@thebosegames1912

Paul Lilly I cant speak for the UK folks, but here in Australia our lintels just have to be 300mm longer than the window. Eg: A 2400 lintel would be used for a 2100 window. Just install it with a 150 overlap on either side.

Good job. What's the main reason you get water running through the cavity, with enough volume that it starts to leak through?
@thetessellater9163
@thetessellater9163 4 года назад
In driving rain, the bricks will soak through, leading to water running down the inside face of the outer leaf - hence the cavity tray. The same reason to leave a small air gap cavity when installing insulation, but some modern insulation can cope without the gap, as its hydrophobic - doesn't wet.

2 questions. 1 what is that tool for removing mortar! 2. what does the bit of wood do?
@superiorbeing95
@superiorbeing95 4 года назад
The wood just holds up the triangle of bricks above the window, the rest of the walls load is already spread either side of the window, if it weren't the wood would give way quite quickly.
@pauldolton9118
@pauldolton9118 4 года назад
@@superiorbeing95 thank you. So the same as acros with a boy mate attachment. I didn't think the wood would be strong enough
@superiorbeing95
@superiorbeing95 4 года назад
@@pauldolton9118 The wood doesn't have to take all the weight of that triangle of bricks, some of the weight is transferred in tension to the bricks to the side and above so it just needs to help out a bit, there would be a percentage figure some boffin would know.
