I've seen a lot of vids and comments and stuff talking about how this song is about military soldiers and such, but I am kinda thinking it's about someone taking their own life, or at least contemplating it. "It only hurts just once" and "You'll be fine, I will get left behind" seem like some really disturbing lines of someone's personal demons pushing them to finally end things. Such a depressing song, I love it. Also fits in with the idea of being an "Unknown Soldier" as we're all soldiers in our own battles against our thoughts and emotions, but most don't care or acknowledge it.
I'm not sure but Ben suffers from Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wernicke%E2%80%93Korsakoff_syndrome) so he might be talking about it, don't quote me on that tho'

I went with my dad to go see them live and some drunk guy next to me was mind blown by the fact that I knew every word to every one of their songs! They are great live!

Bailey T hell yes it is! They played this in Nashville a few days after veterans day back in 2015 and did a shout out to all veterans. I really appreciated it and respected them even more.
this was the song that got me into breaking Benjamin. I found it from a HOTD amv and fell in love with the song. I don't regret finding this band, they sure know how to turn my blood into adrenaline

My brother is why this song means so much to me he served this country for 12years and fought for this country in Iraq for many years thank god he came back and wasnt an unknown soldier but I'm sorry for all those that didnt make it back
