Why can't we see sportsmanship like this nowadays? Brian London was a tough fighter and Nino Valdez was awesome in many directions! Brian fought the guys that other fighters avoided! Nino could have been the Heavyweight Champion in another time period!
Great post ! very interesting . Valdes was rated one of the top heavys at one stage in the 50's . Would love to see he's fight with Cockell . He cleaned up nearly all the British heavyweights back then.
Brian London fought all of the best of his era, but Sonny Liston. He lost and he won and never feared anyone. He also ended Johansson's career by knocking him down in the last round. London was pride of his working class background. After his loss against Ali he bought a 3rd class ticket home to Blackpool, instead of hiding as many of today's losers do because they cannot face people who're asking awkward questions. Brian London didn't mind.
It was another fight that he lost. He was a bad loser. His brother in the jacket jumped in and starting hitting people as did his dad who was jack london and had been a good heavy weight himself 20 years earlier.
@@DamageItYourself Good history! As a boy I remember watching London fight Floyd Patterson for the title. It was the first time I watched a Heavyweight title fight on TV.
Brian was definitely winning this fight and referee Jack Hart, gave Valdes too much latitude with his head. London was fighting someone that Henry Cooper avoided.
Castro didn't screw things up despite the fact that I was not a fan. What he did have to do was sort out the mess that corrupt Cuban leaders, allied to U.S abuse including the Mafia, had left Cuba in a terrible state that thankfully it survived and is now coming back from. Re Brian London. Cooper once described him as a bully boy. If you didn't step on Brian early he became more confident and could then give most opponents a hard fight, but if you hurt him early he tended to go into a shell and let the other guy dominate him.
Valdez would've been better if he hadn't given away his height advantage and used his jab more. He had a nice left there. Not a thunderous puncher and often not in the absolute pink. London was tough and not a bad looking fighter. No left hook to speak of.
apparently, he complained of blurred vision during this fight so retired .Perhaps to do with being knock out by Liston in the previous fight . Liston messed up leotis eyes .
