this is one of your best videos. your current HW setup looks very dialed in ! I am impressed by the RK sequencer. I was in your Patreon group over covid and the people were great, and it really helped me progress musically. I had a lot of trouble at the time narrowing down to a style and a genre and it really worked on my brain and I feel like it made my music interesting but not able to be characterized and I left the group to focus more on making songs using the same HW setup. This was a very productive time and couldn't have happened without the time spent in your Patreon group. you are a bit of an unsung genius and a really good producer with great taste and great skills.

See to me you don’t choose a style or genre unless you’re only doing it for work. At the end of the day it’s music! Express “You”! That’s where you’ll find the difference in sound between something commercial and something epic.

And because it's music, getting better at it means picking a direction and perfecting it to a point where you can then stray away from. Window Shopping and sampling different directions can work but sooner or later you're going to want to make something that is 'something' instead of just endlessly noodling around without ever finishing anything.

I missed this premier because I was entranced by a YT vocal analysis of Pink Floyd's Great gig in the sky, a song that always makes this 57 year old ex-roadie tear up a little. For a first piece of gear I would suggest something like the volca sample 2, using samples allow you to try out different genres without wasting a gear purchase, samplers can be used with any style.

If you want to do acid house/techno the t8 from roland makes a good first synth/drum machine.
