Stu you prob wont get time to read this but I think you're awesome and I really hope you are successful with your training centre. My son is 2 yrs old and he says, "I'm a builder" all the time as he looks over my shoulder as I religiously watch your videos. Who knows eh, you might be teaching my son some day (as long as I can afford it! I'm only a decorator you know 😂😂) He is bloody good with his mega blocks!

Ah love this comment rob don’t worry mate all I’m doing with pricing is getting advice from experienced people and I will go with that. I’ve made mistakes pricing things before. This is training, I will get more out of producing great brickys than taking their money.

Finally I’ve seen a proper builder doing it right like we do down south and cutting the cavity out to continue it into the extension. Another guy from up your end I call tattoos man don’t bother. I’ve asked him why and how does he stop the damp from tracking across to the inside wall and he don’t reply. Far play stu you know what your doing. If we didn’t cut the cavity out down here in south in Newbury Berkshire building control would have it down and start again. 👌

Every time I watch a video like this I realize just how much I don’t know in life. There is just so much knowledge out there people have. Very interesting to see, now I’m starting to understand why houses can cost so much.

Really enjoying the videos lads, I did my college years ago and worked on site for a couple of years with a large gang, the top man though was employing keen young lads and paying them pittance, had a girlfriend at the time and needed money so walked away to go work on telehandler. I'm just getting back into private work now on the trowel for myself and am finding these videos very useful as I'm rusty with being off the trowel, keep them coming 👍

There’s not many tradesmen who’d show you there days work,this guy has nowt to hide. I’ll bet every tradesman,wether it be a bricklayer,carpenter,electrician,plumber or whatever,will tell you that there a real tradesman. It’s all about the job they finish what they started. It shows when someone takes pride in the work they do,no matter what job they do. I’d have confidence in hiring this guy,takes pride in his craft,is respectful to his customers and knows what he’s doing.As for the people who’ve thumbed this video down,I’ll get back to you (maybe).

@frankh4229
@frankh4229 4 года назад
In the summertime, bricks were hosed down before laying. Coring holes were left out on the Tray-Damp to allow the clearing of the cavity until the wall was one lift high, 5ft thereafter cavity battens were used which climbed with the wall until the next row of ties was reached when it was moved up and placed on the ties. This does not apply today as cavities have insulation installed and the mortar does not fall to the bottom of the cavity. Good videos and nice brickwork!

Stew watching your video and your the only one I’ve seen on here that does it correct and cut out the cavity. I looked at construction with Kieran and asked him why he doesn’t cut cavities put a tray over a RSJ on a single story extension and why no tray under copings on a parapit wall. Ten minutes later he disarmed the comments. Your a pleasure to watch a see it done properly 🙏👌👍

Was glad of this video this morning - did my first ever at-home (as opposed to the training course) bricklaying on Sat, putting down the first courses of my extension. Lije you, the mortar was going off at an insane rate - thought I'd done something wrong and ended up chucking more than I used (because I'm VERY slow!)

In Australia we are constantly working in 30 - 40 degrees C ( 80 - 100 F) in summer, so we start at 5.30 am and finish about 2.30 pm , also depending on the type of brick we are using we also wet them down plus the mortar is a lot wetter ( which takes some getting used to ) but it means you cant put down a long bed and you have to be quicker.We also have to point up every course with a marshalltown jointer but generally a piece of 20mm electrical pipe is used but you have to have full joints then a stiffish brush.You get a surprisingly good finish, though you wouldn't think so at first. I will also send you some pictures of a different type of profile which is a lot easier and less time consuming to set up and use. P.S - please do a twisted brick and a half pier. keep up the good work mate. Cheers.

Loving the videos. I've learned so much. Can i ask why you have used a 'cavity tray' aswell as the dpc as the foundation location? From what i understand of the regs they are only needed as openings in the wall such as doors, windows and air bricks. Did the foundation detail require it? Thanks!
