Carlos Pena and the MLB Tonight panel dives into Christian Yelich's swing evolution and what makes it one of the smoothest left-handed swings in the league
Not really. They take small samples and spin a narrative out of it, only showing you what they want to see. But Peña is one of the better ones they have, to be fair. Not that the others set the bar very high
Great breakdown. I've watched Yeli for awhile and felt it his problem was his timing due to his swing mechanics being off. So many times you can tell Yeli is seeing a pitch and he gets his body in a good hitting position, but the barrel of his bat is not where he wants it to be (almost lags behind his body) and the result is him being late on the pitch. The times Yeli actively tells himself to swing early he starts taking some wild hacks like swings at pitches in the dirt. If he gets a fastball and he is early, he just rolls over on it with his body in a bad position to hit it. All parts of his body need to be in sync for his swing to work
