Breathtaking Abandoned Gilded Age Mansion *Burned Down A week before Auction

Historic old mansion built in 1911. Tons of incredible old architecture and old details left. Beautiful hand carved wooden staircase with a balcony and more. Marble fireplaces. Unfortunately in early 2023 the mansion was burned down a week before it went up for auction. Filmed this a few years ago and never released the video hoping the mansion could be saved one day but unfortunately that day didn’t come. Whether it was on purpose or accidental it’s a true shame that this landmark national historic registered house is nothing but brick walls and shell now. This is one of the most heartbreaking places too watch now and I’m sorry I didn’t do a better video on the house at the time it was filmed. Thank you for watching

To burn down right before an auction, sounds suspicious to say the least. Did they ever find out who torched that beautiful and historic home? I would imagine the owners, would be the first place to look.

Wow. “Holy cow!” is right! That place was stunning! That staircase alone was a work of art, not to mention the massive ornately designed fireplaces. The craftsmanship in this house was off the charts. This has got to go in the top five. So glad you were able to document this one, and how devastating it was lost to fire. There was so much of value and beauty that could have been rescued. 😢 So glad you captured it. ❤

Too bad another grande old dame bit the dust, but at least you did get to make a video of it. I was happy to see that the urban destroyers limited themselves to just tossing the possessions around and kept breakage and graffiti to a minimum. Despite the mess it was really easy to visualize the splendor of the house with all that great workmanship and detail. Thanks, Kappy!

The Traxler mansion old for $41,000 June 1st. Fortunately the shell of the house was strong enough to withstand the heat. Probably all that sandstone corner cladding that buffered by providing a thermal blanket during the intense fire. In 1941 this structure became a boarding house and divided into 22 apartments.

The disrespect of this beautiful old house is disgusting. For people to fill it with trash, deface it with graffiti, and deliberately damage it and let it sit to rot and deteriorate is awful. Then, for it to be burned down (arson seems most likely) is the ultimate disrespect of both the house and of the people who owned it and those who might have tried to save it. And all for what? Hedonistic cheap thrills for stupid people who can't think of anything better to do with their time.

Wow, now this truly is an amazing structure! Can you say, or do you know the name of the department store that the family owned? Perhaps, the state? The pair of red upholstered sofas, and the tall gilded mirror on the stair landing at 4:46 are among some of the great furnishings here. Also, pink with black trim tile bathroom...definitely a classic look. And the exterior! Those limestone balustrades are removable..and reusable. Also, look at all those green, glazed terracotta tiles on the roof...much more costly than copper! All reusable details. I hope they saved at least some of the furniture and removable architectural fixtures before the fire. You did do a great service in showing this place and preserving views for the future.

Take heart! The auction sale finally went thru and there is hope for restoration. When owners are purposefully negligent for years it takes years for the legal steps to be taken by the city for salvaging sites like this. It is actually in a neighborhood that used to have many grand houses that fell to neglect and abandonment due to white flight and drug wars. So glad you have this video of one of my fave houses in this city where I worked in code enforcement for many years.

Never apologize for getting so excited over a house! It’s hard to concentrate what you’re there to do when it’s a literal treasure trove of days gone by. That staircase had me! Things don’t spontaneously combust days before they go up for auction! I often wonder what kind of parents raised their kids to think doing something like burning a house down is a good thing to do. Have you heard of the Abercrombie castle in the Hudson River Valley? Has been a hang out for many many years and vandals were at a minimum until last spring when someone torched part of it. 😡 The section that burnt contained what looked to be the library, as it had a ladder and the most beautiful woodwork you’ve ever seen! Now the only remnants left of the woodwork are on that upper level where the ladder is and very little is left. I’ve never been there but it’s not far from where I grew up and always heard it was a great place to see. Tons of videos on here about it and it’s definitely worth checking out! Thanks for unknowingly saving this house Kappy before stupidity happened.

I’m saddened that this video was so short. I wish you had taken more time going through this beautiful home . So many details that will never be seen again 💔

You did a great job of capturing it! Your filming style makes me feel like I was there. I love the momentary stills so we can take it all in, and your steady camera work as you move throughout the house. Nice work. Thank you.

Third floor was most likely the servant’s quarters. Anyone who owned a mansion like that would have had servants. What a beautiful mansion. Too far gone now to be restored unfortunately. Thanks for the tour! Btw, that one room that looked set up - squatters?

What a stunning house. Such a shame that it is abandoned 😞. I'm sure that this house was gorgeous back in the day. Thanks for sharing 👍 😀 😊

It’s sad that the craftsmen that produced that unique & beautifully carved banister likely remains nameless…. Thank you for sharing this!

Saludos Kap'n, I have a sneaking suspicion that even as aged this old beauty is, She likely sat upon a much older foundation that had either been buried by time, or some raging and malevolent force had taken that time to scour away just whatever did remain of theose exposed upper floors, above the dirtline and in the elements!....that is if it even were still around, "rest as ashes, dearly razed and departed, released from mortal coil". This place truly is Awesome! What a Special Place to call "Home"! Cheers to You and Yours! That includes your Little Lady who did sorta startle me when she let out a squeal once upstairs, as I made the assumption you were out exploring alone....because of Her cry of surprised excitement, I was the one that got himself spooked real good, and then; I nearly peed all over myself! Thanks; to Yous! No, but really.... Thank You for the Tour! What a Treat! CIAO

Just shows you how some standards like craftsmanship, metal work, furniture and just overall quality, used to be compared to what they are today. No cookie cutter houses back then like now, that's for sure. Thanks for showing.

Thank you for preserving the memory of this beautiful 1910 Mansion with this video🌹🌹. It is so sad that it burned down a week before being auctioned😢😢, which I find suspicious and I pray that fire investigator gets to the bottom of it all😠😠!!! My favorite parts of this Mansion that you have preserved are: the marble fireplace with mirror, staircase, the sink on the first floor bathroom is an antique, the red couches, flower wall paper trimming, and all the other antiques as much as the general Mansion. I really love videos like yours that explore abandoned buildings and I am grateful for your preserving their memory🌹🌹, but I feel sad that this beautiful Mansion was left to rot🖤🖤 and suspiciously burned down🖤🖤. And I was wondering, what was the name of the Department Store Owner in 1910 that this Mansion was build for?
