This is a short video I made for UNL, describing my approach to breeding for mite and disease resistance. Breeding stock and daughter queens are available for purchase through our online store. stevensbeeco.com
@@stevensbeeco767 Thank you for the clarification, and I will look forward to the continued updates. Is UNL looking to establish a resistance breeding research platform?
@@Hardmoney_Bees There was small talk of a VSH selection program at UNL, but not sure it will materialize. I’ve been working with VSH bees for over a decade personally, and am involved in John Harbo’s VSH breeding cooperative.
I’m working on a VSH selection video which will be part of UNL’s Master Beekeeping curriculum. I’ll post it to RU-vid when I wrap it up in the next few weeks.
We bee interesting to see how my survivor bees compare to yours for mite resistance next spring. I didn’t check for resistance in the fall, how long do I have to wait for checking for VSH in the spring?
If I remember correctly, the queen has to be laying in the colony for a good six weeks or so to let her offspring saturate the brood nest and for the workers to hit the appropriate age for the hygiene function to activate.
Went to your website and I don't see prices, just "out of stock". What does a queen cost and how far do you ship? If you don't ship to east coast, is there a place closer to us to order this type of queen?
