Vancouver Canucks defenceman Carson Soucy has been suspended one game for cross checking Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid, hours after Nikita Zadorov was fined for the same incident.

@@burts3781the identifying factor between a play getting suspended or not from a crosscheck is the placement of the crosscheck. As evidenced from the above video, Soucy crosschecked Mcdavid in the face which also occurred with Hyman’s crosscheck to Zadorov’s face. Zadarov crosscheck Mcdavid to the back. Both Hyman and Soucy should get suspensions. Rigged.

Soucy starts it all with the two-hand shove. McDavid retaliates with the slash to the pants (deliberately picked a spot that won’t inflict any pain at all) Soucy slashes McDavid back in the same manner on the leg Soucy sees zadorov moving in from behind to cross check the numbers, and decides to cross check him in the face as well, after he already slashed him back You’re a clown if you think anyone but soucy and zadorov need to be punished here

The bottom line is the refs have to call all the major infractions no matter what team or player it is. Hockey is a rough sport but at the end of the day, nobody wants to get hurt or worse.

Very similar play on Dylan Larkin against Ottawa, rabbit punched in the back of the head, causing him to fall forward into a butt end to his face causing a concussion and no penalty or supplement discipline…..lack of consistency and clear bias towards McDavid and the Oilers.

Seriously, I've hated the Oilers for more than 40+ years now, and I've now got the double cross check of McPussy as my new desktop wallpaper to celebrate, but I will still gladly cheer on McDavid when he eventually plays for the Canadian Olympic team. Yet with Marchard, even though he's Canadian as well, I hope he doesn't make the team because I know it would hurt him personally and after watching him cheap shot his way across the league for his entire career, I like to see him suffer.

The NHL makes it very clear headshots accidental or not will not be tolerated. This is the right call headshots accidental or not have to place in the game. Soucy coulda just slashed him back or grabbed him and roughed him up. Cross check to the face won’t be tolerated. Good stuff for NHL Player Safety.

So I guess according to player safety, when Darnell Nurse nearly broke every bone in Elias Pettersons neck with a boarding hit in the numbers, and then went back and elbowed him in the head again for good measure, that was okay? If you wanna argue Petey changed his position so the hit looks worse then it was, I don't care, you know what your doing when you do it. Clearly i don't have enough qualifications to work at player safety.

That slash by McDavid was to the pads of the pants, seen that so many times, in so many games. If you're going to be upset on something McDavid did, then be on the high-stick to Hughes. Bc that little slash didnt warrent a cross-check that even without falling wouldve hit Mcdavid in his throat. Player like McDavid have always been given preferential treatment by the NHL. I remember when Wayne Gretzky in the 90s got alway with all kinds of things because he was Wayne. He'd have a little chat with the refs and it certainly gave his teams an advantage. When you're considered an ambassador of the game because of your status in the league, you can get away with a lot. That's just how it is. I don't think the league favours the Oilers for any other reason. It's just a don't mess with McDavid thing. The Canucks don't generate a ton of eyeballs for the NHL beyond British Columbia, so they're not getting any breaks. The Oilers wouldn't normally either as a small market Canadian team, but they have perhaps the best offensive player in the game, so that helps their cause. To me, all that stuff is part of hockey. It certainly was in the 90s, before the NHL decided it made them look bad to potential American fans. For some reason, Americans love the NFL, where the goal is hit each other, but hockey should be played by ballerinas. It's a tough, emotional sport. Obviously, there's a line you can cross where you should be suspended, but I think drawing blood is worse than a cross check, unless it directly targets the head. Not that the NHL really cares. I mean, the NFL has dealt with their concussion problem years ago, but the NHL seems incapable of that. The only time they take action is when someone targets a high profile player, and then they step in and act in the wrong way to grant that one player immunity. There's no bias between the 2 teams beyond that. If the Oilers had lower profile players, this wouldn't be an issue. But it's the McDavid factor, just like it was the Gretzky factor in the 90s.

I knew there would be some form of discipline being dished out. I expected fines for Z and Soucy, but also expected one for Hayman as well Soucy was going for the pretty standard "cross shove" where they just shove each other in the chest/shoulders, McDavid hit from behind made him eat the stick instead of the nothing play it would have otherwise been.

That hit was "worse" because to cross check someone as tall as Zodorov, there can *only" be intent as you have to aim very high to hit a player his height in the face. I am in no way saying that McDavid deserved what hit him. But a standard crosscheck/shove like that one, most of the time doesn't get called anyway. Z saw a two handed slash against his line mate and reacted to it Either fines for all involved (Hayman and McDavid as well as the Canucks) or fines for none

I don't understand the idea that he deserved it. A slash to the leg, in a padded area of your body, vs a hard cross check to the face. Honestly, if this is deserved. Fair enough. Then by that logic, you should be able to cross check literally any player in the NHL in the face, because every player at one point or another slashes, or does an equal action against another player.

Soucy cross-checked McDavid to the neck but due to having done so will be missing game 4 of the Oilers-Canucks series. Whether in game 5 Soucy will bring his A-game, including staying more reasonably disciplined than a cross-check to an opposing player's neck, remains TBD.

Kind of dumb to be honest. It was just bad timing cause if Zadorov didn't do his thing at the same time as Soucy, Soucy's love tap would've just be at McDavid's chest. Also McDavid's embellishment actually made it worse.
