Does it have pipes built in to It and pea gravel behind to help with the ground water? And should it be engineering brick?

Stu, how do you keep moisture out from entering block from soil that keeps block moist. Eventually it then leaches into brick. Many times in cold places Ive seen hard fired brick faces crack and pop off. How do you prevent it from happening?
