My great-grandmother and her siblings used to go hide in the bushes across from the local Holy Roller church as entertainment. One night during a particularly rousing meeting, the doors flew open and a naked woman ran out with the congregation following her, trying to beat the devil out of her. The whole group landed on the ground right in front of the bushes where Great-Granny was hiding. She and her brothers were so horrified that they ran away and never went back.

Upon invitation from a friend, when I was 8, my 16 year old brother took me to a Pentecostal church service. Folks began shouting and babbling and a teenager dropped to the floor beside us and looked like he was having a seizure. I freaked out and ran out to our car. Of course my brother had to chase after me.. In the car, he composed himself and told me how grateful he was that I had "ran away!"

It's actually related to techniques of reaching "peak states" in forms of mysticism. It's really part of the brainwashing. I suggest reading Mercia Eliade, you can find his books on Library Genesis for free (and almost every other book) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-07cmMhQxjfg.html 😂 There is also a movie called September Dawn about the Mormon Mountain Meadows Massacre that is interesting, the Mormons slaughtered a caravan from the Ozarks because Christians in the Ozarks persecuted Mormons, Mormons were banned in the Ozarks until the late 1900s. Religions are bat shit crazy

Now as a 36 year old fully disabled combat veteran I am still the way we’re all born….an Atheist. It makes believers uncomfortable to acknowledge that FACT but it is a FACT nonetheless! Everyone should be free to believe or not believe whatever TF they want. Unfortunately that’s not the way the world works when you’re an Atheist. That however, is a conversation for another time and place I suppose. Fantastic and informative video as always sir!!

Thank you for your service. Luckily I live in CT and religion is pretty much kept to oneself. It doesn't matter what someone believes or doesn't believe. I've been to funerals for people with all kinds of different beliefs. In the end, everyone dies and we will never know what happens or doesn't happen until we die. I've watched very interesting documentaries on kids remembering past lives. I have no idea if it real or not, but it would be neat if it was real. But I don't spend much time thinking about it, since there is no way to prove or disprove the theory.

You still hear people mention "The Holly Rollers" every now and then. I like how you have the Corvallis courthouse. I go rock hunting along the river at Kiger Island. That part of tar a feathers, this story is a strange one. (Sadly it's not the only cult story in Oregon lol)
@mommy2libras
@mommy2libras 11 месяцев назад
The term "Holy Rollers" is still pretty widely used. It may have started with this group (though I wouldn't bet on it- they were far from the only group in history to practice their religion this way) but it's used to describe many groups that are still very active today. If you come to the deep south, we have a good number of religions/churches who still to this day get all cranked up in prayers, having services and revivals where people roll on the floor, fall down, run around, jump over stuff, speak in "tongues", etc. It's a crazy scene and still continues to this day. Pentecostals are pretty well known for this but there are a lot of others as well. Some old, some newer churches that just kind of practice however they want.

They're still kind of the same thing, just without the literal "rolling on the floor" part. At the end of the day, religion is a choice and anyone who chooses a religion that forces them to not talk to or even associate with family/loved ones- including their own children if they've done something the church think warrants it- has nothing to do with God and everything to do with following rules made up by man at some point. In the case of JW, I think they have a council that makes all of the decisions as to what to teach, what to practice, etc, but the fact that it's a group instead of an individual changes nothing.

RUN RUN RUN AWAY …. From all religion. You know Christianity in Jesus’s day was just as insane. Give up your name, leave your family if they don’t believe, dietary rules, give up your money , persecution complex. For any cult or continue throughout generations it must absorb new groups cultures , which Christianity did, and allow itself to be watered down to get mainstream followers. I think all religions have historically been used to control large groups of people. - In my opinion.

Of all the horrible things this is one that frightens me the most. The idea that one of my familiy members or friends could fall into the hands of a monster like this. Years ago (2017) a preacher in a church I attended in Kansas began making innappropriate overtures towards my wife. I did some research and found he had been fired from four previous churches for the same behavior. I was very sick at the time (I had undiagnosed stage 3 cancer, now Im on hospice stage 4) but I waited till my wife left for the XMas play at church. Then I followed. When I arrived I found that he was introducing my wife as his new special helper. His wife was livid, they did not see me. When they left the room and headed for his office I followed and stepped between them. I only said one thing to the man "If you say one word or make any movements at all I will kill you were you stand." The man went rigid. I waited for the chance to kill him. But he did not make a sound or move. I took my wife and left. She claims they never had an affair and I was overreacting as they were just friends. I later found out he had corned my 14 year old daughter in a room and she started yelling and he left. If I would have known that he would have been dead period. I found out in 2019 he had four women that each leased homes from him way out in the country. And if they didnt give him special services he would threaten them etc. These women were all single or widowed- just like my wife was essential very alone due to my illness. And they were financially stricken and he would use their fears and grooming techiniques to keep them hostage. I went back to that town in 2019 and found one of those women and helped her move back to her family in Florida. That church fired him after $12,000 vanished from the offering plate. This started out as a southern baptist church in 1964, he was hired as pastor in 2005 by the time they fired him in 2018 the church had rejected their charter, left the baptist church and started "pentecostal" practices much as what was described in this film. It was still a baptist church when I attended in 2015 by 2017 he had dropped all pretenses of orthodoxy and was having deacons make public confessions of their sins, then resign. In 2018 the week before he was finally fired- another church member pulled a gun on him in the church after he had made demands of the gun wielder's wife and after he had sold some of the gun wielder's property (audio and video equipment the man owned an d had loaned the church- worth about $7000). The gun wielder was the last baptist deacon who was left and was one of those who found out that false preacher had stolen $12000 from the offering. The false preacher of course blamed one of his women (a wife of another church member) for the left. No one knows exactly how much the false preacher actually stole over the years. Or how many women he abused. The police knew about him but it was very hard to get people to admit to being his victims. The other churches knew about him and they would warn people about him if asked. I to this day think I was wrong for not ending his life. People like him do not quit preying on the weak. They just move to a new area and start over. I suspect more men than me and that one deacon threatened him. This damaged my relationship with my wife. We are still together but things are different. If I had not been diagnosed with cancer I doubt our marriage would have continued. This event changed her, and when she saw I would kill to protect her it also frightened her. To this day I dont think she realizes how much danger she was in, and says it was an honor he liked her but that she would have never done anything. These monsters can get people to do things and feel things that you cannot put down on paper. If you had met this guy you would have thought he was a great guy, funny, charming, handsome, slightly nerdy, educated, smart- only later would you learn how dangerous he was. This was in a little town of 1500. The point of this is these kind of monsters are still here. And sadly when single women who needy and lonely they become prey for men like him. At the bible describes them "evil men eyes filled with lust but never able to quench it, who slip into weak women's homes and seduce them. These men are like brute beasts prepared for the slaughter." When I think of those days I get sick to my stomach- the feeling of watching your spouse being seduced away by a man you trusted as a spiritual leader and teacher makes me feel like my guts are melting into wax. No one ever talks about what is like for the families of the victims of these monsters.

The grounds look different but that Oregon State Hospital building in Salem is still standing and in use. The campus has expanded a great deal since the photo was taken. Just east of downtown on Center St. Ex FIL was in admin and played the orderly who took off Jack's boots before his shock treatment in Cuckoo's Nest. His mama was so tickled when hubby took her to see him on the big screen.

One of my favorite blue laws in Corvallis. Women are not allowed to have coffee after 7pm, lest she become contentious and difficult for their husbands to control. You also couldn’t wear lipstick or stockings

Incredible ! And some evangelicals call out the Taliban - It seems hypocrisy is hard to avoid no matter which religious beliefs one chooses to follow.

When you speak to god, it's called "prayer" When god speaks to you, it's called "paranoid schizophrenia" .....(Unless you're an evangelical mega-church pastor, then it's called "grift")

No, when God speaks to you it is your conscience and/or the Holy Spirit...I sure hope non Christians realize all these wacky cults have NOTHING to do with real Christianity. Read the Bible yourself to know the difference. Wackos follow a man (or woman). Christians follow God only. MARANATHA !!

My best friend and I in 10th grade were searching. Went almost everywhere and wound up at a very small tent-type revival, we thought. Snakes started being passed. I'm not afraid if snakes but I became terrified of the people around me. My friend stayed. I hitchhiked 130 miles home.

Interesting. Disturbing. My Great Grandparents lived in Corvallis for a while, i think it was when the _Holy Rollers_ were there. The Delks and/or The Christensens. They had moved from Drain, Oregon to Corvallis sometime in the early 1900s.

TIL where the term ‘holy rollers’ came from. What a sad story. I really like the visuals on this one.
@ambrr_lily
@ambrr_lily 2 года назад
Well, not really. The term predates this church. It was used before Edmund Creffield was even born. His church embraced the term more literally perhaps, lol, but that was not the origin.

I love this channel so much. I’ve been working my way through TisM and as much as I love it there are times my heart can’t handle the sadness and I need a break. I’m also autistic so I’m very sensitive to minor things like voices and pitch, sound, words…. Your voice is soothing and the stories progress in a way I don’t feel bored with them or overwhelmed. I also have a low key obsession with information as most Aspies do and I love these little factual interesting stories. I see and crochet to them for hours on end. Thank you.
