I have an American Barbell Mammoth power bar and love it. It’s my only power bar I have and bought it at the start of the pandemic when it was on sale. The bar is amazing and the knurling is passive yet has a grippy feeling to it.
Completely agree that there is something to the aesthetics of the equipment making you want to use it more. I've made some purchases (for more than I could have paid for a comparable product) just due to better aesthetics. I have a small collection of vintage York plates (with the machining marks) for just this reason.
Glad you brought out th eMammoth. I have the Grizzly. Love American Barbell bars. The knurling is kind of magical. Its easy on your hands, but still provides plenty of grip. You can do a ton of reps without tearing up your hands, but still maintain grip on heavy singles.
Fair play to you coop. After watching you for months and admiring the supreme gym equipment you have, I have finally decided to set up my own home gym instead of my regular commercial gym membership. I’m not rich just an 18 year old wanting to workout, so I worked for a while saved up and just purchased a few bits for the home gym. Couldn’t get a decent squat rack but I got one for the time being as everything is sold out where I live in lockdown. Any suggestions for beginner racks for when this blows over ? 400-900 dollar range ?
The Bar is incredibly nice, sadly mine came really damaged and I had to return it. I was sad to see it go, but BB really stood behind it and offered me a number of solutions. In the end I ended up returning it, but still regret it a bit. Great review Coop
Can't thank you enough, Coop. Amazing entertainment + knowledge. I workout more when I buy cool things. So I call it an investment in my health to buy cool things. I'm prettttty sure you agree.
Would love to see Bridge Fitness partner with Rogue so the Phoenix rack foldaway "system" could be used on the different lines of squat stands they have. I know Westside isn't an apples to apples comparison, but to pay them royalties for that system like Rogue used to for the reverse hyper...it would be cool to see.
So there is a local company where I live in Idaho ya'll should look into. They are called Bishop Barbell. They have a bunch of options for olympic and power bars and are super reasonable. They have a us made line and a cheaper foreign line. The us made olympic bar I got in red cerakote is super similar to rogues stuff and it was like 220$. Not sure if you can order from them yet but they make good affordable stuff and they had tons of stuff at the warehouse today. They also have bumpers that are really solid at like 60$ for a 45. I got a set today and the weight is dead on and the sleeves are a perfect for on the bar. Seriously good stuff from a very small company. Pretty sure they are actually outsourcing from a factory where a bunch of big companies have their stuff made and putting their branding on it, but the price is a bit cheaper than say REP and the quality is just as good if not better.
I have the Rouge Ohio power & deadlift bars and Bridge Built's work horse bar. Ohio I use for squats, deads, and bench. Work horse I use for everything else you'd need a bar for. It's a little cheaper, looks great, and is a great beater bar.
what a beauty. and yes looks matter to a certain degree, especially once things get expensive,as they tend to in sports. a bar is probably too inexpensive where aesthetics make the difference, but i think once you hit 4 figures most of us want things to look good. Yes; functionality before looks, but if you charge me 1500 euros for a set of plates i expect them to look amazing. that's just non negotiable at the price point many manufacturers are operating at.
Looked on the Bridge Built site and they have a squat rack and flat bench that have an innovative hitch pin locked folding mechanism. As space is at a premium for most people these should be on your list for review please.
Cool bar. T-grip pressing bars need another review IMO. They are important, many D1 teams use them and they have become affordable, Iron Company for example has one for $130 shipped which is a lot less than we paid
Coop, review the Omni Viking Power Bar. My gym just got some of these bars, and they have become more popular than the Rogue Ohio Power Bar with the serious lifters. I actually bought one, and it was $285 for the hard chrome. The knurl is unreal. The sharpest bar I've ever used. Has better specs then the OPB as well with a 2000 lb rating.
I'm a big fan of cerakote. I have the Rogue ohio power bar in SS and the deadlift bar in cerakote. If I had gotten the cerakote first I probably would've gotten both in cerakote. I love the SS, but cerakote has an amazing, almost dry feel to it.
Please review the Aussie Pro Runner. It is the most affordable curved treadmill I could find. It was dropped late last year and it can be used like a sled with magnetic resistance.
You said steel prices will go up 40%-45%. It would probably cost $558.60-$578.55 before Shipping and Tax later on or earlier during the year and will never go back down once the pandemic is over because "we would get used to the prices" by that time and there is little chance they would lower their prices to normal. Damn it all
The customer service at the BridgeBuilt is pretty bad in my experience (compared to Rogue and REP). I had some issue with the order (by the mistake made by the BriidgeBuilt) and the head of the customer service (named Bree) was VERY rude. I hope it does not happen to others. The bar looked great so I thought of buying it, but now I am glad that the order has been canceled. It only takes a few conversations to figure out how much the company cares/treats the customers.
It's really cool. However from a pure function perspective a couple bucks more and I'll take a stainless Ohio Power Bar. Now if they keep doing cool stuff I may have to give them a try because that bar is really cool.
Cool bar, but how does cerakote compare to Electroless Nickel plating? my kabuki bar is ENP coated and when it was new it was bronze looking but maybe i've gotten used to it,?Now that I look at it seems more bronzish compare to the Stainless sleeves on my rogue bar... I guess the cerakote is just more shiny?
Disagree on calling the knurl on the Mammoth "passive." When I think passive, I think just a shitty cut, like the "Games" bar from Synergee. The Mammoth is definitely a real grippy, non-aggressive cut.
@@TonyNovation I've never gripped sandpaper, but I have gripped different barbells I guess we need better descriptors for knurling, lol. Or at least more than just aggressive/passive
OK I’m 22 seconds in… Brother, if you keep mixing kabuki and rogue plates my obsessive compulsive disorder is going to go into overdrive! For goodness sake’s if you must, at least put them on symmetrically :-) 😆
@@GarageGymReviews you're an inspiration coop. I love all of your work. Very helpful and informative as always. Look forward to everything you produce.
I agree. If you're actually going to use the bar, at some point the bar is going to show wear and tear with that finish and look like crap. I honestly prefer bare/stainless steel. A well maintained bar with patina is far more interesting/appealing than some gaudy bronze bar.
Coop are you able to provide your discount code on the rogue echo bike for canadians on the rogue.ca canada site? please let me know so i can give you the affiliate commission I can’t get the code working for the canada site for Canadians. I can’t use the USA site because they can’t ship to Canadians covid rules etc
Bridge Built did an AMA on r/HomeGym yesterday and got called out on a long history of racism which they doubled down on, and proceeded to get dragged so hard they deleted all their posts. The Rogue OPB is a superior product that doesn't have jaundice a a lower price, and the American Barbell Mammoth is a vastly superior product at the same price, both also MIUSA and without the racism. Vote with your wallet.
I only own a Rogue Ohio Power bar and I've been using it for every lift in my home gym for the past 3 years. I don't understand this bar hoarding obsession.
