from what I understand, there are four lineages of neocaridina shrimps, ones that were originally bed to be red (cherries) ones that were bred to be brown and blue (Blue Diamond) and one that was bred to be yellow and green, and one to be black. There is also a sub species that makes pearl varieties (they cant breed with the others) They all started from Wild Type colouration. The colours that we see as red orange and blue are all variations on gene expression that are entirely recessive traits. Cherries (including sakuras, fire red, kanoko, red rili blue, blue rili, jelly blue, kohaku, and red taiwan) and orange neos (orange, orange rili, light orange, orange neon, pumpkin, and orange sakura) and oddly enough Variable green and Jade Green shrimps are ALL THE SAME LINEAGE, they will breed and produce colours similar to the parents because both sides of the family carry the recessive traits that create those colours, with dominant (wild type) traits being more of a mutation chance than a guarantee. Shoko, Chocolate, bloody mary (its actually a brown variant!) blue diamond, blue dream, and topaz are in the same lineage. so their breeding, similar to the largest and most diverse one, will have similar results for the same reasons. Deep blue, blue carbon rilli, blue velvet, black rose, carbon rili gold back, and carbon rili are from the same lineage, so same goes for them. Where Yellow, neon yellow, yellow rili, and yellow sakura, and some green flavours (more neon) are a very small very isolated family. if you cross the lineages of these shrimps, you have a far greater chance of losing the bright colours because those recessive genes are two different sets of recessive gene expressions. and the dominant wild type colouration will appear as a result. Any of the pearl varieties (blue pearl, white pearl, amber pearl are a different subspecies of Neocardina (not davidi, its like palomona or something) and they CANNOT interbreed with your davidis
@jhndr0nia
@jhndr0nia 4 месяца назад
Much information however, only very few traits actually follow the Mendelian rules like you explain here with dominant/recessive inheritance since they are controlled by more than one gene (locus to be more precise) Neocaridina palmata is simply another species within the genus Neocaridina. For binomial names in zoology, the first indicates the genus, second the species (and the third if present, the subspecies)
@jhndr0nia
@jhndr0nia 3 месяца назад
@@quinncreel6091 Please do better research yourself before you try to educate others. You are partially right regarding the definition of a locus but it is used in the very same context I used it. Locus refers to a part of a chromosome or genome, it doesn't have to be a gene however.

I really wanna try something like that in the future, because it is so interesting! I also suggest looking up some neocaridina color breeding chart. It definitely depends on what linebreeding the colors came from first. The further apart they are, the more likely you will get just brown shrimp. Like for example yellow shrimp come from a completely different wild type than red. That's why you end up with a lot of wild type ones when crossing them. Blue jelly, orange, orange rili and green come from the red cherry shrimps, so they are more closely related and you get less brown. The blue dreams/ blue diamonds on the other hand come from wild chocolate colored shrimp. You cross them with yellow, you again end up with brown ones. If you cross them with red, you have chance of producing totally black shrimp or even black rili and blue black rilis. It's so cool :D

Cool experiment to share. I crossed 7 color and pattern variants. Some more interesting than others. I now have 30+ colonies continuing to breed. Some second and third generation crosses, of which I have no way of tracking, the results start becoming more interesting, with wildtype shrimp with colored patterns and highlights. The Neo colors all seem to stem from 4 main bloodlines. Red shrimp and blue shrimp can both occur in different bloodlines or come from the same one. Your resulting cross will depend on those bloodlines. I have produced several "weird" ones, the most standout being a "snot green jelly". Not exactly the most appealing. Keep experimenting.

Out of my 4 tanks 2 have shrimp, one tank has red cherry and the other has blue jellies, I've never mixed them But The blue jelly tank has so much variation in color there are some super dark one that almost look black and some really light. That's to be expected it whatever right The cool thing in my opinion is that in the red cherry tank I know for a fact I have never added any other shrimp of any other color. And these are more consistent but sometimes rarely ill get a super dark one but even more rarely a yellow will pop up. It always an amazing surprise when I see the yellow it insane

Interesting experiment. I have done something similar, have a 29 gallon with multiple colors of all kinds placed in there about 2-3 years ago. They've thrived. I did wind up with a lot of green colored wild-looking shrimp, some browns, and a whole lot of cinnamon (I guess cherry red but much more diluted). I still see some solid colors here and there, especially red and blue with black splotching, plus some rillis. Interestingly, there is one color type that seems to be dominant in this tank- the blue/black shrimp. I have a bunch of these very dark blue-black solid color shrimp still and they're still going strong.

My orange shrimp are definitely breeding the fastest for me. I’ve had my blue dream shrimp the longest and have had breeding, but not as fast as the orange and they seem more sensitive than the orange. My cherry shrimp seem to be pretty robust and hardy. I don’t know if they have bred or not. They are in a 125 gallon heavily planted tank with a ton of smaller fish. I’m sure they have probably bred, but the babies may be getting eaten. I haven’t had them long about to really tell. There is enough plants and hiding spaces though so I’m sure if they are breeding some will survive

I do see the occasional wild color shrimps that people talk about but they just don’t overwhelm the aquarium like the Internet says it will. It’s also worth noting that I will occasionally see a random color pop out of my red cherry, shrimp colonies. I’ve seen green and blue and the wild color. Cross breeding different coloured Neo shrimps do cause their offspring to revert back into their wild forms, which is what most people know as "brown/dark green/dull" coloured shrimps. This is due to most of their defined genetics being diluted over time. For this to happen, it would likely bring you into minimally F10++ generations before it takes place. P.S. Do note that these wild dark green variants are different from what the rest of the hobby know as Jade Green shrimps. Any wild variant, regardless of whether it's dull or brown or dark green, usually have unevenly coated bodies which are not fully opaque. There will also be "lighter spots" around the bodies, similar to humans having moles. Hope this helps to clarify. Also, keep up the good work, great videos!

After a long while, they ended up all the way to fire red grades!! Awesome in itself but then after a another year, out of nowhere, I had a yellow shrimp!! Just in one colony ofc. A pure yellow shrimp, it was so cool. Eventually the yellow shrimp bred, and there were both yellow, and red. They made some oranges on the way but it would go back to the primary colours. The second colony that was only reds lowered in quality to maybe high Sakura grades. It was super interesting to observe
