Walt was so ugly to Skyler on the phone because he KNEW the police were listening. He wanted them to believe Skyler was not a willing accomplice in order to protect her. Talking to her like that would help protect her.

Yep. He took Hollie for that reason... To protect Skylar, Junior and the baby... Once he realizes that Skylar and the kids aren't going to run with him he does what he planned was the next best thing to "protect" them. Crazy that he thought of that after wrestling around with the knife with his wife etc. Crazy.

@@benjaminroe311ify I don't think Walt planned that beforehand. The look on his face during the Holly scene made it look like he changed his mind. Still wild that he thought of a way to use it in his favor though.

Asia figured it out that Walter was trying to keep Skyler from being incriminated. Some reactors miss that upon their first viewing because of how much of an emotional whirlwind the viewer is being put through in the episode. But that's 100% what Walter was doing. Trying to salvage what little piece of humanity he had left in him.

I feel like nobody mentions the ATMOSPHERE of this episode. It has such a visceral and emotional feeling that no other piece of art has replicated for me, it's almost like the episode puts you through the trauma that all the main characters are feeling. The atmosphere almost feels apocalyptic and nightmarish, which is appropriate considering it depicts a once normal family being torn apart in such a horrifying manner. I couldn't believe what I was seeing the first time I watched it, it felt like MY life had just fallen apart lol

Small nod to Walt, when he's cursing out Skyler on the phone, he's being brilliant. It sounds like he's cutting loose on her and finally taking out all his true aggression, but in reality, he's releasing her of any wrongdoing in the eyes of authorities. By making it seem like she was being held hostage she gets a better chance in regards to prosecution. The best part is, Skyler knows it given her expression as she holds the phone in her hand. Also, don't forget, at the BEGINNING of the season, Walt is turning 52 at the diner. Then later, we see him as he's turning 51.

The episode 'Ozymandias' is based on the poem 'Ozymandias' written by Percy Shelley. Here is the poem: I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said-"Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: ‘My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!' Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away." The poem is about how even the greatest empires fall and become lost to time. There was a statue of the king Ozymandias (Ramesses II) that was discovered in the 19th century but was all broken. In his time Ramesses II was a very powerful king in control of a vast empire. This statue was a once a symbol of his power, but now all that remains is this broken statue that symbolizes a long ago collapsed empire and a long forgotten reign of this mighty king. In the poem the line ‘My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!' is ironic because it's an inscription on a statue that is meant to convey power, but on this broken old monument it just looks silly and shows how this powerful King of Kings and his mighty empire was destroyed by the ravages of time and "nothing beside remains" except sand. To get the full experience watching this episode, you must watch Bryan Cranston's reading of this poem. The video was aired on AMC right before the episode premiered. It was meant to set the mood for this episode. The video is available on YT, titled: 'Ozymandias As Read by Bryan Cranston'

i like to think Jack's crew didn't really beat Jesse up but one time where his face got split, just cause they show Marie still at the carwash right after Jesse is shown chained in Todd's lab. this all seemed to happen within a day, perhaps just hours after the shootout in the desert. maybe its just a weird edit, but if this is chronologically correct, Todd had been clearly scheming and plotting on keeping him (or probably Walter most likely) as a slave cook for him to have that whole rail and lock thing rigged up and welded ahead of time :o

I know y’all have been finished with this for a while but I love these, especially as you get closer to the end. We can tell how engrossed you are when there is very little talking and joking and your eyes are glued to the screen!! Such a great show. Watching you watch them has made me want to rewatch the whole series on my own.

You are one of the few reactors to catch the fact that Walter was trying to take the heat off Skyler with that phone call. Most people don’t figure it out this soon.
@LoneWolf_Cub_Ogami_Itto

That phone call at the end was Walter legally accepting 100% of this and that Skyler was a victim of him, that she coerced by Walt. Its giving her the least amount of legal culpability though she'll still have some.

Asia, you nailed it! Walt was trying to clear Skyler’s name as best as he could. When I watched the family scene for the first time the night it was aired, I felt sick to my stomach when he was backing up that truck into Skyler’s car. CRAZY!!

I just realized when Walt put his hands up @16:22 that's exactly how Gus did when he walked right towards the sniper. I heard the writers say every time Walt murdered someone he took on aspects of their personality
@snooks5607
@snooks5607 Год назад
he spreads them out for half a second as a callback perhaps but in Gus' scene he didn't raise his hands just spread them as a challenge (knowing that the sniper was a warning not to walk away from the cartel instead of being out to kill him)

Seeing everything happen the way it does in these episodes where Hank and Gomez have Jesse working with them to take Walt down as well as Hank and Gomez arresting Walt only for moments later Jack and his gang to show up after Walt called them and then says to not come when he realizes Hank is there and then for them to all get into a shootout seems a bit like everything Walt has done has lead up to this point. And then in the beginning of Ozymandias we see Gomez has been killed and not long after Hank is killed by Jack. And while Walt has no doubt done a lot of terrible things, the fact he was going to give Jack all his money so Hank could live I think says a lot. Despite their differences in the last half of the season, Walt never wanted Hank dead. It sucks Jesse is now a prisoner and has to cook for the Neo-Nazis now, especially after Walt told him he watched Jane die and could have saved her. And for Walt to go on the run after giving Skyler an out with the police with the phone call in that she wasn’t a willing participant and that Walt forced her to launder his money for him with the car wash which is probably the nicest thing he’s done for her in seasons only for him to have to go on the run afterwards… this show has been a wild ride and while many complain about how the Nazis are the villains of the last half of the season, Walt has been the real villain after Gus died. His ego is so big after killing Gus that he believes he’s untouchable and that’s what makes him the villain of the last season. Great reactions guys, I hope you’re both doing well. Take care!
