I think what Jefferson meant by "all mean are created equal" was equality before the law. This is a notion that goes back to the Bible, and is what distinguishes Mosaic law from, say, the code of Hamurabi (where you can find formulations superficially similar to some in the Pentateuch, but in Hamurabi the social status of a person determined what benefit of law or otherwise a person was entitled to). Equality before the law does not mean that all men are symmetrically equal such that one may be substituted for another and no one would notice the difference!

David Starkey, supported the Leave campaign in 2016. He was seen as a prominent figure in thar campaign and his comments were often quoted in the media. Starkey actively participated on the Leave side, making appearances at their rallies and events. He spoke out against the "Project Fear" tactics used by Remainers and argued that Brexit would be a positive step for the UK. In consequence, I have no confidence in what he says now. Brexit promoted by him has been a total disaster for the UK. He gave his support to people like Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage. All this demonstrates that his judgment is not up to scratch. Tell him to go back in time and simply crawl into the corridors of power in the Tudor times and leave modern politics and economics to those who really understand how a country should operate in the real world of today.

When a thing gets to be absolutely unbearable the people can rise up and throw it off. That’s the finest asset we’ve got - the ballot box.” Still you attracted 70 or so fools to like your lie and that’s what it’s all about isn’t it. What are you? @bigbarry8343 And you repeat the remainiacs myth that the Referendum was meant to be advisory. Cameron categorically stated that the result would be honoured, although he fully expected it to be a win for remain. Further, no foreigner who is not a British citizen, and whether here for a short or long term, should have a vote in any election. Oh, and you talk of a harsh Brexit, are you bloody kidding. We are still tied to EU rules and regulations, while a part of our country is actually controlled by the Brussels mob. Brino not Brexit, which is what our cowardly, duplicitous, self-serving politicians gave us as the next best thing if they could not get the whole Referendum result overturned. Democracy is frivelous, populism is doomed to fail. The sooner people realise that elites OUGHT to rule, the sooner we can find elites worth taking over. Our current system incentivises the replacement of native and ethnic brits, this is why populism is flawed. Cant get the desired answer? Do it anyway while herding in in excess of a million a year in the past 4 years and multiple hundreds of thousands before that. Didnt win the next time? Continue to increase the pool of workers so much so, that we are all being paid nothing while we compete with the third world for skilled work and changing the outcome of elections in the future. The politicians care about 2 things. 1 obtaining power. 2 retaining power. Somewhere along the 10th position is "care about the public".
@acw7120

Dominic Cummings used the NHS in campaign posters to get them "onboard" his vote for the Brexit bus; I saw him accused of it at the enquiry. The man accusing him held up a poster;l if you saw it you can see exactly what is at play. Unless you do not notice things. Enough for it to be brought to light at the Enquiry. Cummings was asked if he could not see how this could be seen as misleading or "coercive". He denied what is plain obvious. The poster made it look like the NHS supported Brexit and the posters were ALL OVER THE PLACE. Do they not all act, grin and walk away, safe in the knowledge that they get off Scot free for misleading the public? Some talent with no consequences for their actions. Even with court trials or enquiries, they do what they hell they like when they like and shady or not, no one cares or upholds anything. Even people that talk about "Anti Brexit" people insult HALF THE COUNTRY OR MORE. Big mistake. Almost like they have bi polar personalities. They do not know or care they have been LIED TOO. they only need the employees of the NHS to WIN anyway - who cares what WE think? They are the UKs biggest employer? So yeah. SHADY DODGY and SLEAZY but are the UK not always bottom of the leader board when it comes to sleaze? The poster held up deliberately set out to mislead; as it was obviously misleading. The NHS is the UKs biggest employer so he used that to get votes. Shady. Why do they not win FAIRLY. What do you think the King will do when he finds out his government are making him look bad? Watch out for that INK PEN. Rumour has it, his secretary is so fast at typing that they call her the Octopus. She works 8 days a week. As well.

Poor sod. Europe has been a place of constant migration since the Neanderthals set foot here. The UK has had wave after wave of immigration for a couple of millennia, before that there was hardly anybody in these islands because the palaeolithic technology that existed after the Ice Age can't support large populations. This idea that the UK has some native population of sorts is silly, the same goes for Europe. Really old native populations of humans are found only in Africa (they are so old that there is more genetic diversity between neighbouring areas cut off by geographic accidents in Africa than between any Europeans) and in Australia, proof of this is that when Europeans have family with people from other ethnicities the children have more characteristics of the non European parents. The archetypal European is very recent and probably will become rarer not by virtue of any sinister replacement project but by nature of how humans like to move around and the truths in our genes.

In the halls of power, a tumultuous tale, Brexit unfolded, a ship set to sail. A nation divided, visions askew, A journey embarked, yet what did it accrue? Brexit, a chapter in the history book, A journey taken, but how did it look? David Starkey's voice, a call to the past, A plea for restoration, a constitutional cast. The hours spent in debates and disdain, A nation's focus, often in vain. Brexit, a quest for sovereignty, Yet, without restoration, what does it decree? Starkey's words echo through the mist, A constitutional call, a fervent twist. Beyond the borders of Brexit's domain, Restoration beckons, a refrain. A constitution reborn, principles aligned, In the corridors of power, a change defined. Brexit's time may be deemed a waste, Without restoration, a bitter taste. So let the pen rewrite the constitutional scroll, A vision for the future, a united goal. Brexit's echoes linger, lessons to learn, In the quest for restoration, let wisdom return. I have to say that this is extraordinarily shallow analysis. Britain used to win because of the presence of courage? Did it therefore lose its many lost wars because of a loss of courage? did courage desert them in the Anglo-American, Anglo-French and Anglo-Spanish wars of the 18th century? was it a lack of courage or an abundance of stupidity the lost the Suez campaign of the 20th century? Perhaps if you keep fighting people you will eventually lose a few and maybe a whole empire. I agree with him on one point, Parliament has had little power for probably a century or two. The power lies with the executive that can largely ignore parliament where the governing party will do the executive's bidding. David is right that Brexit was a waste of time, but I think he's wrong about the why, I think the problem during the 00s was austerity, savage cuts to historic public spending. This eroded people's freedoms by increasing inequality, reducing economic growth, and stagnating incomes. Brexit ironically was an attempt to pursue what David has suggested we need, it harked back to a time in history when the UK had less regulation, human rights and therefore people could do what they wanted. The reality was, the rich and powerful did what they wanted, the majority endured an incredibly unequal society, with little power to change things, and died early. One should be careful to evaluate our history without rose tinted spectacles. I too value brave cavalier individuals, but not those who want to drag us back to a time that was more unequal, more oppressive and miserable for the majority.

We're not free of it yet. What has actually occurred is BRINO, to use the well known abbreviation. The latest news about the EU is that Brussels is really pushing the boat out now, to ensure every Country ceded to the EU does as it's told, going forward, and any form of dissent will simply not be tolerated. This latter matter takes the form of removing an individual Countrys' power of veto, if Brussels does something said Country does not agree with. A huge, huge mistake on the part of the various Countries that supposedly voted for this measure. Must have been some massive financial 'sweeteners' getting passed around, when the vote on that was taking place ! Countries' 'Leaders' selling their Country and its citizens down the river without offering a referendum to the people, to see if said measures are actually what they want, rather than simply being what their leaders want. Where Britain is concerned, regardless of who wins the GE next year, this Country will be dragged, kicking and screaming, back into the EU, by either Cameron or Starmer. Undoubtedly since they took it rather badly when we stopped contributing to the central pot of money, once we're back in hock to them, what's the betting that the proportion of money we are then liable to pay said coffers will be much higher than before. In effect, we'll be paying more because of the years we 'missed' in the interim period. This time around, we too, will have no power of veto, like other EU Countries. The EU can then pretty much mandate any measures it sees fit, without having to worry about any potential backlash from any member states. In addition to this, there is to be a vote, if not already taken place, of ceding all matters medical, in an emergency, to the WHO, who can then mandate more poison jabs for the population of any (more than likely, all !), Country, without having to await the outcome of a vote of any individual Countrys' by its Government. Essentially then, all Governments will in fact just become place holders, with basically no power to Govern any more, going forward. If this does indeed take place, we, as taxpayers, will effectively be paying MPs in our Government for doing nothing. But they'll still take our money regardless. Need to get shot of Whitehall, House of Commons, House of Lords and the EU, WHO and UN. These people all bleed us dry, with their multiple layers of bureaucracy in every one of those organisations. It has to stop !

@Horizon344 No we aren't. Over 4,000 unnecessary EU laws have NOT been removed from OUR Constitution. JRM listed them & they should have been removed. The blob and Remoaners say " oh no we NEED this one" & keep them in the statute books. No-one challenges the EU blob that are the civil servants nor the Remoaners. 🙈

In my environment Freedom of Movement wrecked the UK low paid sector . UK citizens were parked by greedy employers who brought in cheap EU labour that help keep wages down. My niece and her partner struggled on 5 Zero hour contract jobs. Today both have full time stable secure jobs. So Brexit helped the low pay sector. I will leave you with this question "When was the last time you heard of someone who is on zero hour contracts" ? Employer are raising wages and conditions to keep their staff. So, at least some gained out of it
