Where do people get the idea that Rishi is a decent man? There's literally no evidence for or against.

For at least half a century the British establishment has been seen as basically honest. Bankers and MPs have destroyed that. Sunak was a banker and is an MP.

There's no point expecting leaders to seek to rejoin until the country has emphatically decided that's what it wants. Without an overwhelming rejoin mandate we'll just flip flop right out again, assuming the EU even allows us back in. I'd love to rejoin but I doubt it will happen in our lifetimes. Of the total number of spokespeople quoted in the articles, 36% were UK politicians, of whom 69% were Conservatives and just 14% Labour. The Times was relatively evenly balanced between the two positions, with a slight preponderance of pro-Leave articles. Do I detect a touch of belated regret here...?

I grew up near a covered bridge in rural Illinois. There was a town there once - the first town built in the county. They built the covered bridge hoping to attract the stagecoach, but only finished the bridge after the railroad came to the area and the stagecoach stopped running. The town is long gone, over a hundred years now, with nothing left but the bridge. Some decisions aren't an either/or choice. Some decisions are an invitation to disaster, and it seems that Brexit was one of these choices.

I can't believe people think Boris was still the best choice. He was thrown out after three years by his own party for breaking his own laws. The only person who can't admit he was wrong is this failure of an old man.

Sadly the British public is also culpable here, those who voted Leave. We had a referendum, in 2016. This seems to get forgotten. Stay in the EU or Leave. And nearly 17.5m (51.9 per cent) voted Leave.

We can really see the morality of the disaster crew that brought us Brexit.

Well that is so refreshing to hear Lord Rose saying what i have been saying to family and friends more or less since the original campaign for Brexit where there was so much dishonesty from pro Brexit politicians over the benefits of Brexit. I have been a life long conservative on the moderate side of the party. I was a staunch supporter of Margaret Thatcher and John Major, the current lot however since and including Boris Johnston I absolutely despise. I will not be voting conservative until the party has reformed and got rid of the dominance of the right wing. I am not sure who i will vote for. Keir Starmer seems a decent and capable man, but I do not trust the left wing of his party. I may not vote at all if I cannot identify a candidate that isn't a Brexiteer, extremist (left or /right) or a crank. Indeed in fifty years of voting, i have never felt so disenfranchised by the lot that present themselves.

As an American watching your election with great interest, I'm also surprised at how little Brexit is being discussed. Brexit was probably one of the most successful efforts enemies of UK have done. Even from across the pond I was astounded that enough people thought they could be like the Empire again by being the solitary island. Hubris is punishing.

We also haven't seen any coming together of Business bosses wanting to share HUGE profits with the workers who make it for them. A real worker should be able to afford to live wisely and save for treats and holidays. Business men still have those things but deny workers the benefits of trade.

As someone tuning in who is living 2,000 kilometers from Kiev where a war has been going on for exactly 2 years and 4 months tomorrow, what I think BREXIT has done for your country is wake up the sleeping giant Great Britain has been and put it back on its feet as an emerging superpower. There is no pain without gain, and countless British people have lost out terribly in spite of the gains in sovereignty in the UK going out of the EU where it was a respected and contributing partner, but what 8 years has done is put your country back as a military force able to handle its own fate and others at a time when the world needs a superpower that only the UK can provide. It's in your DNA, the military mindset of The United Kingdom is not only unique; it is second to none. You do not need all the kit in the world to be victorious on the battlefields of the 2020s and beyond; but what you do need is to have the mindset and the UK excels in this trait. I am not an expert and as an artist certainly not qualified to judge any geopolitical situation, but to me Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson is the architect of putting the UK back on the map so-to-speak in being the first world leader to openly come to the aid of Ukraine still in shock and fear of being overtaken and declaring unwavering military and economic and moral support. Britain has trained tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers along with NATO countries and its allies and the results are coming in with statistics showing how well the Ukrainians are doing in spite of the drip-feeding, disgraceful way the west has delivered crucial weapons needed to fight the world's second superpower. Someone said after Great Britain Brexited, "How are we going to re-negotiate over 700 trade deals?" That is when I was convinced that the UK made the right decision, because you have had to clean house and put your country in back in order and become a military power and a leader in a world that gets more dangerous by the minute. Lastly, what I believe Great Britain needs to consider putting into operation rapidly is a space command and its own space station which would be an excellent backup to the ISS and also have you covered with eyes in the sky and space fighters which will be needed sooner than later. Lastly, you can also go back in the EU again now that you are a world superpower and have had time to find yourself and re-establish and re-define your mission on earth. Slava United Kingdom, Slava Ukraini...

Even now the best boost to the economy would be to rejoin the customs union and allow small business to buy and sell from the massive market in our doorstep without friction. North Sea oil revenues made Britain look wealthy. Destroying our industry and relying almost solely on Financial Services to provide wealth via the discredited trickle-down economics was always going to be a challenge if and when the Black Swan of the GFC struck. Our gig economy is attracting scores of migrants to drive mini-cabs, delivering parcels and food but GDP per capita is falling . No Brexit and the rapid loss of European migrants only highlighted what a Cinderella economy we have. Overall migration is at its highest ever, with the population rising from 58m in 2000 to 68m in 2023 leading to ever increasing house prices and rents and local and national governments keen to squeeze tax payers despite real wage growth declining. Almost a perfect storm. As a country we have to swallow our pride and undo those policies we know have caused us harm but Brexit is out of our hands; perhaps EEA or Single Market Membership if they will have us. But also higher income tax, more council houses not only built but bought on the open market too to staunch rents. Plus a myriad of policies that have failed. All need to be reversed.

Brexit will likely be avoided in discussions much like Britain’s role in slavery is often ignored. Both topics bring too much embarrassment, making it easier to act as if they never happened. By staying silent, they cover their shame, avoiding the pain, guilt, and embarrassment associated with these events.

Brexit did not put Britain in crisis - politicians did! Deliberate obfuscation, deliberate backsliding, and failure to implement polices designed to overcome Brexit issues are the problems, not "Brexit". Blaming Brexit itself is a deliberate example of spin or as Putin would say "maskirovka".

They didn't actually listen to Corbyn's Labour Party policy platform, it was actually quite a moderate centrist platform. They are mixing up Corbyn's own personal platform for what he presented as leader. He very much presented the party platform as agreed. Say what you like about Corbyn he is a democrat and is capable of putting the coalition platform forward rather than usurping with his own.

Conservatives and Labour are worried about Reform because they will both lose out in the coming decades. Brixit hasn't been implemented and this has been planned. The Tories have set it up for Labour to take Britain back into the EU who are broken without the UK. Those who voted for Brexit will eventually migrate to Reform. Labour will bring massive tax rises and argue returning to the EU for trade will be the only way out of a negative economy that will be created by their tax plans with more of the UK plunging into poverty.
