It's me!! I suggested this video! Im flattered! The point of this video is that I follow a lot of relaxed girls here in RU-vid and you're the only one who doesnt follow the trends, yet you enjoy your hair like no other and I wanted you to make a video about everything you dont do so others can see that maybe they can try something different. I know everyone 's hair is different but a lot of girls dont enjoy their hair at all, they follow regimen that imply daily moisturizing and sealing, hair always in a bun and sometimes they admit they are tired, they need a break and when I discovered your channel I was pretty shocked. Thank your for the video!! You summarize pretty well what your simple (yet effective) regimen is about.

Thank you for the suggestion! I realize after watching this video that some of these things I used to do but due to stress over the years and the subsequent "must do to have healthy relaxed hair", I started down a path I wish I hadn't gone down. I was close to waist length back then.. (cryingggg on the inside) and now I'm a little past shoulder length with a lot of work to do. I've been trimming here and there to at least keep my hair even, but I'm definitely going to go back to the basics/tips from this video.

1. I don't pre poo except for when I use Olaplex. 2. I don't use oils on my hair, on my scalp, or add oils to conditioners. A great conditioner should work on it's own without adding things to it. 3. I don't use food on my hair. My hair is not a salad or burrito 🤣 4. I stopped deep conditioning. I follow the time on products. 5. I don't co wash. It just doesn't make sense to me. I use sulfate shampoos. 6. I don't moisturize and seal. 7. I wear my hair down everyday. 8. I don't air dry my hair after washing it. I blow dry and flat iron once a week. My hair is in better condition since I've been keeping it simple.

I’m glad you mentioned protective styling because there’s a myth that it’s the only way for black women to grow their hair long. I never protective styled when I was natural and it still grew. I don’t do it now relaxed and my hair is still growing 🤷🏾‍♀️
@DolceDawn

Just relaxed my hair after being an on and off again natural for the past 10 years. Your hair looks great! I'm at a point where I didn't grow all this hair to keep it hidden. I've been wearing braidouts since I relaxed which is why I did it in the first place. I wanted a braidout without shrinkage!
@DolceDawn

You rebel Dolce Dawn! LOL!! I have to admit that you have saved me a lot of money on excess product, time and energy by bringing this practical sense back. I love it! These are the exact guide lines so many stylist swear by. Wrapping is really keeping that moisture in...even though I am still on the struggle bus with this short hair, I still wrap it every night and every workout. I must say that I do still use a half wig but mainly because I really miss my hair. I am trimming a lot more and sticking to my schedule. TY for your honesty and approach to healthy relaxed hair....we are finally enjoying our hair again!!! Listening to our "talking hair"

Such a helpful video! Laughing at the end. I just relaxed my hair after having super buzzed hair for years. I grew out my hair for 8.5 months. I had done growth cycles before, but I got overwhelmed usually around month 4 by a lot of RU-vid naturals and would end up shaving. This time around when I didn't mess with 800 products my hair did soo well. Good shampoo, good conditioner, and 100% mango butter. Rarely deep conditioned. Oh, and I did the infamous wash-and-go on 4c hair. I never did twist outs because it took forever and I believed it was good to appreciate the shrunken state. All the things you're told not to do. And my hair thrivedddd. (I think wearing a bonnet every night, without fail, or even when I laid down on the couch to watch tv helped immensely.) Sooo I'm trying to remember to just keep it simple and LISTEN to my hair now that it's relaxed, rather than a certain type of RU-vidr who is proclaiming to love something...and then 3 months later being onto something new. You're right - your hair will tell you real' quick what it doesn't like.

I have been watching a lot of different hair relaxer videos and I must say that I’m soooooo glad that YOU made this video, because some people seem to be a part of the blind leading the blind. I like all of your hair Don’ts…especially 1. Co-Washing…I mean damn why did people have to start this ridiculous fad/trend? You shouldn’t WASH your clothes with just fabric softener, or WASH your body with lotion, so why on earth would you WASH your hair with conditioner?? 2. Moisturizing & Sealing 3. Protective Styles (NOT enjoying the fruits of their labor). 4. Not trimming their hair more often. I’m glad that you’ve explained this and I guess that I’m a rebel like you. YOUR hair is gorgeous, keep up the good work and THANKS for posting!

First here and loving the nails and the advice! I do use argan oil after a leave in and moisturizer but I wash every other week and do not add any additional products. The only exception is if I get wet by rain. I also wrap every night and find my hair stays moisturized and moveable. I feel the same way re co-wash, honestly makes no sense IMO. I have fine strands with medium density and after years of doing all these things and yet another hair cut this past weekend I'll be cutting out a bunch of stuff and treat my hair like relaxed hair as I was told. I use precise relaxer in mild just like you and like it. I don't see much difference or hair on my head when I deep condition so will be cutting it out this stretch and assess the progress. I rollerset weekly and love the body it gives my fine strands but I get breakage no matter what I use, so I will be either partially dry underneath the dryer and flat iron or blow dry and flat iron and assess as well. This video just confirmed some of the things I need to cut out as it has not been helping my hair journey

My scalp is always so dry after washy/relaxing. I think it’s thirsty, so I oil it …then it’s weighed down until next wash. I HATE THAT!!!! I’m paying attention more to my regimen and adjusting my products accordingly. Hopefully, this will help & I won’t feel so necessary for the additional moisturizing. It’s all about finding the right rotation of products and it sounds like you’re trying to do just that. Do you think your neutralizing shampoo is too harsh? @@DolceDawn Thank you so much! I really appreciate your prompt reply … So I’ve been using Olaplex #3 for a Leave-in, I do wrap my hair but I was using a traditional cotton scarf, I just picked up a couple of satin ones. I wash & condition with olaplex (Sally knock off= Bondbar & agebeautiful ultrabond) I oil my scalp with ‘ORS’ Olive oil hair dress. I actually was just about to relax (just for me/regular) but it’s only been about 4weeks, so I’m taking your advice & waiting another month. I noticed I’m trimming more often as well and I’m dryer than normal, I’m hearing menopause could cause it. I purchased new shears, a new flat iron (Remington/ceramic), and got knew olaplex … trying to attack these issues. Oh also, I used design freedom for the first time in awhile (today was wash day), wrapped my hair and I’m letting it air dry. The hair dryer always drys me out so much & I end up with a ton of breakage. Sorry, I feel like I’m purging.. lol. I know it’s alot. I really appreciate your assistance and advice. Thank you in advance. The neutralizing shampoo, comes with the relaxer… that’s the only time I use it. I plan on switching to precise-mild.

@@bethharris6534 You’re right that getting older can cause your hair to be drier. Both blow drying and air drying can make it drier, depending on the products you’re using. But it sounds like you’re on your way to trying to figure it all out… and we will! By the way, I wouldn’t use Olaplex 3 as a leave-in as it wasn’t intended for that use. It’s a bond builder that’s supposed to be used up to 10mins to help restore damaged hair. I would, instead, invest in a good leave-in conditioner that is going to protect and bring moisture to your strands. I do have a video in my Building Your Regimen that offers some great options, if you’re interested. Oh, and if you end of trying Precise, let me know how you like it. Please and thank you! 😉

As I think back, I did try to go bk light (honey blonde) the week before the Super Bowl, and quickly remembered why I stopped coloring in the first place. I could never achieve what I desired without bleach & I refuse to bleach so I went black and vowed to stay here… until I didn’t… anyway, I got HOT ROOTS, said to heck with it and the next day did a red filler and dyed it black 🤦🏽 . I’m probably experiencing the after effects of that!!!! So I’m playing damage control at this point. (I always use a booster in ANY chemical process, I definitely oil my scalp before I put anything chemicals on my hair along with the ion booster, & olaplex #6, along with whatever pre protection the relaxer kit provides). Protect, protect, protect… my motto) I will definitely let you know how I like precise. Thank you so much again for your help. You ROCK

Y when we was growing up our mom did none of this and my hair grew and was healthy. Now we need all of this. Blue magic and beaugamont grease was all we had. Pressing on Saturday for church on Sunday. Paper bag rollers. Plastic rain scarf. Combed hair every night for school.

Hey, Nellie! YESSS! When I was a kid, I didn’t have a relaxer; it was all about the press ‘n’ curl and grease/Vaseline. No more, no less. And when we ran out of rollers, we used paper bag strips, too. #Samesies! Had healthy hair for days! Just goes to prove that simple really is best.

Dolce your hair is so beautiful! I am so jealous! :) I have a question for you. I just learned that we are not supposed to relax bonestraight but only about 85%? I self relax with no lye and Because I am a little slow at applying my relaxers most of my hair get bone straight by accident. Is there anything I can add to my relaxer to slow down the process? If so , how much would you suggest?? Thanks
@DolceDawn
@DolceDawn 3 года назад
Hey, Mickey XOXO! THANK YOU! ♥️ Who told you to only relax to 85% and did they say why? Even when you relax the full amount of time or “bone straight”, you will still have texture left in your strands. Have you been having issues with having fully relaxed hair?

I totally agree with you regarding certain regimens that others follow. I also question the co-washing. I also would be swinging my hair back and forth if I had your hair. I would want to enjoy and appreciate the health and length if my hair. I also only use serums, moisturising weighs my hair down and I often get approached by other lovely women about how I get the swing and bounce to my hair. I actually use heat in my hair nearly everyday, I don't do the circula wrap as it causes breakage so I bump my hairs where needed each day on a low heat. Trims are a girls best friend when it comes to the health of our hair. Love a good trim😍. Will be trimming mine when I relax it this weekend.

Hey, cfoster6804! I totally understand your frustration. I have a couple of vids - “Growing Pains: My Hair Story”, “Hair BnB” and “Essential Minerals For Healthy Hair” to name a few - that touch on anemia and the things that helped me overcome it. I can tell you that blackstrap molasses helped my condition immensely because of both its iron and copper content. Hoping the vids help as well as the guidance of your physician to help get you back on track. Please keep me updated. ♥️

@DolceDawn
@DolceDawn 3 года назад
Hey, JDL Raheema! You’re so welcome! Oils are naturally derived from plants, vegetables, nut and fruits while serums are made up of synthetic “oils” or lubricants called silicones. Both can be used as a hair polish or finisher; however, serums are arguably more versatile in that they’re better at fighting frizz (because of their moisture locking abilities) as well as a more stable and efficient heat protectant because of their ability to withstand higher temperatures.
