I absolutely LOVE Spiner, what a guy. His interviews are so fun. He's not "catty"", he's sarcastic and witty. He gets asked the same questions at every convention. I mean people who'll watch Brent Spiner interviews are going to be likely already be fans of Spiner and TNG, so we don't need to hear him answer the same boring questions. C'mon interviewers, come up with some unique freakin' questions! Also, do your research (clearly this interviewer did not, and thus he got ownedddd). Spiner is so silly and fun that he really could have made it as a successful comedian, and it's really fun to see him do interviews because he's far from boring! Oh, and is have to throw it out there and agree with the mass female population in this comment section, but Brent Spiner is a SEXY man, I mean, he's still got it.
I actually felt kinda sorry (but not sorry enough) for the interviewer, having to face the full force of Brent "Troll King" Spiner. I think Brent just took advantage of the ridiculously stupid questions.
Thanks for all the support guys, this interview was death for me. See I wasn't expecting his personality since I'd never met him before and it threw off my entire groove making me be off hilter and awkward for the entire interview. If I ever get an opportunity, I'll be better prepared with questions as well as knowing what to expect from his personality. I'll try to be a bit more entertaining for him.
Rookie interviewer I suppose, could have asked more inquisitive questions, but its a start to learn from experience. These are the kind of questions he gets all the time from fans, so I am sure it gets boring, but Mr.Spiner does well in spicing up the interview for the interviewer and even tries to teach him a few things XD.
Well I think he's sexy. He's got gorgeous eyes, a very sexy voice, I love his smile, his nose and the fact he makes me laugh. I'd take him over Brad Pitt any day! But attractiveness is vey subjective and we all have different tastes.
This interview is hilarious! FYI, at least a couple of other ST stars like to tell tall tales while giving interviews... Brent seems to be very particular about details and catches the interviewer's mistakes. He mocks himself, Will Smith, and the ST cast. It's so obvious, by his devilish smug smile.
Actually in Season 2, he gets called Data with the erronous pronounciation by Dr. Pulaski. Data corrects her saying something along the lines "Data (with the correct pronounciation) is my name, the other is not. Dr. Pulaski then comments with something like "if I didn't know better I'd say your emotions were hurt"...
"There is not one character who ever called me anything other than Day-ta." Untrue! The doctor (the one before Crusher) calls him Dah-ta, and he CORRECTS her: "Day-ta." "What?" "You called me Dah-ta." "What's the difference?" "One is my name. The other is not."
Hahaha! I love the Data impression he did and the guy didn't even notice, and when he said he didn't care for any of the episodes! And when he said he tries to avoid his co-stars, and when he said he's looking at himself on he screen and says he looks good. (Yes you do look good. You're one gorgeous man). In fact I love this whole interview! For everyone saying he's being obnoxious. Get a sense of humour people. It's obvious he's joking around with him.
I love Brent... He always gets the dumb interviewers who don't understand his wit and ask pointless questions . He rises above and makes them look dumb.
@FriendsofXan It's more like a decent interviewer that got caught off guard by his attitude and personality and it threw him off for the rest of the interview which made him forget his material.
In all of the interviews I've ever seen, Brent always plays a smart-alec, is over-confident, and tries hard to be amusing. I happen to totally dig his humor. I guess, not everybody recognizes it for what it is.
OH MY DEAR LORD!!! Who could send this... interviewer (kids are watching) to talk with such an ironic and witty beast like Brent Spiner. That's not an interview, that's a career and social suiside.
@yayoineko I've done a few hundred interviews, most of them quite good. The problem here is that he caught me by surprise with his off camera personality and playfulness and that threw me off which is my fault. So the rest of the interview he toyed with me as I played catch up. But you also have to understand that the same boring questions that he gets are my job to ask.
Smart + bored = Spiner in this interview. Another thing, how dare he be over 60 and look that good in a hoodie! ;) I'm in my 30's and I don't look that good in a hoodie! (rolls eyes in disgust)
@cynthiacher I hope not because this would give a very bad name to journalism. First he can't even pronounce the name of the person he is interviewing. Then he asks him how to pronounce the name of the character he is most famous for. How ignorant is that? It is insulting actually. Then he asks him to talk about "the Star Trek movies". What kind of question is this? He was completely incompetent. Other actors might have just walked away.
@SpanWolf Bless your heart, if you had been prepared, you would've had a great time with him. Brent's got a very dry and extremely offbeat personality, but trust me, he's not the jerk that a lot of people make him out to be. He was probably just having fun with you in his own way.
Okay I’m going to try to not make my comment as mean as it originally was. But….. REALLY? How could the interviewer not understand that Brent was joking? I guess that's what makes this interview gold though... It’s like an inside joke between Brent and everyone else watching the interview. I'm totally adding this to my favorites!
Yeah, poor kid was in over his head on this shoot.Brent just danced about and tossed him like a rag doll! But the interview went ok in the end. Not convinced Brent was serious about not caring for Star Trek, though.
@cynthiacher Whatever. The guy wasn't too polite either telling Brent that he was being difficult when he answered his question about Independence Day. What goes around comes around. Even if you are completely clueless you should know how to prepare for an interview and to learn the person's name who you are going to inteview. It actually might help.
I feel bad for the interviewer. He seems like an awkward newb and should probably not have been chosen to interview this man. I thought Spiner was just being himself and was pretty funny at times. Also.. who the hell doesn't know how to pronounce Data?
@cynthiacher Well John Billingsly was just as weird fondling my chest and strangling me throughout the interview, but we played off each other and had a great and entertaining interview.
@cynthiacher Yes I was the interviewer, well you see it is my job to make the interview work. If it is a hard person to interviewer I have to engage him even if he's been a jerk or difficult, I have to find a way to break through to do a good and entertaining interview for everyone.
I'm not going to lie, when he said "sliding down a rainbow with thousands of beautiful babies" I LOLled and collapsed onto the floor. From 6:40 onward is the best.
HA! What a hysterical interview. That guy had absolutely no idea how to handle Spiner's sense of humor. Of course, he also had some amazingly stupid questions for him.
