I have a feeling that Mike knew how frustrated Brent gets when asked about his role in Star Trek, so he researched some other things he's done and asked questions about those. It definitely helped keep Brent calm lol.
Fresh Hell is really good BTW great series, I love the way the web is giving established artists a chance to try things out and make their own marks on the world.
Mike does this on his own. I don't think he had professional training to do this. He's was originally James artist that ended up becoming his jack of all trades guy for cinemassacre.
I'm surprised he didn't mention Paul Lynde as an influence of any sort. There's definite Paul Lynde vibes in some of his performances, most notably when he's being Lore--including a PERFECT Paul Lynde style laugh.
Man anyone else choke up a little bit when he was talking about his show's premise. Getting back to where you once were. Seemed like something a lot of older actors go through at some point, and he's seem to make a show out of that emotion.
I was a big Laurel and Hardy fan when i was a kid. I remember on Saturday Mornings in the late 80's, i would wake up at 6 am (i loved my Saturday Morning Cartoons. It was a ritual!) get my bowl of sugared cereal and turn on the tv. From 6 am to 7 am before any of the cartoons started one of the channels would show an hour of Laurel and Hardy shorts. Hearing Brent say he was influenced by Stan Laurel, yeah. I can TOTALLY see that in his performances. Cool!
Brent Spiner is one of the funniest guys in TNG, his character data is such a polar opposite to who he really is, and yet he can portray that character and still have that charm about him, and the character.
Too bad that he tries to sell FRESH HELL so shamelessly. Hopefully that doesn't scare anyone away because after watching all the episodes, I find it surprisingly good and very funny.
Fresh Hell was surprisingly good, I watched the first couple seasons after this was posted on Cinemassacre a fair while back and it was amusing. Could've used a little more in the "everyone hates him" department though.
I only saw the 1st season.. I should watch the 2nd.. though from the tone of what I saw, I'm guessing that will never be disclosed. It's not the point of the show.
unbelievable that data = the french weirdo from dude where's my car. also at independence day i never recoginzed brent as the long-haired dude who got strangled by aliens.
