Great video. I must say that its a bit scary to watch. I have more respect for the mason than ever before. When you get up close, you realize that this is less of a tightly-engineered structure and more like a pile of rocks that is expertly fitted and adhered together by skilled craftsmen. I'll never walk by (or under) one of these old arches without thinking about the expertise of the guys that make them.
It goes to show how the hell did they build the railway tunnels under ground using millions and millions of bricks one continues arch it's mind blowing in Liverpool the train tunnel under the Mersey took 38 million bricks in it's construction when you think the tobbaco warehouse was 27 million bricks and that was the biggest brick building in the world brilliant work team
@jay puyenbroeck that's outstanding work, in a carpenter so my job would be to construct the arch formers for you. I understand just how much work involved in you building those arches and how complex it was. You should be very proud of your work! 👍🙂 And you managed to do it in that rubbish weather and wind that makes you just want to go sit at home. A true craftsman. 👍👍👍🙂
Thank a lot mate 🙏🏻, , much appreciated 😊 , yes the conditions didn’t make it easier lol and yes ... it’s a lot of work not everybody can notice this if they haven’t made it before , I also underestimated these arches 😁
Looks awesome bro! Crazy that y’all cut the joints then get another crew to repoint everything! Love how everyone does it different! Top work brother!! Keep grinding homie💯🧱🔥🍺🤙
Yeah it seems that they do that a lot in Belgium for some reason, sometimes with a completely different mortar. They don't do it in Great-Britain and my limited experience tells me you don't need it if you don't mess i up from the get-go...
Because in the UK we don't have any brick built arches? Like the entire London Underground rail network (the first in the world) was made of preformed plastic? Or the sewage system of London with all those miles of brickbuilt tunnels made possible by the British invention of portland cement. Yeah, we're just learning.
Yes a rose and a marshalltown I recently got thanks to some of my viewers , very happy with it 😁, just looked up bontool i didn’t know this brand , my whole life Ive been bricklaying with a Jung trowel out of a tub . 🙏🏼
@@JayKTS yeah Bon Tools have been around here in the states a while but everyone likes marshal town More because of the name but Bon tools have done me well great work by the way beautiful job on those old bricks Brother have a good day and keep on laying to the line brother 👊👍
Goeiemorgen Jay I'm a new subscriber from the UK. I'm not a Mason, in fact I work in an operatie theater. Love to watch the videos though. Keep up your good work. Succes 👍
Hello mate .. in Belgium we like to joint or point the brickwork afterwards in the desired style and color .. that’s why we take the mortar out .. cheers
hiya fellow maurer, reminds me of working in Germany back in early 1990'Ss ... we had Dutch pointing gangs come in afterward us to finish off. Full respect Jay for the work you do, keep the trade floushing, you're full of skill! p.s. what saw is that you're using?
Hello thanks mate . Dutch pointers in germany , did you work close to the Dutch border ? I know some places there . The saw I used is a dewalt steel chop saw with a concrete blade on it , works perfect 👌🏻
I noticed the second one drooping a bit was the muck a bit too wet or former or both ? But apart from that Excellent work thanks for sharing your work with us all.
The owner made the form .. he is also a bricklayer /roofer/ constructor and this is his own house we were building for him ..I told him about the drooping but he was fine with it .. cheers !
Beautiful job,can I ask why you didn’t build with the right colour mix from the start so as you wouldn’t have to go round and re point it.?seems like twice the work
Hello Steve this is how we work here , bigger jobs het raked out and pointed up by professional pointers , people can still think about what color or style the want for the joints , smaller jobs we do the pointing at the same time . Thanks 🙏🏻
Them arches look great love your trick whit the fake joint cut out of the brick and is that a steel chop saw whit a concrete blade on it will it cut the full lent of a brick
mark thanks ... that’s indeed a steel chop saw with a concrete blade , we use this a lot , cutting full length bricks are no problem I even cut blocks with it , I hardly use a cissle we almost cut our bricks always Thanks again 🙏🏻
@@JayKTS is it just an average chop saw with a concrete blade? Or a chop saw specifically designed for cutting bricks? What model and make is it Jay? Nice tool it is 👍👍
James there are models advertised as a bricksaw , but this one I have is just the average steel chop saw from de Dewalt nothing special not very expensive I guess around 300 euro or usd
They look really nice jay well done. What pattern Marshalltown trowel did you get. 19 is a Philadelphia trowel , 33 is a narrow London trowel and 34 is a wide London trowel. The number will be stamped into the blade .
ray haha yeah that’s the owner of the house making it himself , it looks just with a chainsaw 🙈 , I guess if it’s good for him it’s all good 😀 , thanks 🙏🏻
Yes the owner actually made the mold I told him it shoujd be rounded but he wanted it like that , this makes the arch weaker 😏 . This was around 24 manhrs I believe for the arches and a course on top ..🙏🏼
Wolf thanks friend , no haven’t use them yet except for some “air- bricklaying lol ,, but this week on a evening I sat in my sofa , holded it in my hand for an hour and just kept looking at it haha . It’s beautiful and I am extremely happy with it , will try it soon with the first good chance to work off a board , have something for you , will send it out next week
@@JayKTS the new one with the red handle is a good 1, i agree. But i have enough trowels, lol. I was working on a gable last week, wasn't much room for a muckboard, so i worked from the bucket and used yours. It's a bit heavy, but i can work with it.
@@JayKTS vind het persoonlijk een slechte keuze van de opdrachtgever, met een uitslag waren alle voegen hetzelfde geweest. En ik weet het het kost meer maar het oog wil ook wat.
I was wondering about your trowel. I guess it is for getting mud out of a bucket. I've always a trowel with a London or Philly heal. Always. always a Rose till, I guess they went out of business. They Marshal Town.
Yes that is what I told the owner , but he feels confident about it , although it’s not a complete arch in the middle , the form is long gone by now and the arch is still hanging in there though 😅
A day per arch , a day for cutting the bricks and running two or 3 courses over it I believe .. the owner of the house made the wooden form so I didn’t spend time on this 🙏🏼
It's got ridiculous the amount of sh*t you have to go through to set up a simple bit of scaf these days, the paper pushing pansies that make the rules have never been on a site in their lives.
