This video is SO helpful. Due to have my second in February and I never knew of Second Night Syndrome until now! It’s what cut my breastfeeding journey short because I was so discouraged that my daughter wasn’t eating enough and it just made things so hard especially being a first time mom. I was cut up pretty bad and I just couldn’t do it, but if I knew of this being a thing earlier I would’ve been more mentally prepared and knew that this is normal. Thank you so much for posting this and spreading awareness - I plan on breastfeeding this baby and I’m doing more research now. Just know you helped someone tremendously today, so thank you again. ❤

@@Maddiealta Hi, just an update from my end! Had my son 2-12-24 and have been successfully breastfeeding since ❤ Is it easy? No. I went into sepsis 2 weeks postpartum from Mastitis and I was in the hospital for almost a week and I was so sure my BF journey was at an end because my MIL was giving baby a bottle. However, when I got home he latched and we’ve been back at it since! To any expecting mamas, LISTEN TO THESE WONDERFUL TIPS! I’ll ALWAYS recommend this video from now on to everybody.

Thank you so much for these tips. I'm expecting my second baby this year. My first was born over 5 years ago and I had so much difficulty with breastfeeding that I chose to pump exclusively for 9 months. Now I have a work-from-home job, so I'm determined to give breastfeeding a stronger, more educated try this time. These tips, especially about the nipple shield details, etc. are SO helpful. Thank you for creating this video!

Thanks for these tips. I’m due for a second baby in Jan 2025 and will be using these. I didn’t have a great breastfeeding experience the first time, my nipples even bled and had blisters. I quit after 2.5 months 😢

I wished I watched this video sooner. I just had my twins three weeks ago and I stopped breastfeeding because I wasn’t getting a big supply to feed both and having to pump and supplement with formula was just too much for me. But I wished I knew this sooner because ow my milk supply has gone away 😢

You can still get your supply back! Get a lactation consultant! They help so much!

It’s like a manual breast pump. It operates by hand

In those first two weeks, did you pump right after each feeding or did you pump and breastfeed at different time?

I’m curious about this too!

Sorry I didn't reply sooner! With my first, I pumped after I fed my baby. However, I don't advise this because it was so difficult to keep up and I think it threw off the natural patterns because for instance, my baby would need to feed an hour after I pumped basically and then I didn't have the little milk in there she needed so then I'd have to give her a bottle! It was a vicious cycle. What I did with my SECOND, was so much better. I did NOT pump until I got home from the hospital. ONLY like at the witching hour which they cluster feed like 6-9pm or so, and my husband would give the bottle. I'd try to start right before she needed it and then feed her that milk. In the hospital also on my second, what helped me was I used my haakas and I gave my baby the haaka milk via syringe. That way I didn't have to store it and it gave her a little hunger boost to sleep better!

So basically I didn't pump after every feed like some people tell you to do. Unless you like can't get your milk in after a week, or baby won't latch at all or something. Otherwise all that time of you and baby on the breast improves that natural supply and demand relationship throughout and really starts to set it in stone like how much your baby actually needs. Introducing the pump too much unnecessarily really throws that off. I was doing so much work pumping and feeding and it was horrible with my first. Our moms didn't even have pumps pretty much! So it can def be done without :)

This may seem like an crazy or stupid question but when you used the haakaa in the hospital how/ where did you store that milk. When did you start giving baby breast milk from the bottle.

I suggest within the first week to try a bottle! It's like barely anything while you're in the hospital since your milk really isn't in so it's more for stimulation at that point. Any that I got I think I have to baby in the hospital in a syringe just for a little appetite boost. That went well!

Thank you for replying! This makes sense. I plan to use the haakaa, just was trying to figure exactly when I should start. I've been reading and hearing the suggestion is not to introduce the bottle until week 4. If baby is latching well I may start week 2.
