLAT

@@KateCavanaugh I love Kiersten White so I definitely recommend her And I Darken series which is historical fiction, gender bent Vlad the Impaler. And then I guess it's not super similar to Hide but it's also a kind of spooky summer book I read this year called Summer's Edge by Dana Mele. And then I haven't read this book but I wanted to and it sounds kind of similar/in the same vein as what you're doing it's called Never Coming Home by Kate Williams

It's going so-so. I am slowly starting to fall behind. I tried to do cool or fun rewards for Sprint goals but going and getting the rewards once I do them has proven to be a pain. You should buy the shirt as a reward for getting caught up to par. I personally plan to buy the shirt sometime in the last 5000 words of the challenge as a final motivation if I need it, otherwise I am waiting until the end

I hit the daily goal for the first 4 days and then I had to do life things. I have always found it a bit silly that November is always the busiest month of the year for me and yet I have that little hope that I will get 50k. No matter what, I am happy to finally be working on a new story. I have been editing and rewriting different things for almost two years. I needed to start at the beginning again.

I think vulnerability and imperfections are the easiest ways to make characters likable 🤔 (having them try and act cool but fail at it is a personal favorite of mine)

I’d say you’re doing pretty well for Nano! I’ve barely managed to hit 5K and it’s day 11 already. I like the whole thing with Elevate. Have you read SOMETHING NEW UNDER THE SUN by Alexandra Kleeman? It’s sort of a literary eco-thriller and she creates this fake water brand called WATR. It’s a super interesting story! Highly recommend!

Ah yes my reminder to write because I'm procrastinating Funny enough I was literally ranting about Nanowrimo and how I don't like the idea that doing anything that's not exclusively write 50k, don't edit, just focus on quantity and not quality, is considered "breaking rules" or "rebelling". This is why I started saying that I'm only kind of participating but then by the 7th of this month I said eff it I'm just gonna say I'm not participating at all. Lots of frustration was expressed in that discussion. The coffee grounds being poured into the coffee maker is so satisfying. Also your struggle about whether or not to buy the Nano merch early and simultaneously worried that it's disingenuous is me. 😂

My Nano is not going well. I had debated participating this year because I just got past moving half way across the country to get out of a stressful situation and wasn't sure if I was up for writing. But with the encouragement of my friends, I jumped in. As of right now, eight days in, I have a little over 2K written. I was so much further along last year. Not sure I'm going to make the 50K this year.

For the first week I was home because of school break and I was able to keep to 1500-1700 per day. We went back on monday and I get home late, so I have been writing 200-300 words only. I also started drafting inside the doccument, so obwiously I had to delete that. Oh and the whole story is falling apart. But it's kinda funny because I wanted to write a mystery last summer, but the four girls has to have a full charachter, so I started to write a prequel about one of the girls, but three chapters in I realised that I have no idea how that story should look like so I started this. A Prequel to the prequel. Also It mentions the crime that happens in the original idea but the whole thing takes a timline of 2.5 billion years so it is complicated.

Do you ever find yourself writing similar stories to what you are currently reading? I've done it, it happens, I just noticed the book you just finished is really similar to what you are writing. Was it intentional or accidental?

This one was accidental! I'd put the book on hold about 6 months ago?? And it just happened to come in around this time, after I'd selected my NaNo project bahaha. But I definitely find myself writing stories similar to what I'm reading, in part because that's just what I like/enjoy the most. I do try to be careful with certain genres though so I don't find myself accidentally "stealing" concepts.

I'm a Nano Rebel this year, so I bought myself the "Flower Power: Writer 2022" shirt because I don't have to "win" at 50K to enjoy it! My Nano goal is simple--write every day (unless I'd already scheduled it off). I won last year's Nano and got over 50K but was left with a mess of a story, so this year I let myself be a Rebel and it has been great! Love your updates!

What I like and dont about american writers Black coffee matters My background is deep enough to describe in one sentence: I havent been doing but writing all my life. Ive studied this and that and russian and finnish literature. Everything is a fight. Deep and bloody fight especcialy if you are a female writer to get a folder of prose. My literature studies suffered from corona very badly. I dislike that american writers have all these extra things that is hard to have in Europe. My book is in last editing mode and I am working on my next work. Black coffee matters. Still, dear american writers, you reach your impact even to the Finland.

ha, ha , ha i cair about you and not trying to offend you i have braces in my teeth and want you to have one for your teeth, do counside braces , your teeth are so perfect but the one teeth has bothered me for a while , if that teeth is set perfectly then your teeth would be perfect and i would like to see you with that perfect teeth , normal braces would be fine it would only tak 3 to 6 months max for your teeth. plz do cunside (you have a better face make it more better).
