If I could somehow magically inherit the guitar skills of any living guitarist, it'd be Brent Mason (with Duke Levine a close second)...Brent's playing and musicality actually gets me high And he's such an excellent dude to boot Thanks for doing this Robert - what a privilege to spend such in depth, quality time with a true master

Brent is one of my favorite guitarist. As a kid I’d watch TNN on Saturday mornings and I’d see Brent shredding on his gray tele. I was totally enamored with his playing and I still am. I almost got his Valley Arts sig but I’m glad I waited because Fender did it right. I got mine soon after they were released. I got lucky with a lighter one at 7.76lbs because a lot of them tend to be heavier. I absolutely love its versatility. Robert great work👍.

One of many of my guitar heroes!! In my very humble opinion Danny Gatton, James Burton, Roy Clark and Brent Mason are top notch! There's obviously arguments for better players, but stylistically they're some of my favorites!!

He is legend!!! There are tele players that play their thing and do it well. Brent plays everything well and has more styles put together like speaking 10 different languages…. His guitar mastery is without a doubt the number one recorded sounds in history…. Steve Lukather is his Rock equal…. Just phenomenal how he plays!!! God Bless You Brent. You make us all look at our guitars differently knowing we can always do more!! Thank You!!

Great interview! Brent is such an incredible guitarist and that Tele is a classic. Almost reminds me of Joe Strummer’s class Tele, but with less wear and tear. I’ve watched tons of interviews with Brent and he’s such an easy going guy. It’s interesting to me how he gets kind of tongue-tied when he talks, almost a bit spacey, but his playing is always perfect; smooth, fast and effortless. Greatness.

I remember hearing “Pick It Apart” by Mark O’Conner on the New Nashville Cats album … and my jaw Dropped when Brent’s solo kicked in. Being more of a rock / metal guy growing up … the last time my jaw dropped like that was on Yngwie’s “As Above, So Below” solo in ‘83. Also seeing the Eat Em and Smile tour in 1986 with Vai and Sheehan. I miss that jaw dropping “what the F was That!” feeling. Wish we could bottle it. lol 😂

Brent is a legend. One of the numerous guitar players everyone has heard play, but nobody knows who they are. It's actually kind of sad, this guy dedicated a lifetime to guitar playing, most people has heard him play, almost nobody knows who he is. I point this out to all of my students learning guitar. I don't want to set unrealistic expectations. The truth is this, you can dedicate your life to your art, you may do amazing things, you may find yourself in amazing circumstances, nobody will know who you are or even remember your name. Be prepared for that if you work very hard. If you don't work hard enough, you'll get substantially less or possibly nothing. Go.

I was a metalhead into the US Army, went to Ft Jackson, came out a huge Alan Jackson fan and still am. I remember trying to play some and being stunned at how hard it was for me. I'm going to be singing Chatahoochie all day now... And that's fine by me. Awesome history lesson for me because I always think of country as session guitarists and I don't know them. Page doesn't count right? I have a lot to learn. Aha he hates treble lol, that explains the mini.

Thanks, Robert. My favorite guitarist! And to come to now that he's a Home Skooler - that's way cool. So many great solos from Brent, but one of my newest favorites is "The Things You Said To Me" by The Mavericks on the great "What a Crying Shame" album. If you haven't heard it - give it a listen. It's from 1:37 to 2:05 in the song. I'm not 100% it was BM, but I'd love for someone to confirm. It was so great in your video to be able to see and hear the real deal Tele. Woah!

This video offers some great insights into WHY you love the songs you do. Guitars and amps have actual personalities due to the source/quality of the materials and the construction of the electronics. Erik "Fingers" Ray (Gustafson - younger brother of Wylie of Wylie and the Wild West) refers to his guitars as having that "Tele spank". That's what he called the tone he chased when looking for electric solid bodies. With the right amp and pedals, you can build a versatile stable of tone fillies for getting out and using whenever the need arises. I didn't know about Brent Mason prior to this exposure. He's a guy I'm going to have to research out in depth. As much famous music as he's been a part of, it does not appear to have changed him at all.
