Informative and detailed, yet easy to understand, amazing work on the 2020 - 450 Motocross Shootout! I truly enjoy they way you have gone over what the bike felt like to each individual rider, as well as their statistics, (height, weight, skill level, and preferred riding style). It is easy to compare my stats, skill level, riding style, and preferred bike handling characteristics with that of a similar test rider and see how they ranked each machine and why. This is the comparison I look for when choosing a new race bike for the season. Keep up the amazing work Michael Lindsay! I look forward to the upcoming comprehensive rundowns on the rest of the 2020 line-up from this shootout!

I absolutely love my 2020 YZ450F, I just got back into riding this year and my old RMZ450 finally died. This thing is a beast, and as been nothing but great for me to get back into it.

I got the 2019 yz450. First thing I did was change out the inner cartridges on front forks to ohlins slip in, plus an ohlins rear shock. Added a gpr4 under handle bar stearing stabalizer for the small head shake this bike produces. Yoshi full system added alot of overall low, mid, and high range to this bike. Definitely play with the tuner, I have an amazing set up for my elevation (over 5k). One thing I didnt know with the tuner app is you can adjust the throttle position percentage of when the fuel is delivered which made a huge difference.

The most detailed test that I have seen so far. I live in Southern Oregon and the vast majority of people that buy a 450 here don’t race it . The trails around here are very steep up and down and a bunch of people ride 450’s . The dune riders prefer them also. Could you also test some slow trail riding? Like which bike is less likely to stall or overheat when going slow? Trails with massive hill climbs and and dune riding are way more popular than motocross around here.

The way you described the bike really allowed me to determine if it's got the attributes that I'm looking for in a bike, also that you had an older guy test as well, It so happens I'm an older guy too, given his size skill level and his willingness to hit big jumps have me a more clear understanding of how I would interpret the bike. I remember 1986 all the magazines claimed the Honda cr125 handled good, but to me it was the worst out of any of the bikes of that time.

Buy the bike 1Great suspension 2Engine 3Quality parts and long service life is very important. Ergos can always be played with. I always ride with Renthal twinwall and glue on soft grips. Always ride with a high seat foam and set levers in the attack position so standing is more important than sitting, so critical in deep sand towards the end off the race.

@kellienicolebrooksschettin6598
When u don't have to make changes that means they really did their suspension home work,I raced and just throwing a valving kit at a fork doesn't do it for and less they really dialed it in,so much more goes into that,I had my first race bike it was a national contested 125cc,and it is still the best suspension bike I ever raced,it was a 1990 KX 125,that long ago so that's how good it was.later I worked at the shop that did the mods....but it was my bench mark....from that day forward.ironically it got it big adjustments late in the evening at GATORBACK PARK nite before the national,that place is concrete its a rock quarry,old one...hats off to YAMAHA,that's what I road raced...but just never had a chance to race the brands,THANKS nice job...

Mike, love your vids bro. IMO I think other than the rock solid motor and the SSS suspension, I cannot see how an overweight, very wide and noisy from the cockpit bike won.
@MichaelLindsay
@MichaelLindsay 4 года назад
The CRF’s loud exhaust bothered riders more than the YZF’s intake noise. The wide comment is interesting as the radiator shrouds on a KTM are actually wider, but yes the point at which the YZ begins to curve of the extra plastic around the shroud area doesn’t make it feel as slim as some other models. As for the weight, it is lighter than the Suzuki and on-par with the Honda. I explain in one of our testing videos recently how physical weight does or doesn’t effect riding impressions. In our case, on West Coast, we flow more section to section as the dirt doesn’t allow for as aggressive motions, meaning we aren’t doing as much physical work. Also, the engine character gives the bike a lighter feel as the reaction and connection of the power can be used to manipulate the bike. While the KTM and Husky are physically light, their lazy power character gives the bike a heavier feel in most situations.
@mxracer158
@mxracer158 4 года назад
@@MichaelLindsay I'm confused. You say lighter feeling yet heavier is heavier. Of course torque is going to create the illusion that the bike is lighter but the truth comes down to physics. Greater weight in motion is greater work for the weaker break system on the Yamaha to stop it. I can see what you mean from your videos. The tracks out there look sun baked, hard packed and to me not. a lot of fun to ride. My last real dirt I can speak to is Budds Creek MD. Long story short to each their own but again imo heavier is just plain heavier. Keep up the great reviews bro.

Love the info, it would be cool to have a little bit of detail on what you would do aftermarket to make the bikes plush and track well. I'm looking forward to the Kx450 video. I plan on buying one, I own a 2013 kx450f right now with a bunch of stuff done to it like ride engineering triples and lower link. No matter my fork position or clicker adjustment I cant find a plush spot in the fork with the ride height i like it always feels like a stink bug under braking. Its either diving and bottoms of bigger hits or super stiff and tends to ware me out fast. Also it doesn't like slower rebound on hard pack the front always wants to wash out under acceleration. I would just send it in to have it professionally done but i plan on doing that to my new bike if I feel it needs it.

I feel your pain. I'm finally comfortable on the craziest setup for an 06 Suzuki RMZ 450. I'm 5'9 194lbs, front resprung and shimmed for a 230lb rider, back 105mm, the spring is stock but shimmed for 230lb rider, front compression 2 clicks out, rebound 5 clicks in, back compression 2 clicks out, rebound 5 clicks in, low and high speed are both dead center.
@Owneddd1
@Owneddd1 5 лет назад
Wow, thats pretty crazy man, I'm 6ft around 185 when i have full gear on and I'm running 35 pounds up front low speed 4 clicks in and rebound 2 clicks from all the way out other wise it wont track on hard pack and i end up sliding out. My rear shock runs near stock I got half turn in on high speed, 2 clicks in on low and 2 clicks out on rebound. its about as comfortable as i can make it. If anyone has advise on a setting they use i would very much appreciate it.
@TheMaster5150
@TheMaster5150 5 лет назад
@@Owneddd1 You need to fork out some money and get your suspension redone. "Pun" added. I'd asked around at the tracks for a good local suspension guy that's what I did...best decision I made. Or you can call one of the top suspension companies. Tell them what's going on, send your suspension in and they will set it up accordingly to your weight, skills, and problems.
