Considering that she comes back more confident after the time skip anyway, I plan to make her my dancer. Then it’s like she got a confidence boost from beating the house with Dorothea.
Marianne is a weird case since a lot of classes can work with her magic damage output but it's hard to cover for everything she wants to use. You can go for multiple classes of course like you said in the video but it kinda takes away from time you could spend getting higher Authority, Prowess skills or simply other units. She's a unique take on mages for the most part.
I usually go for monk - mage valkery - gremory and switch between valkery or gremory as her final classes depending on what I need for the map. Bishop its allso good class to pic beffore gremory, she is a grate healer and utility mage. I don't see a reason to put her on the front lines and lore wise i don't think Mariane woud like it eather.
Without excessive grinding and favoritism, I doubt you’ll get mov +1 until the late game, and it’ll come at the cost of a lot of spell progression. Would rather just slap on the fetters of dromi and call it a day
@@m3mori I mean if you only focus on Riding for her and nothing else she can get it by the Timeskip. She doesn't need spells if all she's doing is dancing
@@LinkachuHQ if you're only focusing on riding and nothing else marianne will be straight dogshit early game when you could have gotten stuff like thoron or frozen lance to make it easier. given that the early game in fe3h is definitely the hardest part i really don't think it's worth it. also maybe this is just personal preference but i prefer my dancers to have some utility. like when dorothea can fire off a meteor or physic, or ferdinand can pick up an important kill and then dodge the rest of the enemy. hell even marianne herself has some utility she can provide as a dancer with silence or getting the extra range with thoron. it's not like dancer marianne will be bad if you choose to neglect everything to focus on getting A riding, because it's straight up impossible for a dancer to be bad, but it still seems like such a waste of time
When I first started following your channel, I didn’t quite understand why you didn’t value healing more but now that I’ve become a more skilled player I get it. I recruited Hapi to have a unit with Physic once Marianne wasn’t able to use her spells but she’s mostly sat on the bench since then anyway because I still have Constance and Lysithea with Heal. My units either don’t take damage because they are tanks or want to stay on low health.
every one of your breaking down videos i watch reminds me of my suboptimal play lol. when i had marianne, i essentially just used her in the white magic classes the whole time, switching to the (what i now know is essentially a meme class) holy knight late game, but these are some really interesting directions to take her. really my problem is i almost never use combat arts, and because i'm bad and play on normal, i'm rarely punished for this style. probably gonna do a maddening playthrough eventually once i finish the routes on normal, but i'll definitely try to remember these ideas (or maybe just rewatch this video) for when i do that run
I actually picked her up super late game in my Azure Moon playthrough recently as a final +1 to the team and she put in a surprising amount of work. Slight spoilers for that route’s final map, but there’s. So. Many. Units even if you warp battalion build dimitri into the fray. Maneuvering around the offensive battalions while trying to kill the left group of siege mages was so tough, but Marianne’s silence came in clutch and let my other units advance to deal with the batallions. She also easily slotted into dark flier thanks to her sick boons (covering for the main mage weakness, survivability) and those few casts of physic were so helpful for the boss. Her cute support and ending with dimitri were a bonus :) overall a very fun unit that can join at any phase of the game and put in some work, and i hope i get to try some of the more complex builds you mentioned to get more out of her P.S don’t put marianne into trickster worst fucking mistake of my life that class is so trash
Frozen lance is even better on Mairanne because you're probably going to be raising her riding, which means you're likely to get Dex+4 pretty early on. Decent damage boost for her best combat art in the early game.
Nicely made as always. I kept wondering if you'd mention Dark Knight up until the very end haha, though I prefer Valkyrie/Falcon Knight to Dark Knight so I agree with you there. Nothing will ever stop me from just making her a holy knight half the time despite it not being the greatest option though.
Love the video. I am currently using Marianne in Falcon Knight and I was finding her effective but a bit one note (Frozen Lance again!). You’ve given me some ideas about shaking things up. The issue is I’m in the late game and I don’t think her Reason is high enough for the Abyss classes. In retrospect, I think I should have gone for Valkyrie on her instead of Hit+20 and unlocked more of her spell list. I’m also using Constance in MS and am enjoying being able to use her spells in addition to the sword CAs.
Yeah i would definitely not slow spell progression for hit +20 on mages, especially bc marianne (and lots of other mages) have high hit rate spells innately and dodging spells is way harder than dodging weapons. Hindsight is always 20/20 tho
@@m3mori I used her in predominantly physical classes which is why I didn’t raise her Reason. With her using lances, it was important for her not to miss or she’d die or Hit+20 or Uncanny Blow was definitely essential. Though I’m hindsight I’d probably go for Uncanny Blow since Valkyrie isn’t a bad class to be in for the mid game.
going dark flier instead of just generic bishop/ holy knight route on her was definately a great idea....like mariane dark flier with range+2 staff, thoron and hit +20 from archer go brrrr...deletes a unit per turn from like 6 spaces away. though I do like trickster/ dancer on her too...but dark flier is really the meta choice. as for her magic stat, it still scales decently well ...not like Lyssie's but still respectable. Endgame I still had like 55 magic on Lyssie and 48 on Marianne
I'm currently doing AM Maddening at Chapter 15. Decided to make Marianne a Dancer Dodgetank focusing on Swords. Sword Prowess Lv5, Sword Avo +20, Evasion Ring, Blue Lions Dancers Battalion, she's lv30 last I remember and has 95 Avoid, it's disgusting, she ends up being one of my best units to bait enemies, the unit you typically leave in the back due to frailty, I use as a Frontline bait unit and she does work too, if there's any terrain on the map, GG she's basically untouchable. I was doing the Mercedes and Caspar paralogue and there were like 3 Snipers and 3+ Heroes trying to go for her and all of them had 0 hit. Was great. I don't go for Alert Stance since I'd rather not waste her Player Phase.
Most people: *Recruits Marianne because she’s good in battle* Me: *Recruits Marianne because I want a homosexual relationship, and if I can’t have that, I’ll boost her self-esteem*
Question, what are your thoughts on dancer Marianne? In fact, a video on who makes the best dancers for which routes and why would be really interesting.
Seconded! I wanna hear about the splendor of dancer Ferdinand :) I enjoyed using him a lot but I couldn’t tell if I was overrating it compared to other options
just get yuri /end? a perfect dancer would also either double as an off healer or have a bunch of feats you would need to grind to do vantage wrath or at least vantage high crit enemy phasing once they dance and wait. yuri is perfect cause you cannot beat canto on a ground unit - which a dancer is. also he naturally goes merc for vantage early and can use high crit sword to evade and crit enemies to death in off phase
@@mqlando9480 well, at least the way I was approaching it was, I don't have DLC, and not everyone has DLC, so looking at the options for each route with that considered could be helpful
@@WhimsyHeath for GD I would recruit Bernie since Marianne is too valuable as a second offensive mage. And you don't need Bernie as you have best bow knights of Leonie+Shamir anyways. BL Mercedes to make her more than just a healer or Ingrid ...considering in house Ingrid growth rates not great *better to recruit petra or hilda for falcon knight duties here. But Ingrid has sword+riding boon so that's good. BE recruit Marianne if you don't have dlc or you wish to Make Ferdi Wyvern Master...but Ferdi is good too for it.
Marianne is a big reason why I kinda wish they had swapped the magic focus of the dark flyer and the trickster. I have made her a dark flyer several times and I find myself usually using physic or silence cause in the late game you often fight on huge maps with lots of terrain and with the flying ability she can provide support across a huge surface area. At the same time the trickster is usually on their own or fighting in cover so offensive magic is more useful.
Ah Marianne. A fundamentally fantastic unit who has the unfortunate problem of being over shadowed by the far flashier Lysithea and Constance. Keep in mind, if your going dark flier use darting blow. It’s surprising how many enemies she can double in that class, with little to no speed investment. And of course she’s best girl.
@@JonoabboFE Thanks for clearing that up! It was something that I was never sure how it worked lol, I'll take it into account when I use Marianne :) Your pfp is also very nice!
It is worth training your mages in Heavy Armor to pick up Weight -3 because of the awful decision to make spells have weight. Their lack of Combat Arts and secondary effects (for Black Magic) really puts them at a severe disadvantage compared to weapons, so if you have a dedicated offensive mage (usually a Dark Mage), anything that can help their potential damage output is very useful, allowing them to double enemies or avoid being doubled without the perk. Hopefully the next Fire Emblem game isn't so weighted against Mages. They were much more powerful in Awakening and Fates when weapon weight wasn't a thing.
I still dont think this is ever really worth doing - even the fastest units in 3H struggle to double in a lot of scenarios, and Marianne will be so far off of the doubling threshold the amount it will make a difference is basically never worth the investment. There are also far better ability options to run (Black Magic & Lance Prowess, Mag +2, Fiendish Blow, H20/Uncanny blow) that even if you did pick this up, I dont think there is space for it.
@@JonoabboFE Oh for sure. I meant offensive mages specifically (if you ever bother with them). Support Mage Speed might as well be a dump stat. You're never using them for dedicated offense and they shouldn't be taking hits in the first place. As much as I'm a fan of the "I'm a healer, but..." meme, it really doesn't work in this game.
@@LAZERAK47V2 Outside of New game + shenanigans where you can experiment more and spend renown, it's not worth doing. You definitely don't want to prioritize axes and armor on a fresh save file.
“Marianne is not exactly a frontline tank.” How could you write a statement this wrong? ===== Jokes aside, great vid. We love our Marianne frozen lance juggernaut. Second best combat mage.
Yup, all this cavalier and flier shit seems like too much work. I use the other units in GD for killing stuff. Priest/Bishop, Silence (somebody has to protect best tank Raphael from the demonic mages,) Physic, and Thoron is about all I ever really want out of her, so I generally go faith, some reason (until Thoron,) and then riding to try and get the +1 move. I think my first time through GD I made her a holy knight, but that class seems like such a meme to me now.
@@m3mori TF is a balthus. JK but FR I don't do DLC so I literally have no clue about those classes or characters, despite having played through the game twice on maddening even after the DLC came out lol
