Yay! More old buildings that are being heavily renovated are modernizing or replacing their old, efficient elevator system with something more efficient! *(JK, I am going to miss these elevators a lot! Why don't building owners keep the existing elevator system or just upgrade the system to be compliant with today's safety code?)*
What in the HELL is happening to America's historic building charm disappearing? All of these elevators that are 60 years or older are now disappearing, and being replaced with new technology that I sadly know will not be as good as the originals. RIP old Otis Autotronic (1954-2019). After 65 years of exceptionally great quality and service, they will now be missed.
Completely agreed. Very well said.... And yes, this is totally what we do best in America.... First the Macy's/Kauffman's in Pittsburgh, and now this....
As much as I hate mods, let's give this a chance. I can't imagine the renovation of an old, art deco bldg. wouldn't include keeping a lot of the existing elements. The mod sucks to us who like old elevators... BUT the fact the bldg. is being saved & repurposed is wonderful! By comparison, the 29 story Sterick Bldg. in Memphis has been boarded up since 1984. 35 years later Loews is turning it into a hotel. Another that comes to mind is the Hall of Justice in Los Angeles... closed 1994-2015. L A County restored and reopened the gorgeous bldg. So let's see how Starks turns out first. We'll miss the old elevators but the mod might be tasty... who knows?
I guess you have a good point, although I was told EVERYTHING in the building is being replaced and the building was being totally gutted when this was taken....
@@jacksonslaterelevatorraila6444 Both me and Andrew have tried contacting them for parts and we haven't gotten a reply. You'd just have to go in the back door like I did and ask.
I'm going to try if Andrew doesn't get a reply from the manager soon. I told him about this and he messaged the real estate company that owns the place now.
Try going in the backdoor through the alleyway like I did to access the building, and ask if you can ride them or see them. That's what i did, and you may be able to ride if they aren't doing any asbestos work like they were at this time, but idk....
And yeah, I know this is incredibly sad... There are some other vintage elevators in Louisville, but these were the only ones with Original Touch Buttons from Otis....
