RIP to the Anvil. Here the Hart Foundation discuss how they both ended up in WWF after the sale of Stampede Wrestling. Bret's father Stu Hart was a legendary promoter, wrestler & trainer.
Later in Stu's career, Vince McMahon approached him with a deal to buy his local TV spots and use his venues. According to Bret Hart, Stu was thrilled with the deal but says that he never saw a nickle after the purchase was made.
From Stampede Wrestling came Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Davey Boy Smith, Dynamite Kid & others to the World Wrestling Federation.

Vince McMahon actually did this alot. Generally if he didn't pay the money up-front for something, the person or group was going to have to take him to court to get it. Oliver Luck of the XFL is one example of him doing it. If the person didn't have enough money to sue, McMahon would keep everything. If the person did have money to sue him, McMahon would usually settle the case for less than he actually owed.

@@TheSophisticatedSavage Oliver Luck was signed in 2018 to a $35 million dollar guaranteed contract by the XFL. He left a very senior position at the NCAA for the XFL. Part of the reason for the large contract was the risk in taking a job with a startup football league. When Covid happened, Vince McMahon shut down the XFL, fired Oliver Luck and refused to pay his contract. Luck sued and eventually negotiated a $24 million dollar settlement.

I thought vince didn't pay because the argreement was that stampede would cease. But Bruce went ahead and promoted under stampede and vince then refused to pay.

@@MrLawyer711I remember Jim cornette saying that during the 90s a lot of guys in the locker room would comment that "Vince was queer for Shawn", he said that was said in the heat of the moment but after everything that's come out it does make you wonder lol

I used to see Anvil riding his mountain bike around Calgary when he moved back here from Florida to take advantage of a house Stu basically gave him and Ellie. There was also a bar called Morgan's I saw him in at least three times. The funny thing is EVERY time I saw him cycling and in Morgan's he had the exact same cycling shirt on every time. Blue and red lycra or whatever. Used to go see him wrestle 40+ years ago weekly too. He was a great real-life and in-ring character. Bummed when he left us. RIP.

@@mr.x9566 supposedly why Vince stopped paying her was someone leaked the info to the WWE board of directors about what was going on. That was the big scandal a few years ago when Vince resigned. I don't think Janel emailed them about it. That means the higher ups in WWE knew what was going on. I think Triple H and Nick Khan knew something.

Given that Vince agreed to pay Grant 3 million dollars for her to stay silent forever but only paid her 1 million and stipped paying her the rest, now is dumbfounded that she's talking, it shouldn't be surprising that he didn't pay what he agreed to pay for Stampede

You think a verbal is as good as a written , yes a written contract is the best verbal can be hear say but , there was so many that got screwed over that Vince shouldve had to pay what he said , Think of the the talent Vince got from Stu . They would help the tag team division get big and Brett became one of the biggest star and best wrestler in wrestling. And Stu got got nothing then even though I think it was a work the screw job he did the same to Brett didn't pay him either, no honor so now we are suppose to take Vince at his word and the female is lying and he did nothing .

Verbal contracts are terrible and it’s best to get everything in writing, because people like Vince are trash and will try to weasel out of everything. Especially if there’s no tangible proof to make them do anything

So he signed over all rights and everything to Vince, got zero dollars in return and just walked away and never sued for breach of contract and then had his sons all go wrestle for him? Something doesnt add up there.

I speculate that in McMahon's mind giving Bret , Owen Jim, Davey Boy and Dynamite Kid jobs was the compensation enough to stiff Stu. It has been said that vince would look for the slightest mistake so that he could call off the deal. It's said that Bruce hart ran a spot show in Calgary and that Vince saw it as a breach and thus excused him from paying Stu the $750,000.00. So at that point Bret push was more important because he was actually getting paid. This business practice came back to haunt him when he stopped paying for the NDA with two million still owed and outstanding.

Again, I remember bret stating possibly in his book that Bruce messed up the deal as stampede was supposed to cease. But Bruce went behind everyone's back and promoted under stampede

1970s/80s in Manitoba we had AWA and Stampede, when WWF bought them out I tried, really, really hard, to enjoy the rebranding, I couldn't get past that time Macho Man and Hogan teamed up. It seemed to me Randy was more popular and Hulk was riding his wave, leeching off his popularity like a parasite, it kind of made me want to vomit a little bit. That was the last straw, I think what started my eventual loathing of WWF/E was the Ultimate Warrior, a no talent, 'roid raging, incoherent evolutionary throwback elevated to main card status. It was candy coated crap made for the Saturday morning crowd...matter of fact, there were Saturday morning WWF cartoons, a parody of a parody of itself. I still watch wrestling, just never WWE.
