The Supreme Court acknowledged that it inadvertently posted a document online related to a case deciding whether emergency room doctors in Idaho could perform abortions. The court has not rendered its decision officially.

A politician has legal and moral authority to make law and enforce those laws. A justice of the Supreme Court of the United States has the legal and moral authority to decide if a law or other legal act is or is not compatible with the Constitution of the United States. A physician has knowledge of science.

Okay, but allowing emergency abortions (for example when the fetus has died in utero etc. and we could save the mother or just stand by and watch her become septic and die needlessly) only makes sense. Why are we all acting like this is some huge bombshell? In utero death unfortunately isn't as rare as people would like. Must we really add more to the tally of lives lost, regardless of how you feel about abortions in other cases? This should be a no-brainer..

If the baby is already dead, there is no possible way to get an abortion. You can get the body removed, but legally and medically that is not an abortion.

Extricating a deceased fetus from the mother's body is not an abortion. An abortion or termination means to abort or terminate something which is continuous by definition. An ended life has already stopped, so if the baby's life has ended the baby's life and mother's pregnancy has ended and is not possible to stop (because that has already been stopped).

States should decide...period...like Roe v Wade should never have been a federal issue or law. It was not meant to be! States can decide for themselves what is legal or illegal in their state. The only way a woman's life is in jeapardy is if there is infection/sepsis...uncontrolled bleeding or ectopic pregnancy which is not a viable pregnancy since the fetus is implanted in a fallopian tube...not in the uterus...and will breach the tube causing death.

That is wildly over simplified. Among other things, the case in question is regarding pregnancies that have taken a turn and are putting the mother’s health at medical risk. In most situations relevant to this SCOTUS case, these are pregnancies that the mother and family very much wanted.

⁠this is an inane and frankly ignorant position. As a board certified and residency trained EM physician, performing abortions is not part of our training or our certification. And frankly would be a huge risk for malpractice if indeed did perform these procedures. The medical board of CA would investigate me for practicing outside of my scope. Now if a woman is having a life threatening emergency such as vaginal bleeding when pregnant and products of conception early embryo is “hanging” out of the cervix I will remove these tissues to stop the bleeding. I do not and am not trained to perform abortions or known in the medical community as voluntary interruption of pregnancy ie abortion as “treatment” of an unwanted pregnancy.
