It's too bad Holly opted not to try some of the other dresses. Perhaps one of the designs could have possibly been a perfect match. I think part of her pickiness was actually based on some other image not really related to her own body type.

To be fair, a wedding dress is a big deal and a lot of money to spend. I don't think most brides come in knowing exactly what they want (even if they think they do) because they've never had a wedding dress on their bodies before. There's no shame in going home to think about it, or visiting a different salon to see if they have any different options.

I kind of think she's not as confident as she says she is. The dress she liked so much didn't look like a wedding dress, it looked like a dress that you might wear to church on Easter or a date night. The second dress was the only one that really looked good on her, and I think the fact that it made her stand out and the center of attention was actually what turned her off from it. It was the only one that she indicated that it made her feel fat, when in fact it's the one that complemented her shape the best. There's some sort of mental or emotional baggage, if she chooses things based on what she's been told doesn't go well on fat people (i.e. the bright colors and other things she mentioned).

And, the dress she DID like the most, made her look the worst! I'm not sure she is ever going to find a dress that gives her that WOW feeling. If Jo & Al don't have it, she won't find it anywhere else in England. I think she doesn't realized she is as big as she is-which is good because it does give her confidence. The problem is White makes people look bigger-it just does. Maybe she would have liked a colored dress. That second dress I thought was the bomb but it's not my wedding!

I wonder if brides who need a dress to give them a wow moment have perhaps been sold this idea by tv programs. I do think that you should feel like you are comfortable, look your best, and that it makes you smile when you think about it. Something else that I learned is to have a picture taken because we look different in pictures than in mirrors. 😊 I made my dress and used a pattern that I had made before, fit well, looked good on me. And suited my taste and budget.

The more I look and listen to Holly, the more I like her. :) She is obviously very direct and confident and with (still vague) vision of how her dream dress should look like, as well as what she doesn't want in a dress. She is not rude nor offensive. Just direct and very straight forward. People, even us with the similar weight issues, tend to be much more forgiving and empathetic when we see someone who is lacking confidence. We tend to be much harsher towards people that doesn't seek our approval - there are very harsh comments here, some of us took Holly's self confidence and decisive attitude way too personally. I wonder why? Why people tend to expect certain behavior pattern from others and if it doesn't match their expectations, they might get triggered. Why we root for plus size brides who are battered and brought down and we are trying to do the same to one who isn't? Is that what's expected from plus size people - to 'know their place' and to behave accordingly'? Should only slim women be confident and have prerogative to like themselves? Holly has good intuition - she might want to explore the world of vintage, 1920s dresses, also known as Gatsby or Flapper style. She doesn't like bling, but vintage Art Deco sequins and beading are the classiest version of it in history of fashion, IMHO. And regardless how strange it might sound, that style of a dress - sheet with geometric beading that creates illusion of desired shape in upper body, with drop waist, or layered top with slight fit and flare skirt (just around her knees) might give her shape and classy drama she seeks and will suit lovely. Even her face and lovely hair would suit that period hair style and hair piece.

@AllynHin 9 месяцев назад
She should have tried on other dresses that she dismissed out of hand. How many times have we seen a bride know exactly what she wants, but she is persuaded to try on a different style and she falls in love with it? I think this had the potential to be one of those times. I was absolutely mortified when Jo took the scissors to that dress, but I trust she knows what she's doing. I think the dress with the drape on the back was lovely and was the only dress she tried on that didn't look like she was stuffed into a sausage casing.

Jo got pissed off and didn't enjoy the attitude that she started throwing the dresses into a pile and ruining a beautiful dress with aggressive scissors. Honestly, I can't blame her. I really wish she could have come in with a more open mind. Dress shopping is overwhelming as you just don’t wear that type of dress everyday- so your usual experience of clothes has to go out the window. I also had the feeling that she is confident because she doesn’t look at her body in a full length mirror like that very often. I think she felt quite exposed and it rocked her confidence in herself. I was watching it thinking she looked lovely in all the dresses because I could see her body properly when she walked in- I get the feeling that she was a little shocked by it. I hope she managed to find her perfect dress!

Love that Holly is confident and that no changing room therapy was needed, for a change. However, she needs to find the right silhouette for her. Details are easy to tweak, right cut is crucial. Ample apple shape, or body shape with weight carried in middle section is the most difficult to dress, so that clothes looks flattering . Holly is young person who doesn't have taste for corseted tops and wants column style/sheet look, of free flowing gown that will flatter her. Since she would require support and structure underneath lace or any top fabric, it would be the best for her to opt for bespoke dress. Something that will have excellent structured low corset, down to her hips, with lighter, flowy, but well executed over dress to fit her upper body and than to softly flare from above knees. That's how she'll get well fitted gown without corseted look. Straight flow of the skirt is not very flattering, she needs some flare to balance her upper body and the narrowest part of her figure visible - if that is not achievable by empire waist , than fit and flare around knees might do the trick.

I agree with you that it is indeed all about balance and finding the cut that will give the best illusion of elongating her body so she won’t look as Apple 🍎 shaped. I feel that a good fit and flare A-line style gown would be most flattering. I’m sorry Holly, but straight cut, sheath is just not the right silhouette for Apple shape. She needs a gown with more structure like a corseted satin gown. The corset could be hidden with either a satin jacket, or draped satin like what Jo and Al had done with the dress she said she liked. It would be nice to see new more glamorous gowns on the show like I described and long chapel length and cathedral length veils! 👰‍♀️

This bride should have Just let Jo and 7:32 Al do what they know how to do from the beginning.

She wants to look classic, a bit retro and not like ten pounds of sausage in a five pound bag! She wore a monochromatic jumpsuit to the appointment. That should be a clue. She wants to look mature and expensive.

Mostly agree - just not sure with a mature part. Jump suit gives her two things that she needs, regarding her height and body shape: continuous, uninterrupted vertical line (that takes care of her central part where she has the most width) and revealed the most narrow part of her body (her legs) diverting attention from the central zone and giving her shape. The silhouette of the dress needs to match her body lines. She needs soft fit and flare at the bottom that would emphasize the shape of her legs as the narrowest part of her body, balancing her upper part.

This is why, historically, women always had the dress made for their wedding

Considering what she wore to the appt. her choice of dress style was not surprising. I thought he second dress was very flattering. I admire her confidence, but I also think she truly sees only what she wants to see rather than what actually is. She likes a certain silhouette and doesn't see or doesn't care what it actually looks like on. For example, the outfit she wore to the appt: she seems to like the one-piece look with a skinny belt about the middle. The one piece is doable, but the skinny belt doesn't really work. In short, she likes a certain look and doesn't seem to care if it fits her body type or looks good on her. But as long as she is happy more power to her and I hope she finds that special dress and has a lovely wedding. She is a refreshing change from most of their brides who seem to hate the way they look but aren't able or willing to do something about it. I think they are beautiful, but they don't seem to think so yet don't do anything about it. I find this both sad and frustrating because I hate seeing people suffering in this much pain. Thank heavens for these two who help these brides see how truly beautiful they really are.

I don't think she is as happy with her body as she claims to be, she strikes me as someone who bullies her way through life with people even her Mum and friend seemed shocked a few times at her attitude

She started out open minded and then turned her nose up at each one. I would not have cut up a dress for her.

Her problem is. She has an image about herself in her head and in the mirror she sees her real self.

I thought that Jo was going to use the material to make a train!?! I think that would've cinched the deal. It would have made the bride feel like a "Royal"!

Too glam to give a damn"... better if she starts taking care of her health though. She is fussy af, at the same time her outfit suits her horribly.

Gosh. I am an outlier. They really aren't used to a client who isn't grateful. I saw exactly where the bride was coming from. The material was lovely but the dress was a sack. What she would have looked fantastic in is a mermaid dress with a lovely sweetheart neckline.

to bad she would not let Jo & Al put her in dresses they felt would flatter her, she just kept saying No No No No wouldn't even try them on - they do this for a living and she she actually needs to lose some of what she is calling "confidence" It's more of an "attitude" She really is not comfortable with her body. She took a plane to go try on dresses but refused to accept the help and expertise of the women who dress plus size women in wedding dresses for a living. And she is one of the larger girls I've see on the show - she would not let them do their job - not saying if she did she would have found a dress, but when you go to a special clothing store at least give the people who do this daily pull a few dresses they feel would fit your style, but she had too much of an attitude to do that, such a shame

Yes, everyone loves these ladies, but they only offered her the same old a line style dresses. They don’t have any other silhouette to show and honestly they old looked very similar. This bride doesn’t have a nice body but she should have the right to try on other styles.

The bride only looked good in the one she hated, unfortunately. I think she chooses things that are wrong for her shape on purpose as an act of defiance. The one that worked with her figure and made her look the best was the only one she felt fat in.

The problem i see is the neckline and also the chest part looks too boxie. Need to find something less crowded upthere and something flowy And light fabrics from the middle waist to the bottom. It will works to her body shape i guess

The dress they jerry-rigged for her is awfully similar to the dress she's wearing in those cut scene interviews. No wonder it didn't feel special. Also, really wished she would've tried on other shapes/styles even if there was something about them she didn't like, bc I think she could have pin-pointed a better direction for her dress hunt.

You’re right. The problem is that boutique catering to large women only offers the same a line dress silhouette that is more flattering to these body types but certainly this bride does not want that shape.

I know what it’s like being a fat woman shopping for a dress. There isn’t a dress in the world that will turn you into a swan .some aspect or other of your body will prevent you from loving the dress. Confidence not withstanding, throw out the hope of achieving the tear provoking perfection you’re looking for ,and settle for the satisfaction of looking really nice in a lovely dress.Where did the over the top reaction idea come from for heavens sake? Now everybody talks about ‘that feeling’ . Good grief it’s a dress ,not winning the lottery or winning Olympic Gold ! Ridiculous. Bridal shops invented ‘that feeling’ to force you into trying on increasingly pricy dresses . The brides are probably crying from complete confusion and shock at how they somehow ended up many thousands over budget. That woman looked marvellous in the dress she liked. I’m astonished she was so particular when we big lumps are generally elated when we can find a dress that actually fastens and allows us to breathe.
