@@mercury6765 You have to be somewhat a marksman with a bow to do that. Rebollo flung the arrow on a perfect line with the cauldron, which had gas lines in it to help ignite the flame once it flew past. If the arrow was too high or low, it would have missed the gas line.

Beijing 2008 was apotheosis and extravagant on all sides, revealing the Chinese sentiment towards the western world of the bigger, taller and more massive the better. A multimillion-dollar show with masterful mass choreography conceived to leave everyone with their mouths open and to make China's ambition as an economic power very clear. I think nobody disputes that.

By comparison with the average Hollywood action movie, the money spent on these ceremonies (typical worldwide audience approximately a billion) is peanuts

Not as impressive as a nation that managed it just 3 years after WW2 ended whilst in the middle of rebuilding and rationing!

I would say the olympic openings and closings from 2000 up until 2008 I would say are mind-blowing. After the 2000s, pretty much it's been less spectacular as I got older. However, with the paris olympics occuring nearly 100 years after it was once hosted in 1924, considering two of the greatest athletics in track and field at that time which inspired the 1981 film Chariots of Fire, that has to be something special and a honor for paris, france to host it again on the same year as it occurred back in 1924.
