Also, I did see the bride's shoe brush his back which you could see as his croup shook. True warning signs, right? Yep- runaway bride for sure.

You know what, I bet you can tell me all the things that went wrong here. In fact many people can if you read the comments. On top of that, there is a 10 minute video on youtube of some guy explaining what all went wrong. You know who can't read whats going on with a horse? Me. I don't like big animals and I personally dont have the want or need to learn to control them. I have great respect for those that have the skillset to do it (my wife is even an equestrian and owned a horse), but I am always nervous around them and therefore usually stay clear. I do not blame the horse, one bit. The handler/owner of the horse made promises to the bride that set her at ease right before getting on (that was obviously short lived) and I just happened to be there to get it on video. I was just the photographer, I didn't hire the horse, I had never met the owner before in my life and the entire conversation was had between the subject and the handler. What cracks me up is the fact that you took the time to write out the exact same thing that the other 300 comments are making fun of. Ok this is the first and only reply I will make on this video's comments. Thanks.

So, no, it's not because of some lousy ass comments, it's not cause of some guy on youtube. it's cause I grew up with horses and worked with them and bond with them and what not. I ain't making fun of you, that wasn't my intention at all. I did not call you names or anything that suggests me making fun of you, just the description comment hit me a bit, the "unpredictable" when clearly it's the humans fault. Don't take it so harsh, there's no room for that :) obviously the so called "trainer" is to blame here, we can all see "how much she knows" lol

Yes there is always the unpredictability factor with all living creatures but we need to prepare the best we can. and I like what you said about people not reading signs, obviously the bride has no clue and the handler should have seen that, she's out to make a buck so she did t care. some people here are saying the horse is spooky, I didn't get that, what I got is this horse hasn't had much work with bags and flying things on top and things touching flanks and rear

+Beck Styles No, she doesn't. I don't mind harmless banter. I just agreed with her to begin with because it seemed the easiest way to comment on this vid. I work with horses. I saw three areas of concern. Horses are usually trained to be mounted from the left. A few people commented on how the bride got on from the wrong-side of the horse. That's a minor issue, but can be an issue for some horses who expect consistency. There is no way to tell from this one video if it was a problem for this horse. The second problem was the dress was very frilly and the wind was blowing. There are two things horses are afraid of: things they can see and things they can't see. (old joke) It is always a good idea for a horse to get a good look at an outfit like that before mounting is attempted. I think the dress played a role, but the real issue I saw was the way the bride mounted the horse. The bride didn't mount him properly. I don't know if the mounting block was too low or non-existent (couldn't see through or around the dress) but that bride plopped right down on his back and spine. It's a beginner's mistake. You have to ease into the saddle. They didn't even show the bride how to hold the reins while getting on, so if the horse did take off she would have some control. I don't blame the bride. I wouldn't let anyone get on any horse of mine without some basic instructions.

Know anything about oldest forms of organised cavalry? Know anything about military? Know anything about % of right handed vs left handed humans around? Hence which side the sword dangled from? Any idea how many centuries military horsemanship (English nowadays) is older than western, vaquera or gineta? With all this info you have to be able to work something out, and I hope, cease to see the left side as THE side to get up from.

In this case, it is genuinely human stupidity. Most any horse that was not previously desensitized to a huge flowing dress like that would have reacted the same way...this would be very common knowledge among genuine knowledgeable horse people.

+Hugh “Paperbackrider” Martell Wasn't my decision Hugh. I was on the beach for a normal portrait shoot when riders just happen to come by which they struck up a conversation with. The only reason I have video at all was for a completely different RU-vid video that I never put together because this footage stood on it's own. I've shot plenty of weddings myself and with my own healthy fear of horses believe me when I say this isnt something I would do again. People say to never work with Animals or children in show biz but I happen to like kids. I think the saying should be Never work with animals or people who think they know how to work with animals. Yes. Yes it is. It's her fault. I've been dealing with horses for a while. 1st Rule: Never wear long clothes that go over the saddle! And if the horse is not trained well this happens.

I couldn't agree more. I know nothing about horses and I am fairly frightened by them so I have no interest really in learning. The horse owner gave a lot of information making it seem like it would be fine even after one of the other equestrians in the group said that the dress would spook the horse.I wasn't very happy with the way the horse owner (lady in the purple vest) handled the situation, but hey, you live and learn.

+Nat H That was not the reason it spooked, being mounted on the wrong side and the dress were to blame. Horses are fight or flight animals. If something spooks them they usually run from it. This horse or the bride were not ready for this photoshoot at all!!

***** Not really honestly, You can take beautiful pictures even without a flash. But still you're kinda right.. it's not the horses fault, but to be able to take a picture that's not even compared to be bomb proof. Police horses need to be trained against that and horses in military

The Perks Of Being An Equestrian there is no "wrong side" if you are referring to the stupid claim that you can only get on a horse from the left side. There are people who train their horses this, and that is what makes the horse spooky on the right side. You should be able to mount from both sides.

zerosecondsago If a horse was mounted from the left side all its life, and suddenly someone in a huge poofy dress was mounting them from the other side, it might have freaked him out. Overall it doesn't seem like it was a good situation.

This was a bridal portrait shoot. Not the day of her wedding. That's why there is no groom in sight. He actually saw the video on the day of their wedding.

Hayleigh Vaughn There is no such thing as the "wrong" side. Horses should be trained equally on both sides or you end up with problems. This is one of the biggest issues I get when I get rebrakes and problem hprses dropped at my door, one sided horses made by idiots.

Maybe where you live it's done differently and you have your own opinion, that's fine, but she also has her own opinion which you need to respect.

Stephanie Thompson Actually, there is a wrong side. It's complicated to explain, but I'll try to make it easy. The horse's brain is divided in two main parts: the right one and the left one; each part is connected with the opposite side of the horse's body. The right part (left side) always tries to think straight, while the left part (right side) doesn't even try to reason, it just want to escape from danger, even if everything is perfectly safe. If you get on the right side of the horse with a giant and noisy dress, the poor animal can't help but freak out. Forgive me if my english wasn't perfect.

I said that in my comment^^ the couldn't care less unless you don't let it get used to it.. I don't like how people focus more on the 'right' side instead of that it needs to be trained, that's all :)

+Aya vanHells you can tell she's never been on horse not only because she got on by the right side but how easily she fell off. I have a friend who's been riding for about a month and she's a skinny little thing. She can not only canter bareback but can easily hold on when her draft rears (he's green).
