thank you, this was very helpful :) I was both suprised and suspicious that the repair kit contained less parts than old components removed, but I followed your video (which showed the same repair kit I also bought) and everthing's fine so far!
Mineral oil may be scarce at an auto parts store because it went away with R-12 in 1994 but it is available in abundance at your local refrigeration supply house.
@@bricklinhh3481 I don't know where you're located, but you can go to any United Refrigeration branch or Baker Distributing. The company I work for bought several gallons from Grainger almost a year ago l, but they are usually a little pricey. I'm sure if you just search for "mineral refrigeration oil" on the web there would be several outlets for purchase.
We may have that eventually but right now each movie takes a lot of time to do and with nine Bricklins in the shop it's pretty difficult to just pop one out. Someday but not in the near future.
It's not the kind of mineral oil you buy at a store, it's mineral oil based refrigerant oil instead of synthetic refrigerant oil. It's a very high viscosity oil.
@@bricklinhh3481 I know exactly what kind of oil it is. It's naphthenic-based mineral refrigeration oil. The stuff typically packaged in quart bottles for "automotive" AC systems is 500-525 SUS (ISO 100), which was standard for GM R-12 compressors. T/CCI specifies a 300 SUS (ISO 68) oil for the 2xx series twin cylinder compressors. Most guys don't know that and just dump the 500 SUS oil in them. Fortunately, Yorks are EXTREMELY viscosity tolerant. In fact, the service manual even lists a 150 SUS (ISO 32) oil as an option, although I'm pretty sure that recommendation was intended for compressors running R-22 or R-502 and being used for low temp refrigeration. If you have an account at one of your local refrigeration supply outlets you can buy refrigeration oils by the gallon from them. Heck, you can even buy the oils by the 5 gallon pail or 55 gallon drum. For standard naphthenic mineral oils the most common brands are Suniso (distributed by Parker in the US) and Nu-Calgon (distributors of Calumet RO refrigeration oils). Both are directly interchangeable, Made in USA, and have the same OEM approvals. In the Suniso brand, the standard stocked oils are 3GS, 4GS, and 5GS, which are 150 SUS, 300 SUS, and 500 SUS oils, respectively. For Nu-Calgon the same oils are C-3s, C-4s, and C-5s respectively. Where I live the 3GS/C-3s is about $28/gallon, the 4GS/C-4s is $30/gal, and the 5GS/C-5s is $35/gal.
