@@jonathan-6958 that’s a little different. 3k vs 1.5 million house. Especially when they’re probably wasting more than 3k a year on nonsense making 47k. 5:50 I'm gonna play devils advocate. WARNING!!! LONG EXPLANATION!!! You need to keep your sanity in the meantime while you are saving up for thermal. So if an Xbox One and a dozen games for it helps you unwind at the end of the day so that you can stay sane and continue to perform well at your job so that you can continue to earn money to afford thermal (and also save for retirement), then maybe buying that game console before thermal is still money well spent even if it delays you getting thermal for a year.

Im a simple person. I retired at 43 and my wife retired at 41 (both MilVets). We make enough to pay our bills, squirel away oh shit funds, do/buy some of the things we want, and help our kids when needed. I don't see myself as a failure because I don't have $3K sittin around and not going to dig into the oh shit funds for another optic. I have a rifle mounted day/night (IR) and a rifle mounted thermal. I'm new to handheld/helmet mounted optics. I'll save my lunch money, maybe think about giving up Copenhagen, do a ton of research, and make a purchase in the fall. It'd be sweet if that new RIX thermal was rifle mountable.

One practical use of thermal is to shore up your weatherproofing of your home, shop, garage, etc. You can more easily detect hidden water leaks and where wind is getting through insulation, etc. my home inspector used thermal as a part of doing his report. Why not have that as a homeowner?

NV and thermal can be resold for pretty much the same as you paid for it especially if you keep it in good shape. It will also still be valuable if our dollar crashes, probably even more valuable.

20:42 Battery life definitely depends upon usage. For example, I have a smartwatch which I've set to be tracking sleep from 00:01 to 23:59, which means that all day, it is in 'night mode', and I have the brightness set at 50%. From full charge 6 days ago, the battery is still at 92%... That's effectively a 3-4 week battery life; but with heavier use, full notifications, screen always on, etc, that same battery may only last a few days... I think batteries are very much a case of 'your milage may vary', depending upon usage... 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hah. People are dumb. I’m a fireman. Ethan knows me. We spoke at length about thermals. We use them like crazy in the FD. It actually freaks me out sometimes inside home with glass picture frames in the wall because guess what? Glass reflects heat. So I can see myself in the reflection. Hence the freaking out sometimes in an active search during a fire. Haha. Glass. Cracks me up. The only consistent way to defeat thermal is to ensure there’s no contrast of temperature. Good luck with that in the long term.

@@TATargets I am talking range theatrics vs real details to be more clear. I don't mind the entertainment part and cool guy stuff as long as there is real information being distributed that is valuable and that is why I like what you're putting out. It's well ballanced. I was in Afghanistan in the korengal. Used thermals as. 240 gunner and did a lot of movement at night to avoid being spotted. Back then my gun team was attached to sniper squads. We did 3 man gun team and 3 man sniper team. Then get back and they would send me back out with my platoon squads. So I have some real life experince with night fighting. But I can say that we used the thermals mostly to clear mountains we were hiking to and we got some of the first fusion scopes avalable. Though at the time I preferred blk hot, white hot on a pas 13. I have nvgs, the Jerry CE5, thermals. It is a far cry today vs back then. It was more rudimentary, but this stuff in conflict helps you move from point a to point b which is just as, if not more complicated than a fight. Navigating the gear at night under stress is when you gain a more gross interpretation of the capabilities and limitations. As far as engagments go with it it boils down to who spot who first and who can balance fire superiority and accuarcy the best. All happens fast and under nods once I had a beat I rarely used the laser, just used the tracers. Same concept applies to all the cqb stuff we see on youtube and classes. They teach just enough for you to get fucked up. All inside the building, but not what you need to know to get to or approach a structure. Anyway that's all I got. Thank you and God Bless, Hail Christ.

9:28 This, is why it's all larping: At what point, do people turn round and say ''You've crossed the line; this far and no further!'' and then *back that up* with direct action? The year is 2024, and since 2020, the world has been a waking nightmare, and yet no one in America (or most countries around the world) has gone and introduced a politician to Norma Magnum... (only one guy in Japan, with a home-made pipe-gun, had the cojones to do something) All the time this knowledge is cultivated, these skills honed, but with *zero application* as the second amendment outlines, and as the oath of allegiance compels, it's all just larping. In America, you *have* the tools to remove tyrants from power, but zero will to actually do so. As someone who grew up being told about the American revolution, having that 'pioneer spirit' ingrained into me, and grew up loving America, to see what it now is, and lacking the means to do anything about it myself, absolutely breaks my heart 😞😞😞😞🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

You barely address the run time of Thermals vs Nightvision. Thermals are small computers/cameras where the most widely available NV are analog. The Arkayne STX advertises 10 hours battery life with an 18650. A PVS14 will run up to 50 hours with the equivalent mAh in batteries. It's a bit of a cop out to say "we have quick change now" and so on, for the same amount of stored energy you get more NV, that can definitely matter. I didn't catch if you touched on reflex optics, you cannot shoot reflex with thermals. You can use a thermal scope which can be very effective at sniping or spotting targets but you won't find a purely thermal solution to CQB unlike nightvision which has both lasers and reflex optics.
@TATargets
@TATargets 6 месяцев назад
Because the run time is such a minuscule point. But let's address it: Flip it to standby mode. Turn it off. Change the batteries when needed. Did you miss the part where the thermal is BRIDGED to an analog NV unit? That's a critical piece to remember here. We are advocating for both. But prioritize your implementation of thermal, because that is the force multiplier. Not night vision.
@FinalLugiaGuardian
@FinalLugiaGuardian 6 месяцев назад
@TATargets Anlog NV is better for within a more urban environment. Thermal dominates in the rural areas. NV also helps you move in said dark rural area. Thermal helps you make that single nighttime can't afford to fail long distance shot in said rural area. Ideally you have both NV and thermal, but, if you live in an urban environment, I'd say prioritize NV first. If you live in a more suburban area, thermal wins (and even more so in the country side).
@aries144
@aries144 6 месяцев назад
Look into a COTI that clips onto your NV for CQB. The Chinese-made Jerry C is excellent. With that, you can absolutely use a reflex to shoot at a heat source, since the thermal device is above or off to the side of your optic, projecting the thermal image into your NV.
