I lost my daughter August 4th, 2010. She would have turned 52 yesterday. For some reason I have always referred to her as my "Silver girl" and the line "I'm sailing right behind" is just perfect. I'm not young anymore and I can't wait to to see her again. I just love this song, it has so many meanings for so many people, especially for me. Sail on my Silver girl.

Thank u for commenting! I've never commented on anything before!! I just had to do it this time! One of my older brothers (I had 7!!) was playing the vynal, I had heard of them, but this song caught my attention, immediately! In 3 days I had it memorized!!! It still IS one of my favorites, that "the boxer" and the "59th street bridge" are the 3 that stick, the most! Again, thank u!!! I feel incredibly humble, now ...and will start commenting more often!! Sincerely, (and I truly mean this) my name is Raelyn, but friends call me Lynda! Bye for now ....later ....

You can have a great deal of fun going around your town if you buy a few rolls of Lincoln pennies and collect them by date you can find them back to almost 1959 Paradise walk through the stores in your town. You can offer people in the stores a coin from the year they're born and if there's any women or girls show them how they're going to be 20 different pioneering American women on the back of the newly redesigned George Washington quarters play when I give someone a birth year our anniversary coin call Mother smile seems to say that I just made a friend for life play I never knew a Lincoln penny could be so encouraging🎉

This was our wedding song. The last song played before my bride came down the aisle. Some people asked us why. I told them to really listen to the words. Though we only together about a year before our wedding. We had been been thru the crucible. First her parents. Then mine. We were told it wouldn’t last six months. Well three daughters and four grandchildren: today is the 38th anniversary of our six month marriage.

Too many try to sing this song as a power piece, but it's true power is in its subtlety. Art sings it almost like a prayer. And that's why it feels like a religious experience to hear it. It's quiet, personal, private, and exultant, so it becomes sacred and sublime.

Perfection on the part of Paul who wrote it, and perfection on the part of Artie who sung it. The best ever. No other song touch this one. Cathy's song is another, but then I could go on on over the music of these two. I adore them. My hope is that coming up to 80 now, these two will at the very least, speak to each other. March 2021.

I'll wager a nickel that Artie had listened to Frank's Jobim album where the Chairman also dialed down his God-given instrument in service to the song, and had that mindset front-and-center when he laid down those first two verses. After the Jobim sessions Sinatra was famously quoted "I've never sang that $^%)ing soft in my life!".

I’ve played this song to my young son who has been having to be a zoom chorister due to CoV19 and we both felt better after I was able to share this with him and it’s message is so hopeful and momentous! There were much darker songs during the Sound of Silence and Bookends era. This one was as Paul Simon put it “special” he has described it as not being there and then it was all just there “instantly” He knew it was a very special song even before he heard Art sing it for the first time. THIS is the message I keep playing in my head to give me hope in human compassion again. My dad played Simon & Garfunkel from their very first records. Today I have those 5 original records on CD and I play them pretty regularly to remind me who I am and how far we’ve come since 1969. This is the message of hope that translates this message better today than when it was written. Kudos to Paul Simon for his such amazing and prolific song writing skills and to Art who put his heart and soul into this.💞

Bridge Over Troubled Water is still the very best of Simon and Garfunkel... The voice, lyrics, and harmonic melody hymn of the piano from start to finish are so superb... The last verse is like taking off from an airplane... your heart is pounding faster as you climb up into the sky... what a Glorious ending song.

At least something of "Pure Beauty", came out of the '60's, 1969, to be exact. Just as Apollo 11, rode in, at the last second, like the Calvary, Simon and Garfunckle saved the "final buzzer" with, "Bridge over troubled Water," and saved the last year of the 1960's. This is one of those thought provoking songs that will always bring things, back from the past and put them into one's mind and heart. That is what Great lyrics placed with Great music will always do. Thank you Simon and Garfunckle, for giving me meaning, after my three years in Vietnam, 1967-1969.
