Putting aside the conotations that come with "role players" not being good on their own merit (which is dismissive of the linebackers and safeties who are really good), I don't think it works because these guys are so versatile. They have to be versatile in order for them to do as many different things as they've done this year.
I picked up the Vikings defense off waivers 2 weeks ago because they were leading the league in sacks and 2nd in Takeaways. I already had San Frans Defense I just wanted them for the Bye and because they are Nasty. The Vikings can actually get better. Once thier back from their Bye next week ill just play the matchups. But with these 2 Defense's you could start either no matter the opponent.
Yes, and no. The problem is, with guys like Van Ginkel dropping into coverage, you got Breece and an OLB 1 on 1, and any RB pass takes a few seconds for the play to develop. If you blitz the safety, you don’t have time to quick throw the ball to Breece, without having 2 or 3 guys breaking free from the line and stopping him.
I agree with these guys. The jets needed to use motion more. Probably help them create match ups between lb and wr and out athlete them. The vikings are full of smart veteran players which can be fooled but most of the time won't be. Vikings do a ton of zone which they are getting away with since they have these smart veteran players. Offenses could try and force the defense in man coverage a d try and take advantage of that. Would like to see a team challenge the run defense. I know the 49ers tried until they got far enough down and switch to catch up mode. The packers tried but had to switch to catch up mode. I'm questioning that running D. Every game this year the vikings plan have been get a good lead in the first half and force the opposing teams to throw the ball and move away from the run.
