It's so wild to hear a player of this caliber talking about guys that he idolizes, how great they are, how much better they are than him, etc. What a truly humble and enlightened individual Brett is. The first time I heard him I was like "holy crap, who is this guy?" Awesome player!

The first time I saw Brett was back in 1986, when he was John Farnham's guitarist. He played this frikkin awesome solo on Let Me Out. He was all rock shedding back then. That solo still amazes me.

Man what a solo that was! Just takes you to another dimension. Are there any other solos of that era from Brett you'd recommend - I really love that style..

The fact alone that Brett can conjure that tone from (essentially) a Tele puts him at 'legendary status'!! Such a humble guy, as well as a subtle, tasteful, harmonically astute player!

Simple little brain. This guy has blown my mind more than any other guitarist. Pretty damn humble.

Bret has been one of my favorite players for many years now, it goes without saying that his style of playing is just Other Worldly. This particular lead on this song are beyond the level of just explaining the lead. God bless any of you that have this kind of skill. With Mad Mad Respect.

Indeed Dan; Slam Bam has proved to be popular with many guitarists and it's been the most discussed piece by readers in Brett's first video series for Guitar Techniques magazine. Brett brings a hugely appealing lead approach to its funk groove brimming with syncopations, chromaticism, flowing lines and altered scales. Very unique and very interesting!

Couldn't agree more Phil. It has become evident to me that Brett is happy to give all he knows gratis to everyone on the basis that he feels he owes his skills to others. I cannot think of any other guitarist with such humility and understanding of what it's like to rely on others for their knowledge and then the challenge to adopt and develop and then adapt to their skills and eventually end up with a totally unique technique and talent as a guitarist. Steal, Copy or Imitate him he gives me the impression that you do so with his blessing. The guy is a unique treasure in that all he thinks of is passing on his knowledge as part of a wider legacy to the guitar playing world. God bless you Brett. You use simple language and demonstrations and I learn more from you than any of the other supposed virtuosos, whose "lessons/Tutorials"!! are clearly not concerned about anything other than self promotion .

I heard this guy on the compilation Guitar on the Edge trading leads with T.J. Helmerich. Can't remember the volume number. I love his tone. And of course the notes he plays are unique. Really beautiful. I also like the guitar he's using here! :D

You're talking about his live solo with Nelson in 1986, where he plays Ac/Dc then just tears the roof off the place with his jazz legato shredding. Most epic solo off all time in my opinion; tasteful shred.

I think its called 'Uluru' on the live Album... probably named after Uluru in Central Australia. The harmonic tapping part before the AC/DC riffs has made appearences at John Farnham concerts too... its on RU-vid and would be before the Nelson days

Scotty Anderson is kind of a beast. Holdsworth. What can one say? Gatton... tons of country players doing fancy hybrid picking. Brent Mason. Brett totally copped that hollow midrangy Holdsworth tone. So musical.
