In a clip from the opening episode of Season 2 of Brian Johnson's A Life On The Road, Brian greets Dolly Parton at her complex in Nashville. The Highway To Heaven or the Highway To Hell?!
What makes you think they’re friends? This is a rehearsed scene, with written dialog. Friendly, respectful of each others’ art and talent, yes, but actual friends is nowhere in this discussion.
I've met Brian down here in Florida several times...he really is this cordial, friendly, engaging with EVERYONE. it is no surprise he is such a success, he's just a legit great down-to-earth guy.
A few years back, a buddy of mine met him in a Florida pub. Said he was super nice, and also told me the regular customers would greet him like Norm from Cheers, lol...
That's awesome. I met Angus, Malcolm, and Phil after a gig in New Jersey back in 2000. Got autographs and photos...very nice guys. Angus and Phil were pretty quiet but cordial. Malcolm was the most outgoing of the three and asked me how the band sounded. I was like, "Uhhh...great??" I was just shocked he was asking ME how THEY sounded. I thought that was the coolest, humblest thing. We saw Brian get on the bus, but he just waved to everyone. I read later that he's not a big fan of giving out autographs because they usually just end up on eBay, and I really can't blame him because some of those professional autograph seekers are horribly obnoxious.
@@keefriff99 People like that ruin it for everyone else. I've always had the feeling these guys are very down to Earth, and are genuinely nice guys. Phil may be the only exception. Could be he is a nice guy, but judging by his misadventures a few years ago, he's not quite as good natured as the rest of the boys, lol.
It really is hard not to be a fan of Dolly. Even if you're not a country music fan. She is the real deal. Talented as hell, great writer, singer, and player. And to top it off, a genuinely kind and generous person. A true rarity in the music industry. It's unfortunate, but they don't make em' like that anymore.
@@PsyphaX09 Meh, just a different style of music. But both her and her band are phenomenal live. Her cover of Stairway was pretty amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fw_Codf29Pw.html&ab_channel=CharmedHourHauntedSong25 I mean, it's tough to not like Dolly for her talent alone. The woman has written over 3000 songs, over 100 of them have charted, and over 25 have gone number one. On top of that, she plays 20 instruments, most of them VERY well. Just a sick talent through and through. Not to mention the woman having a heart of gold and being a very active philanthropist.
This is absolutely true. You either love music or you don't. If you're locked into just a single genre and can't appreciate anything else, then you aren't interested in music, you're interested in a certain lifestyle. True musicians are fans of music, all kinds, and take influences from everywhere.
the term American Icon gets thrown around pretty casually now - a - days but Dolly Parton truly exemplifies what that really means . brian is a natural at this
Yeah, they don't get better than Dolly. Super talented, beautiful, sharper than most, incredibly successful and more generous than the rest of us have even thought about being.
This is one of the oddest of meetings. Dolly is pure Country and Brian is pure Hard Rock and Metal but just goes to show that musicians can usually appreciate each others work, especially as they mature.
Brian was in a glam band before ACDC, pigeonholing into genres is infantile and most musicians over the age of 25 just appreciate talent. Also, Dolly can be metal AF in her persona lol
It's more recent than from when the video was posted but Elton John not only performing on a Metallica song, but also saying Nothing Else Matters is a gorgeous and wonderful song (which brought James Hetfield to the verge of tears) shows how true this statement is.
Both of them look incredible and especially for their age. Brian Johnson is one of if not the youngest looking (and sounding) 73 year old men I have ever seen and heard. ....and Dolly Parton is 75. That is freaking incredible. I know that she doesn't hide the fact that she has had surgery to stay ahead of the aging process. But you can still tell how old someone is, even if they have had facial work, in most cases. But she looks fantastic and especially when you acknowledge the fact that she is 75 freaking years old.
So beautiful to see to people from two different parts of the world and different music styles being able to enjoy each other. Brian is becoming one of my favorite rock stars. He is humble and NORMAL!!
Dolly Parton and others have said that Australians 🇦🇺 are so much like Americans 🇺🇸, Dolly said it’s like we’re cousins or brothers and sisters across the ocean 🌊!!!! Which if you think of the regions of the UK 🇬🇧 that most of us were sent out of both to Australia 🇦🇺 and American 🇺🇸 (colonies at the time), we are from the same stock/line of people!!!!! Just a joy of a interview and Dolly has said what a good time they had and how natural their conversation was even after the recording was over!!!!!
I love when she jokes about Highway to Heaven and Highway to Hell and he drops his shoulders and turns away like he knows he has been a bad boy as she gives him a playful little slap in the face. That's a golden moment.
Brian and Bon were fans of each other if you read on AC/DC's history. Brian worked very hard and has earned the love and respect from AC/DC fans around the world he so deserves.
Beautiful girl. She has retained a humble, gracious presence and is a feast for the eyes. So much songwriting/performing talent too. Thanks for a great interview of a legend!
I dont know whats more adorable, cat videos or Dolly and Brian together? How can you not fall instantly in love with either? They both make you feel like old friends, who you havent seen in years, but you always have fun together.
Just for the record, Dolly being a solo artist has sold 100 million albums. When you consider the fact AC/DC has sold 200 million themselves, it's like how much talent can you fit into one dressing room??
I am screaming at the screen. This IS the best show. I Love It!!!!!! Artist interviewers forever. Brian’s amazing. Dolllyyy!!! Hello Dolly. Still gorgeous. Wow.
It is incredible, isn't it? Dolly is 75 and Brian is 73. It is hard to believe. When most people think of people being in that age group, they think of people sitting in rocking chairs. But these two people are still just as active now as they were 40 years ago. It is very encouraging.
I love this!!! I'm a white girl from the south who hates country music. My second concert in 1979 when I was 14 was AC/DC. I'm a metal chick through and through. But I love Dolly. She's one of those people who you love no matter what genre of music you enjoy.
Brian, you weren't just meeting another successful music act. Buddy, you were in the presence of true greatness. That lady is more than just music. She's a lady that has given back in spades and is considered an Angel to many. She has used her success to bless the lives of many people. Dolly is a blessing and a role model for other celebrities. If you know what I mean.
Bloody amazing guy I absolutely adore Brian johnson I have seen this channel before life on the road on sky arts recorded it must have seen it about 22 times never get bored brian is great interviewer and very humble guy. He doesn't take life too seriously and everyone should listen to him what he says is true and should take a leaf out of his book. I really hope he lives to 100 I cant imagine him not being in acdc. He is the best and a walking living legend
What a sweet, down to earth, gentleman he is...Two of my absolute favorite artists!..The way he says :."Me dahlin'" I SO love his manly Scottish brogue! 🏴🇬🇧
All I saw of the 2021 Grammys was Bill Burr presenting the Latin music awards and f***ing up everyone's names and then joking how he's going to be cancelled for it. The rest of it... well, porn has better music.
You really need to watch the full episode. Brian, who is a legend in his own right, is nevertheless star-struck, but Dolly immediately opens up, clearly enjoys his company and just treats him like some boy she grew up with. It was wonderful to watch two absolute gods of their respective completely different genres getting on so well, and I like to think they have remained great friends.
Lovely to see the mutual respect. Even if Dolly Parton's music is not to your personal taste, you have absolutely GOT to respect the career and the body of work.
In these clips, Brian come off as that generous and gentle uncle that everyone loves, and you totally forget he's the lead singer of AC/DC. There are other Rock stars who are nice and humble off stage, but they are always "ON" when a camera is in them. With Brian, you realize he's just a normal guy and think to yourself "this is me mate, Brian" even if you've never met him
I remember watching this on TV. Probably the best year of my life. Kind of sad circumstance though. At least he is back with the band. Fingers crossed he can perform along with the rest of AC/DC soon. Despite this virus. One way or another I’m going to see them. I will wear five masks. But I’m going to see them I don’t give a damn what anyone says. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little girl living in the south. When I first heard black ice. Of course I knew them before black ice came out it’s just the one that sparked the love because I know that album holds a special place in my heart because that is the last one with Malcolm physically on it. I know he is on the other albums But he is not here physically obviously. That’s why it is such a special album.
@@ACDCguy96 Unfortunately I was a child when that tour was going on. My brother offered to take me but we couldn’t afford it at the time. A tornado had hit our house and we had to sell the tickets to get money to repair it. But I would love to have seen them in Columbia. South Carolina. A few years ago my house burnt down and now I am stuck in Southern Ohio. I don’t like winter weather but this is all I have. So I remember going to the wreckage of the house and I looked down where my room used to be and I see two CDs still intact. One was black in black the other one was black ice. So I saved them.
@@ACDCguy96 I know that Malcolm would want me to pursue my dream I know I did not talk about it in a music career honestly. Even though he didn’t know me. He would want me to be the best female rock guitarist I could ever be just like my dad would have. My dad wanted to be a guitar player. He was offered a record deal but unfortunately cancer took him last year. Ironically and sadly on Malcolm’s birthday.
@@YourFellowRNRSisterFan98 i saw them the first time back in 2010, i hade goosebumps for like 2.5h and it was malcoms last tour and he was amazing. quick storie why acdc is my fav band, my dad played thunderstruck whit the headphons on here belly wene i was still inside, and i got out and u know i cried and so on, my dad tryed to play thunderstruck again when i was crying and ges what i fel asleep and stop cry and from that day i love everything what acdc dose.
