I agree. I was actually torn between this watch, another PAM or the JLC Master Compressor.. It is on my long term list being I'm in process currently of getting the JLC from WUW.
+Captain Zed As a JLC superfan, I vote for that. If you already have a PAM, a Master Compressor feels like the natural choice. It's a very distinctive design that's as emblematic of its manufacture as the Type XX or any Laminar. But the JLC has the added appeal of being something of a sleeper classic in the making. Forum folks love these models, and I agree. A compressor-crown Memovox was the first Jaeger-LeCoultre I ever bought. Best, Tim
It's pretty, but I'm genuinely baffled by what the designers were thinking with that chronograph minutes subdial. They easily managed to cram 60 tick marks on the small seconds dial, so why couldn't they just put 30 tick marks on the minutes dial and make the thing infinitely easier to read? If I'm marking my time on top point bravo so I can calculate heading and speed corrections for point charlie, they last thing I need is another math problem just to decipher the chronograph.
+Richie P Hi Richie, in this case, the design was dictated entirely by historical precedent. As the original Breguet Type XX featured this exact minute counter for reasons of aviation utility, the 3800 and 3820 utilize the same layout. It's not a crude oversight or the by-product of some kind of arthouse fixation by a young Swiss designer. But functionally, I can see the concern from a modern user's perspective. Best, Tim

Bizarre watch: once the chrono button is pushed what register is actuated ? 15” in three minute increments…also the 24hr counter and that’s it ! The XXI at least has the center counter of an hour, however it has an am\pm register. Why ? To see if it’s day or night look out the window ! Phenomenal quality and a v good price on the second hand market. I’m just not used to the registers …
The second hand can be started and stopped by depressing the chronograph start/stop pusher above the crown. It can be reset when stopped with the lower pusher. Hans WatchBox Studios
WatchBox Studios sorry. I asked the wrong question. How do I stop the smaller seconds hand? Not the large chrono seconds hand connects to the hours and minute hands. I’ve tried releasing the crown to see if it hacks but It doesn’t. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my first question!!
