This is an out and back hike. We started the hike around 7:51AM and got to the bridge at around 9:56AM. The hike is ~5 miles to the bridge and follows the river the entire way. ~10 miles RT. There were a few stream crossings along the way, so our feet did get wet. There was some shade in the morning, but the sun came out after an hour or so. We hiked in the sun the entire time on the way back, and I'm guessing the temperature was in the high 70's. We left the bridge around 10:40AM and got back to the car around 12:58PM. We competed the hike on 3/26/16.
The bridge was constructed in the San Gabriel Mountains in 1936 to connect the San Gabriel Valley to Wrightwood. There was a massive flash flood in '38 which destroyed the road. The project was abandoned and all that remains is the bridge in the middle of nowhere. When it comes to man vs. nature, nature always wins.
