Great interview. BOD made us all very proud during his rugby career! Hope to see him commentating for many years to come! I was at the Northampton game in Cardiff and how we sang all the way back to London on the train that night! The funny thing is, the only time I met the smiling, friendly and engaging BOD was in a bar in Sandymount after a Leinster game and I stupidly said, you look a lot bigger on the Telly😅

I left the military a few years ago, took a couple of years adjusting to civvy Street, but for top sportsmen, it's not just the adjustment in life, the high suicide rate is likely due to the loss of dopamine hits from not competing at a high level.

Brian is very clever and was always going to be successful off the pitch which makes things a bit easier. Its tougher for players who don't quite have the same intellect and star power

The giants upon whose shoulders others stand must take satisfaction in and credit for showing the way to those others. BOD is one such giant of whom there are too few. Fare well Brian.

P.S. shocking to read the trolls dribble. Post sporting life is something many people find fascinating to read about especially from the perspective of one of the giants of the sport of Irish rugby 🏉

Might I be bold enough to suggest this chat, is revisited [ and reversed ] when the time comes [ when it surely must ] for Joe Molloy to hang up his microphone..?

What on earth is this about? Brian the multi millionaire felt a bit sad, had a few pints. It's hardly the Ukraine crisis. This is cringe worthy self absorbed drivel.

Hey Hugh J you don't understand how hard it is to have to fly all expenses paid to H cup matches and watch the game and then talk about them for 10 mins at half time. It's a rough gig.

Does he not realise that millions of people are struggling to pay the bills and he's playing the world's smallest violin just because he doesn't get to be an international rugby player forever?! 🙄

what does one have to do with the other?
@dwayneschick4929

That is not the topic of their discussion, nor is it relevant here. Hopefully more men watch this and realize that they can open up about their struggles and it IS ok to talk to people. Stoicism isn't about shutting people out; it helps when a prominent figure, especially one that is commonly recognized as being the pinnacle of mental fortitude like Brian, talks about mental health struggles openly and candidly. Suicide rates among men is a real problem that needs to be addressed, and pod casts like this absolutely and unequivocally help.

Have you considered the possibility that people will get comfort during this difficult time knowing that someone like him had mental health difficulties? It's refreshing for some to see that he is human.
