Unless i'm confused, call me by your name was a fictional story, and all actors were of consenting age to be involved in the portrayal of a story about an inappropriate loving relationship. Whereas Metoo and this are true stories about real human persons who felt uncomfortable with an unrequited interaction they had with someone more powerful/older than they.

The fact that they even made a video is commendable enough since most news outlets are willing to let this slide by until it disappears or actually reaches a courtroom, in partciluar Weinstein's trial.

Yeah Cenk's comment was discusting. Should their be a debate whether 17 yo can consent? Probably. I mean in different countries/states it's anywhere from 14 too 21. 18 is a good standard, but there is no reason to be critical about it. Imo age difference, and the subsequent power dynamics are more important then an arbitrary age limmit. Should it be a double standard? no. 17 yo girls are as much hormone driven as boys of the same age.

Frahamen it’s definitely not about the legality aspect (though this isn’t a get-out-of-jail), I just didn’t like Alonso’s line “if it’s true”... it just smacks of double standards. Of course it doesn’t detract from allegations against Weinstein, but it also says, perhaps there’s a lot more rot (and complexity) than sometimes social movements have tolerance for. The MeToo movement is undoubtedly overdue... but when it starts to look like the whole system is f’d up, it starts to look less like a cause than a symptom of bigger problems.
