Coming into the squad at the 11th hour to replace Anthony Minichiello, Manly fan-favourite Brett Stewart told the world he was ready to play at the highest level in a near faultless display for NSW in State of Origin 2.
He just wasn't as good as the other fullbacks of that era. There's a reason he only played 1 test match. He was behind Hunt and Slater, was nowhere near as good as those two.
@@avrahamgoyenstein5117 He was behind Slater (though when fully fit it was very, very close), but he was far better than Hunt. Injuries is what did him.
@@avrahamgoyenstein5117he was better than any fullback by the end of 2008. He became the face of the NRL but then the pre season rape case derailed his career. Then he tore his ACL beginning of 2009.
Should've played more than 8 Origins but injuries coupled with NSW picking undeserving players series after series robbed him of at least another 12 Origin appearances. Still can't believe Bellamy benched him in a Decider in favour of the ball hog "hero" Kurt Gidley.
@@timedison6687 possibly because it was around the time when he was outplaying Slater on a weekly basis & he was picked ahead of him at fullback for Aus in the 07 end of year Test
